    VA is clearly the best, as it has the most advantages with the least amount of disadvantages.
    TN:
    + Fastest response times
    + Most inexpensive
    - Awful viewing angles
    - Awful gamma/color shift from top to bottom, even if viewed from straight on
    - Sub-par colors and color accuracy
    - Sub-par contrast/black levels
    IPS:
    + Most color accurate
    + Best viewing angles
    - Slow response times
    - Awful contrast/black levels
    - Awful IPS glow on dark scenes
    - Most vulnerable to backlight bleeding
    - Suffers from image retention or temporary burn-in
    VA:
    + Best contrast/black levels
    + Great viewing angles (although not as good as IPS)
    + Can be even more color accurate than IPS (i.e. with Quantum Dot)
    + Very little to no backlight bleeding or glow
    - Slow response times, similar to IPS
    - Suffers from minor gamma shift (nowhere near as severe as TN)

      I was looking for a va monitor too. I just purchased a dell 4k ips and it did not fit for what I was doing because since I develop I need the black to be real black. Ips doesn't have inky black what va does. I usually sit like 2 feet away from monitor so which one is better please help me choose one. Both are VA, one is 350$ for 2k 32in and the other is 4k 32in quantom dot for 600$. Both are samsung, good for eyes, but will the 4k be more worth it? will it make the text and code more crisp. I wanted to ask because its a 250$ difference. Thanks for helping.

      I actually own and am using the U32H850UMN right now. It's a fantastic monitor and one of the best I've ever used in terms of color and black levels. I am not familiar with the S32D850T, but it doesn't appear to have Quantum Dot so you'll lose out on the wider range of colors. The PPI on the 4K will be also be a lot higher. Just make sure you turn on some amount of scaling (full native 4K resolution on a 32" is still too small to be usable IMO). On mine I have it set to Retina/HiDPI WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440), so the text are razor sharp and it looks just jaw dropping.
      Worth the extra $250 for the wider colors, higher resolution and PPI will be up to you decide.
      You might want to also check out the 32" and 27" CHG70 series. They are only WQHD resolution, but they have a much higher refresh rate (144Hz), has HDR and in my experience can go a lot higher on brightness. They are curved however so they might not work best for mainly photo production.

    • @saadbangash2422
      @saadbangash2422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok since I am a developer I use my monitor a lot. Which monitor would the contrast be higher. What is quantum dot is it aimed for photographers or gamers. I just want a monitor with deep blacks and sharp text. Wouldn't 4k have more clearer text and btw i am not in for gaming just office use, so curve is a no for me. Also by the way i confirmed this monitor is a va, quantum dot monitor. I wanted to state that I only care for the deep blacks, text razor sharp, and color production which is also good I heard with Quantum dot. The thing is with Quantum dot technology will you loose the deep blacks like in your monitor
      This is a persons review on this monitor: you can skip to 10:25 where he talks about the blacks of the monitor. Can you actually check that does your monitor have more or less bleed than this one. THANKS alot

    • @wonderpierrot
      @wonderpierrot 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ordered four of these monitors and only one out of the four had actual backlight bleed. The rest are perfect, but you will need to be viewing the monitor at straight eye level. Severe deviation and you will get some minor light glow from the corners, sides, etc. This isn't bleed, but more of a viewing angle problem. Again, when viewed straight on, a black screen is pretty much pure black.
      The contrast/black levels are excellent, way deeper than any IPS or TN monitor I've used.
      You can get razor sharp text if you turn on scaling (even to 120% on Windows) or use a Retina/HiDPI resolution on a Mac.
      Quantum Dot just extends the range of colors (wider gamut), so reds will be more red, greens will be more green, etc. The monitor comes professional factory calibrated so yes, the colors are very accurate. You can always tone down the colors if the saturation is too high.
      Good luck!

    Didn't mention the awful black levels (ie grey) of IPS. It's much more important to be able to see details in a night scene than to care about an extra 6ms response time or that extra 4% of the sRGB colour space.

