      The state of affairs in Kenya right now is pathetic! The government has really failed people. I am a health worker working in one of the slums , and the challenges that slum inhabitants go through,from waste segregation to lack of quality and accessible healthcare , it pains..

    I am a product of the dumpsite directly and indirectly, my mother worked here for so many years for me and asked me to study hard. Right now i have not climbed that ladder to where i want to be but am still here trying to make a difference in little ways that i can.
    This story is a reflection of so many of us who have been living around the dumpsite for a very long time. Good job.

      Very generous of you. However, the truth is that government schools are free of charge. I would argue that just the hype of living in a city that is keeping this family in such a situation.

      Tuition is free but there are always items that will be charged per term but not alot. I think the problem in this case is the mother isn't working. So even if he gets to school how will they eat and pay rent.

    Primary education is free here in Kenya, but since they are living in the outskirts of Nairobi, they have to pay some good amount of money to enroll in a public school that's why he isn't in school.
    To add on, secondary education is subsidised but such a family can't afford to send the kid to school.
    Corruption is high and s fear for the boys life and his mother as the cartels would punish him for granting that interview.
    Please, someone should help the boy.

    Its really so sad to watch such happenings to some people in this world. God Bless all these unfortunate humans. I just really hope especially the children will grow up and be better people.

    Thanks for this documentary. I live in assisted living and all the help is from Kenya or Uganda. I know three Kenyans from Nairobi and this one lady is from the slum. You can tell. I grew up in Los Angeles and all slums are the same pretty much.

    Richie needs to be in a boarding school so he can concentrate on his education. I pray he gets to go to school. The mum needs help to get healthy. Food and rent till she regains her strength to eventually get a job.
    This story broke my heart. Every mother wants the best for their child.

    This is merely a perpetual vicious cycle when schools are established to providing rags to riches opportunities but poor guys can't go to school .
    The poor is deemed to be poorer and the rich is to flourish.

    Education might be free but he needs uniform, books, a meal after school. You just can't go to school come home sleep on empty stomach. There's more to school than just free classes

    75 shillings for a full day of work?where is humanity here?I cry watching this boy struggling to survive life at a young age..I can feel the pain,the hunger,the tiredness but he is showing full strenght because he doesnt have any choice..My heart is broken..How can life be cruel to kids like him,he shouldnt be experiencing this..While rich people spend thier money for drugs and unuseful things here is this people,the kids working hard to earn small amount to survive in thier daily life 💔💔💔

      I hope the crew was able to help him out for his part in speaking out. I'm sure he has put himself and his family in danger by doing so. The least the crew can do is provide him with some financial help for doing so!
