Most of the food gets wasted before it's even sold. Stores throw away perfectly good food everyday because it's 'expired'. My heart is felt when he asked the wealthy to bring unfinished food scrap to the poor instead of tossing them in the bin. The sad reality is wealthy people love their time just as everyone else in the world and it could be extremely time consuming for them almost as if it became a laborious job like these scavengers. There are good hearted wealthy people, but extremely rare to hear about. As most people do in their daily jobs and activities, they don’t think much about anyone else that isn’t connected or related to their activities or job and just continue on with their own lives. Trying to make a living. I pray and wish luck and god’s watchful eyes over everyone doing jobs that risk their lives.
the sad reality is not that the wealthy people are like this, they are still a minority. Its the middle class like you who is sad if you look at it. We throw more stuff away then all the rich combine. Look into one own bosom before you preach against the rich i would say. Many of us are guilty, has nothing to do with being wealthy or rich.
If I could donate to these people directly somehow and know they received it. I totally would do it. Puts things in perspective and helps me realize how good I actually have it in life. Very fortunate.
That wouldn't be too hard nowadays would it. Just have to have someone videotape it and document the peoples names and info about who receives donations.
Sad truth of this is that people who give with a big heart dont realise that corporate greed is still there. If you give £/$100 only less than 0.01 goes to that country, and the leaders get it. I'm glad I have no children. Thats a sad statement.
I worry about people who have to live like this. I know I considered myself poor and definitely can share horrific stories but I never had to eat trash leftovers My kids are better off now then I'm their earlier growing years. They used to claim they were poor and i would always remind them of my upbringing I would also say, i appreciate what I had back then anyway. As much as it sucked, there is always someone else who is or could be at a lower station in life then you. Which is why I totally understand what the father said by wanting his kids to be better off than he was. It might not be much but I'm going to kick and claw my way up and i hope they do. So their children can benefit from previous generations. I take pride in holding that as a goal for my family.
I live in Australia and I'm a bit of a whinger to be honest ..but when I watch shows like this and see how happy this 1st man is with his family just shows me how lucky I am and I should be more grateful for where I am .. hopefully one day I can be just as happy as this man thank you!
I admire really these guys. They demonstrate the full extent of human tennacity and ingenuity, and although I agree that it is pretty awful that they end up living like this, the fact that so many seem to survive, actually makes me feel slightly more optimistic about our chances of surviving, as a species, when we are now faced with so many challenges of our own making. It is a shame they can't catch that hazardous methane and use it to power electricity generators. Being able to learn from what these guys have learned to do, and apply it to useful things like power generation is one way we could start to reduce the damage and wastefulness that our previous easy throw away society has caused.
There are plants that do exactly that, including some in the US. The better option is to prevent the methane generation entirely of course, but in the meantime it can be done.
They should use that ingenuity to make something that sustains itself instead of wasting energy on something that only gets them by for the current day.

This is heartbreaking, and absolutely necessary to show to the world.
They do it to themselves.
This is wonderful, they get a job they enjoy and they play an important role.
Absolutely show it to their government that set up rules of that country. Their government allows it because it makes them money. The people on the top are getting that side money to look away.
Other countries telling this government how they should run their land and their people. .....history
I wish their government love their people but like everyone else they don't care about poor.
I got homeless people my state. They won't help find affordable housing because my state is getting rich with high rents collecting taxes.
Why is it "necessary to show to the world?" It's a result of their government's policies. You expect the US and NATO to be a white knight and intervene in meaningless squabbles abroad that don't solve anything? Sorry bub, you guys are on your own. But in reality most of it is still good to eat for days and sometimes even weeks. Also distributors are to blame for this aswell. Many fruits and vegetables with small imperfections get thrown away before they even reach the stores.

I've become the leftover police and now hunt for things they're gonna throw out so I can collect it and give it to the homeless. Its freaking ridiculous what people are willing to throw out when others are starving.

You can throw but put them in tightly seal containers and multiple plastic. Most of the times, we rarely meet poor people like since they lived outside of the city
You should see McDonald's. When I worked there when I was young, we had to throw away full bucket of french fires every 30 to 45 minutes. These are those big paint buckets. McDonald's is the most wasteful fastfood restaurant I've ever seen.
I went to Brazil for half a year. I saw a man throwing not even half a cigarette on the streets. 5 people swarmed it, and the lucky man got to keep it. He then had enough tobacco to make his own cigarette.

I'll never understand how it's legal to throw food away for example: I use to work at a banana and potato plantation and if the banana or potato doesn't meet the specific size criteria it gets thrown away. And when I mean thrown away, it gets crushed and shredded through this machine. Such a waste of food that could be given out to the poor. Nobody on this earth should be eating out of the dumpster.

Sad truth of this is that people who give with a big heart dont realise that corporate greed is still there. If you give £/$100 only less than 0.01 goes to that country, and the leaders get it. I'm glad I have no children. Thats a sad statement.

I would also say, i appreciate what I had back then anyway.

I admire really these guys.
