Great video! Just picked up the blue FXD and this was the inspiration I needed. Well done as always my man.
Awesome! Thank you! And congrats on the NWA!
Thank you so much for this video. I have the blue FXD and really like the OEM fabric strap, but I’ve been trying to find a good alternative single pass fabric option to switch things up a bit. You gave me several. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thx for watching.
Exact same boat as you, lots of new options to consider. Years ago I tried the Erika's on another watch and can totally relate to the fiddly clasp
Blue with the Nick hook strap is the absolute winner.
My fav of the bunch too
Thank you! 👋
I own 2 NMDs for my FXD and they are amazing.
Honorable mention for the Watch Steward straps too
Bezel for timing pizzas in the oven: now that’s a honest take on functionality! Now I have a need and an excuse for a diver. Thank you
you are welcome ! ;) *now hit the subscribe button or it won't work tho ...*
Let’s gooo, love your uploads buddy 👍🏼
Thanks for the visit mate
Excellent video, Salmon. Thank you for providing these options. For me, my favorites for my FXD MN are the Anti-Watch Watch Club black leather strap, a blue and white elastic NATO from Aliexpress, and the OEM straps. That said, I cannot imagine conducting any military operation with my watch secured to my wrist only by Velcro. It’s madness. I wouldn’t trust the Velcro to hold to my wrist during a game of soccer.
Yeah I left out the leather because I’m not a diver on leather type. But definetly another option
Very true about the Velcro 😅 in terms
Of never coming off I’d trust the rigger straps most.
Great video.
I love the strap options for these lovely watches.
One day I will own one of these bad boys 🤞
Hope that will be soon for you mate
Love my blue. Great video. Thank you.
thx for checking in !
Great video! Per your recommendation, I’ll give the Nick Mankey a try on my MN21. Cheers 🍻
Awesome. Thx ! Let me know your thoughts on them when you get it
@@BowlOfSalmon Tom, I was just on the website and found many good options. Did you review the Pro or Classic series strap on your MN?
The lead time for his straps is kinda nuts!
I recently got the black FXD and have had a tough time taking it off my wrist. Love everything about it. I have your same wrist size and wish they made it smaller but this watch doesn’t wear too big on the wrist.
Congrats. I feel the same tbh. Love it on the wrist. The fxd is soooo comfy. Not too big. But if I’m honest the p39 is better for size. Actually ideally. I’d want 40,5
Thanks! Great suggestions
Glad you like them!
I own both the Blue FXD MN and the Black FXD and equally enjoy both. They are the first watch where I have owned more than one variant and do not feel redundant. In terms of straps, I like Erika’s Original’s the most as I get the best fit on my 6.5 inch wrist and find them extremely comfortable. I know they are not inexpensive, but I value the quality and comfort on the wrist.
Thanks for the excellent video. Is there a separate video comparing the two versions of the FXD or was this it?
I think I’ll leave it at this 😂 basically they are the same watch in different colors and if you age to choose only one it’s just a matter of personal preference and
Never any right or wrong
Great video.
I´ve been eyeing the Hawkrigger straps but haven´t decided between Rigerband or Grappleband.
Also not sure if the FXD version adds too much bulk compared with the standard version. I don´t need the FXD version but its always nice to have it ready for any future fixed bar watches that might come to the collection.
I’ve only tried one atm so I can’t help with that decision too much. Thx for watching
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing and saving us alot of money! Or..... wait.... showing me more strap options I didn't know about.... leading me to spend money🙄.....
I should make videos ‘ I bought this so you don’t have too ‘ …. But I prefer talking
About things I like 🤭
Another vote for Erikas. With a bit of practice the clasp becomes second nature and having endless adjustment is the best :)
The struggle is real for me. But they do bring an excellent balance between comfort and support
@@BowlOfSalmon They really do. One thing I have found that helps is putting some downward pressure on the attachment bar on the 6 o'clock position which lifts the opposite (closest to the buckle) side up. From there I use my fingernail through the buckle (where the strap passes through) to actually attach the buckle to the bar. When the buckle is being attached to the bar, the side of the bar which the buckle is going through is actually fully exposed (thanks to the downward pressure), so it is very easy to thread the buckle through.
