Apologies for the poor phrasing on the Evans point I was supposed to say that he is more comfortable on his left foot, rather than saying he is left footed (his weak foot is actually extremely impressive and on the official transfermarkt website he is classed as "both") The general point remains the same regardless
One underrated factor is the resurgence of Eriksen. Eriksen might be physically deficient than the other midfielders but the way he reads the game is sublime. He's been putting a good shift almost every match.
He has significantly improved his fitness this season. Previously he frequently disappeared c 60 minutes or was subbed around the same point. On Saturday he was still going strong at the end and was winning possession tackling back well into the final quarter. Also he didn’t play much last season so is relatively fresh compared to the likes of Bruno. It’s not all about tactics. Energy and athleticism have been a big problem for United this season but Eriksen has been an exception.
I am actually liking the idea of Licha at LB. Once Yoro and Maguire come back, maybe it's worthwhile to keep licha at LB in case Shaw/Malacia still need more time to get fit.
In possession I like it but the community shield final showed that he isn't the best at one on one defending which was why we conceded late on. However, I do think that he can step up for the big games.
I like rashford in the half space. He becomes a lot less predictable and is required to defend over shorter distances which I think suits his explosiveness. He’s also able to find easier running lines in behind or less complicated patterns to find himself or the ball in the box. Bruno thriving in the left half space as per usual. This was good to see. Hopefully we can see more against stronger sides
I said on UnitedPeoplesTV channel that Rashy would operate better as a CF. This means his path to goal is shortest (a straight line), instead of a curved run from wide, which, without a natural LB who overlaps, is useless.. This also allows Garna to stay as a wide LW, who 'overlaps' Rashy.
He looks much better in this position, I like him a lot there, it also allows Dalot to get in those positions like the one where he scored vs Brighton or the one yesterday, because naturally, your going to be marking Rashford rather than dalot
Inside left or RF in the half spaces, near to a focal point, to play of, closer to goal, to run in behind, and get in on goal, and then we can push the full-backs forward, to get extra thrust in attack, put crosses into Hojlund
I definitely noticed it in the 2nd half; we had much more width which stretched Brentford's defence, and allowed Rashford to have much more space. I actually quite like him in the half-spaces, it accomodates for the loss of a player such as Amad Diallo who loves those half spaces. It allows Rashford to drift inside quite a lot and allow him to get those wonderful crosses in, makeshim much more unpredictable. It creates a good dynamic for us, someone who can create from the right using the half spaces, a direct winger on the left and Hojlund up top who if he consistently performs like he did yesterday, can hold up play and spin his man, OR, get in behind
If you watch Licha true out this game and the way United plays you can clearly see Ajax. This game we was our best tactical game in a long time and it looks like he finally broke the code. Every player is positioned and ready to get the ball and pass it on.❤ Now we finally start to see the fruit of Ten Hags labor. Both Marcus and Højlund played a great game and it freed up Garnacho on the side, but the getting Licha up on that left side high up on the pitch really made a difference. Getting him in to the box and around the box made it to difficult for Brentford. Things are looking up!❤
I'm seeing more and more positives. We've cut the chances conceded by more than 50%. We're creating more chances. When our final ball decision making improves, we're in for some joyous football. Loving Licha at LB. 🎉
Here’s my 2 cents, the tactics in that game worked (esp in the 2nd half) but the thing that really got us the win is the siege mentality that our players got after the goal. The anger, the fight, the passion and dedication. If they can harness that and keep it, we can beat anyone.
The last time they showed this hunger was against man City fa cup! But One thing for sure! With ten hag we will have good moments and he can handle pressure! But consistently is lacking, for 2 years already! The last time we were consistent was on 2022-23 season!
If we have a good number of center backs, I'd push martinez to cdm. He is such a presence. The physicality, penetrative passing, carrying, press resistance, actively hunting down threats instead of backing off. He has everything. Might even be better than Ugarte in the role tbh.
While in isolation as ten hag himself said it’s only one win but the significant difference between previous managers who’ve been in this place in their 3 year very much we’re seeing the players completely down tools you don’t get the performances and comebacks this late into the project unless the players maybe not all but most still believe in the manager think some fans need to learn how to be patient obviously not be delusional but a lot of fans and fan media has been over the top this season. Just look at Evan’s too who’s been defending ten hag too
I’ve personally been calling for same footed wingers in the correct side (Ed Rashford on the right wing) to mix up the attack and have the winger role more concentrated on chance creation than being the ones in the end of the plays. that cross was sublime for Garnacho’s goal and demonstrates another good option for us when attacking considering how stale it’s been at times in the final third
Yes I enjoyed it! Well I thought our problems were personnel based but I think the opposition just know what to expect from us. I wish ten hag can be more adventurous and be adapting. You know how he usually ends a winning tight game with a back 5. While people expect to play from the back let's have it long sometimes. Ipswich had this thing last year where the striker would move to the opposition fullback position and the long ball would be sent there. Such tiny ideas are nice
Seeing how well Eriksen has done lately just makes me even more enjoyed at how well we've recruited. We signed Mason Mount for big money when we should have signed a ball carrier that offers more like a Frenkie De Jong.
Mount signings was baseless and was done solely by John murthoug ETH wanted Dejong or a player in his mould but was forced with casemiro and co till date he hasn't gotten that Dejong player and its clear we need that type of player mainoo is good but still to young Imagine we got Ugarte and Onana in midfield both good ball players both physical and good ball carriers its definitely going to be a big plus for the team
1. Our players showed fight in them, Rashford was tracking back, pressing, and you could see everyone fighting for the victory from front to back. 2. Eriksen: the man brings control and better passing then any other alternatives. 3. Bruno wasnt as erratic, he played a bit deeper too or was i imagining it? 4. The back 4 is more comfortable.
The midfield is a massive problem. Eriksen and Casemiro in the pivot with Bruno at 10 is not good, especially off the ball. Only Casemiro is a ball winner, plus all 3 are too slow. I would like a 3 man midfield of Mainoo, Ugarte and Mount, all 3 are ball winners and quick enough to recover when United lose possession.
Yes I agree with you ut still the biggest problems of Manchester United are in the midfield for at times they all move at once creating a free space for the opponents to run through and offend Manchester easily
Commentators talked a lot about Dalot inverting into midfield in our last game in the second half, and how that tilted the game in our favour. Thoughts?
when bruno go back to pass the ball to wings we have more ppl in the middle field. he should do more, and rashford should pass the ball instead of hitting the stone.