I find that if you try and thread the buckle through while the bar is flat (parallel) against your wrist, this makes it extremely difficult. If the bar is perpendicular to your wrist, it is super easy.
I also find that if you are getting used to it or if the strap is brand new, it is helpful to loosen the bar to a less tight position so that you are not fighting the stiffness of the elastic band.
I hope some of this is helpful :)
@@JasonCohenphoto I have a different technique I call "pinching the corner":
1. Pinching the hook with your index finger on top and thumb on the bottom, near the edge closest to your body.
2. Draw the hook past the attachment bar.
3. Hold the hook in place with your index finger while lifting the corner of the attachment bar (closest to you) with your thumb.
4. Tuck the hook into the attachment bar with your middle finger.
This has become so automatic that I had to watch myself do it to remember what exactly my fingers are doing.
Too expensive a strap to be so difficult to fasten. I bought one for my Bulova moon watch and it looks great, but the struggle to fasten it makes it nearly unwearable. Done with the brand given many other less pricy options of equal, or near equal, quality.
@@paulsutphin6703 Sorry but I will have to respectfully disagree. I have tried several other budget options and the quality of strap is much different (especially after extended use). Also, the fastening really comes down to muscle memory and technique... After you get used to putting on/off, it is just as quick as any other option!
Great video!
Thank you 🙏
What a video! Defo made me want to try out a few more strap options on my black FXD 👍🏻 The best one? Well that’s the black FXD ofc 😂 Cheers Tom!
Ofcourse it is 😅🤜
Brilliant video. The fixed bars put me off at first, although I actually love the look of the pelagos FXD. But after watching this video and seeing the vast range of straps and how it can change the look of the watch, I’m beginning to like it more than a steel bracelet.
Thanks and Glad you enjoyed it.
I already have a blue FXD but I agree this is a compelling video for the FXD.
Man your videos are seriously a treat to watch.., Well I will go with blue FXD and with the nato strap which comes with it. Usually I like to wear my watches on Nato I am a true nato guy.
Thank you man 🙏 Make some noise for me. I love myself a good nato too 😉
For the NMD straps, he's working on a titanium version which will pair perfectly with the FXD. Not sure when it's coming, presumably before summer if not earlier since he's almost done prototyping. Thanks for the great video! I have a blue FXD and love it. I do like the black as well, and might have gone for that if it came out sooner, but I got the blue and since it was a gift specific to 2023, and it's a '23, I'll keep this one forever. One other thing, I really like the association of MN with the FXD. It's very inline with the older Tudor Subs, with a modern take. The black and Red Bull Racing version just feel like they're marketing partnerships, diluting the line a bit. Still, all are very nice and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Someone has been paying close attention! 😀Can't wait to share what I have in store!
I need someone to do the impossible and make a bracelet for it 😂
As a former USN rescue swimmer, I just got the MN.23 and am smitten on the NDC original stock MN parachute strap.
I unfortunately missed out to include those. Heard good things
So I’ve got a Pelagos 39. Went to buy the blue Fxd but left with the black one - I just prefer the look. So I love them all but my choice is: black Fxd, Pelagos 39, Blue FXD. As for straps - the Tudor ones look and wear well but I agree about the pubes! The Erika is pretty great. I don’t really like a nato on it - too bulky. I love the comfort of the Garmin - someone needs to make better looking ones (maybe a stripe) with no horrible plastic end. That would be the winner for me. Thanks for the other tips - a couple more for me to test.
Delugs makes something like that. But they don’t work on the fxd I think
I own both a Blue MN 23 and a Pelagos 39, both are great. I do find myself thinking of moving both on and switching to the black dial as I do prefer it on the FXD. So do I buy a Black FXD and sell both of the others? Not sure yet.
I let The Black fxd go again. Happy with the 39 And The blue is a nice switch up
I really like the zuludiver octopod system.
It’s the easiest to put on and
Off the wrist. Should have said that. Damnit
Great video.
Thank you. Appreciated 🙏
I thought it was just me that couldn’t do the buckle of MN style parachute straps. Thanks for sharing. I bought a handful of them from Ali Express for about £3 each.
i don't condone the aliexpress stuff but yeah .. i'm clumsy
@@BowlOfSalmon They’re elastic straps. Where do you think everyone else your buying from gets them 😂
Can't wait to geht my own fxd m.n. 😊
Blue FXD hands down
Great video! Which Nick Mankey options did you show, exactly? The “pro,” in “grey” with “brushed” hardware, or something else?
Exactly! This is probably the Blasted finish hardware though.
This !
Thanks ! And yip that
@@nickmankeydesignstitanium hardware option would awesome. This Tudor owner wouldn’t mind the up-charge to match the FXD case.
@@jerryadams4671 There will be a whole lot more to offer than just the upgrade in material. But that's good to know! 👍
This video is super handy. I just got the pelagos 39 last week, and the long clasp on the bracelet is bothering me. I currently have about 7 nato’s on the way, and a couple others. I’m still on the fence with Erika’s, as it’s hard to justify the asking price. But then again, I did just pay a ridiculous amount for a spring bar removal tool (Bergeron 7825)😂
Enjoy the 39! Seen my other strap guide vid on it ?
@@BowlOfSalmon yes I watched your video on it. Looking forward to going through your channel and watching a bunch more.
I have the MN FXD, and I consider the other two a step down because of their uni-directional bezels. I end up using the bezels much more on my bi-directional countdown watches.
pizza lover huh :)
Beautiful work! And I couldn't agree more on all points 😀 It will eternally baffle me that "hook and loop" was the final choice of material on the stock strap supplied from Tudor.
Thanks you ! As long as we don’t call it Velcro right !? 🫣.
@@BowlOfSalmon NGL, I had to revise my wording before posting 😅
I’ve got the original blue MN FXD and love it. It gets the most wrist time out of my whole collection. I was intrigued by the black dial when it was released but ultimately I feel like the blue version is just a touch more interesting or special in some way. I like the OEM Velcro strap but mix it up with the garmin strap for work (thanks youreterrific) and B&J NATOs. I’ve got a Nick Mankey on order but they take a while.
Great video
Thanks. I’m still very very very indecisive
you have a 6.5 inch wrist ? i always thought the peli 39 was for me cause i was afraid the FXD is too big on my wirst seeing it on your had makes me want one :D its looks too good not to have one would be a crime
I still prefer the 39 myself tbh and I'm not sure why. middle of the pack would be ideal
Excellent video! Which camera and lens did you use for that awesome shots? 🤩
subscribe 10 times and I'll tell you ;) sony a7rv & 90mm macro is the workhorse for most of the macro
for me, the 39 because of its size and EO MN strap are dedicated straps for my watches aside a nato or rubber. Erika’s are expensive but you are getting customization and quality hardware.
i just want the black dial & hands of the fxd on the 39
@@BowlOfSalmonagreed. If it wasn’t for the size, I would’ve bought the fxd in black. The lume hands on the 39 turned me off. I ended up going with the new seiko sje093.
Just got an Erika’s for my black dial FXD. It’s a lovely strap although damn it’s hard to get through the lugs and even harder to fasten. Hopefully this gets easier but it’s not a quick change strap. I had also thought it would be mounted without material against the caseback but that is not how it works, unlike cheaper models. To be clear, that misunderstanding is on me!
Yep. Not the easiest install. To be honest. Most aren’t easy on the fxd. (Beside the regular nato ). The extra one layer fabric underneath I kinda enjoy tbh dunno why that is.
Do one for the explorer ii
Grey nato. The end 😝
Excellent vidéo. If you keep the P39, just let the black FXD go. But on the other hand, Black FXD could be the only and more versatile Pelagos you need 🤷♂️
But don’t pay attention to my 2cents, or I’d recommend you some other pieces 😅
I blame you for all of it 😅
Since I have a BB58 blue the black FXD does speak a lot more to me. It also is different enough (way different) from my Submariner that it has its own character (which I like). If I didn't have the BB58 blue then I would go with the MN version.
I opted to to keep the blue mn to have a change in colour in the collection and the p39 atm is atm my top pick for black diver
As you already know, I’m team blue on this one! Also, all the straps look incredibly good on these two 😮
Blue isn’t Mrs salmon approved anymore 😝
Super video as always Tom. I think the size of the 39 is perfect (for me at least) so a blue FXD in that size would be the one, but as that’s not possible I would say the blue FXD for the win.
I don’t want to know what happens if I see a blue 39
😂
Tudor needs to create a FXD 39!!!! So I can have both the Pelagos 39 and the FXD
Blue FXD all day long. The material of the factory blue pin buckle strap is strange and amazing.
I still wear my watches mostly on bracelets and I prefer smaller sizes. So Pelagos 39 for me.
MN Blue FXD for me ! Love it !!!! As to the strap……I huge fan of the hook and loop followed by with Erika’s straps.
how is your strap looking after a while ?
That grey elastic strap unfortunately would get sucked of fin a wipe out. It looks good though.
nato still your best choice.. would you surf with the OG strap ?
@@BowlOfSalmon - I don’t think my confidence would be great in that either once it has been used a bit and has sand, wax and other dirt in the Velcro. Unless of course if worn under the sleeve of a wetsuit. Definitely not in warm water.
The Blue FXD would be my choice! I already have a No-Date Submariner so the black dialed Pelagos's wouldn't get worn much.
Makes sense. I hope to find a sub to finally wrap up my quest for a diver on a bracelet
@@BowlOfSalmon Sub has to be one of the best bracelet divers! Good luck on your quest.
I've experienced the opposite, since having the black FXD, my no date Sub hardly gets any wrist time. I just prefer the contrast and legibility that the Sub can't match.
The Black suits me the best.
versatile
Love the look of the black in pictures, but have to agree that I'd prefer an improved pelagos 39. The blue fxd wins out for me with the M.N. connection accounting for the fixed lugs and bidirectional countdown bezel. Makes it a bit quirky and interesting to stand out against all the modern and vintage inspired divers out there
Agreed with all those points tbh. Still I don’t want to let any go …
I use CNS PARASTRAP and it’s a wonderful strap for,the FXD
Haven’t tried em yet. Will have a look
I finally picked up a blue FXD 2 weeks ago and it hasn’t left my wrist since. I bought a Barton leather nato that I have been wearing it on a lot, but I have a grey Nick Mankey strap on order. I absolutely love Nick’s straps, but I do not love the 3 month wait haha
Maybe nick didn’t need the extra attention 😝. I wore my blue a lot too. They just are soooo comfortable
Working on it!
I pick the Red Bull Racing.
Do it. It’s not that obviously present but I’m afraid I’m too big of an f1 fan and not a Rb fan. But I like the watch and execution
@@BowlOfSalmon I meant I got it, I really like it!
I'm not a redbull fan either though I like vcarb. I'm on a list for the Alinghi. It was so good in person.
FXD Carbon for me.
those red bull ones felt great. just less my cup of tea
I love that black FXD though I think it would have been perfect if they pulled the size in 2mm in all directions and gave it a bi-directional bezel. We really need to get over the whole uni-directional thing, no one is relying on dive tables and their luxury dive watch to time a dive.
Two words. Pizza timer.
Nobody seems to get this. The bi-directional bezel tipped the scale for me and I love it. I don't understand why the black isn't the same.
Even if you did use a luxury watch as you backup timer to your computer bi-directional would be fine.
What really pisses me off is when lazy companies make a 24hr GMT and keep the uni-directional bezel.
keep that black FXD, I think its a no brainer.
As long as I don’t think it over it’s a no-brainer :)
Black by a mile, the backwards blue is a miss for me.
any choice is good mate. it's all a matter of personal taste
That red and green strap is butt ugly. Looks like a christmas tree. That being said - I like that black more than that blue.
Straps are there as starting point ;)
Red Bull for me. These are too boring and without character. The exposed velcro section also looks really bad on all of these watches. Unless you have a tiny wrist and the strap completely covers the ugly Velcro.
if you prefer red bull. by all means do it .. but why attack a watch that other people like just because you don't like it !?
@@BowlOfSalmon it’s called freedom of speech. Perhaps people that don’t agree have to stay silent under your rules?
FXD- 39mm black