    • @OheyBro
      @OheyBro 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +other tomperson Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a new monitor soon, and that's what I'm worried about with the new Philips 43" 4K monitor which is IPS. So I may just go for the previous 40" 4K VA one, as I watch a lot of movies and black levels are important to me.

      Johnny Boy I use the Samsung JU6400 TV when I want to lay back and watch a film, or play a game with a controller. It's 4K, 40" (though they have a range of sizes), VA, and with Game Mode on it's a fantastic gaming monitor and not too expensive either. My parents have an IPS TV and for me VA is definitely the way forward until OLED becomes affordable.

    • @OheyBro
      @OheyBro 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ended up getting the Wasabi Mango UHD400 monitor. Good colour, contrast and blacks :) So much better than my previous TN monitor which had crappy contrast and washed out blacks. (unless you lowered the brightness in Nvidia Control Panel, causing you to lose detail in night scenes)

    I had been very unhappy with my TN monitor, a Samsung S24D300HL. While it really was super responsive (remarkably so) and provided rather vivid colours, literally everything else about it was irredeemably awful. No brightness consistency across the screen, limited viewing angles and, most disappointingly, exceptionally bad "blacks", which were hardly even dark grays. However, I didn't really know what else to get, or more specifically, whether a different panel type would even solve my issues. This video pointed me in the direction of VAs, so I read up on the technology, compared a few devices and ultimately decided on an inexpensive BenQ VW2430H just to try it out. I'm really happy with this decision, so I just wanted to thank you for your informative video. It really helped me out.

    I don't get people who say "oh ill buy a TN panel because its faster for games"....seriously ive tested a 1ms TN vs a 5ms IPS and the difference in motion blur is negligible at best! difference in input lag is also negligible. But the difference between TN's inferior colours and viewing angles compared to those on an IPS is night and day! I used to be a fan of TN until I was completely blown away by IPS. I cant even handle the site of TN anymore. once you experience IPS you'll NEVER go back to TN regardless of whether or not you're a gamer or graphic designer.

      +iamthewizard2 well, i used a 60hz IPS tv as a monitor for 3 years, and now i'm on a 144hz TN panel.
      here's my two cents: black are SO MUCH WORSE.
      color is also much worse
      but input lag is godly better. uncomparably.
      also using 144hz for a day will make you never want to go back to 60hz. it seriously looks what 30hz looks like if you're used to 60hz.

      For graphics design IPS is mandatory. I recently upgraded from a TN to an IPS and the difference is like night and day. Especially if you have them side, by side.

  • @Thread212

    Ips arent that bad now.
    Slow Response time and input lag are things of the past.

    • @Thread212
      @Thread212 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What motion blur?
      because " motion blur " is not the correct terms for Ghosting.
      Dude Response time is number 1 useless specs on monitor because there's no real standard on how to measure it and every manufacture measure it very differently from each other.And on top of that no one can see 4ms or 1ms or even 8ms pixel movement.This myth always survive till now because when the first IPS technology is launched they has a very slow response time.But now IPS can achieve 144hz frequency just like TN. So if u can spot a ghosting on 4ms response time then i dont believe u. try this then to prove it www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime . and the terms " GREY on GREY 2 GREY" "GREY" means color. Not the grey color we know. and manufacture use different color to measure the g2g response time.

    • @Thread212
      @Thread212 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CRT always better than TN OR IPS.
      In terms of response time.
      But ghosting always happen and u can see if u use high speed camera.
      But if u dont, i am 100% sure u wont be able to notice it even at slowest IPS panel when gaming.
      E-sport use TN because of marketing BS.They ate PIE from manufacturer that make some products labeled as" GAMING ".
      From chair to headset,glasses pffttt and other peripherals.
      And if u are saying that.
      "Even IPS with 4Ms responce & 144Hz gray to gray just dont perform as they should.
      It's the limatations of IPS "
      And so the TN.
      Their G2G response time dont perform as they should because there's no real standard for that and every manufacturer measured it very differently.
      take a look at this.
      u.cubeupload.com/Glenwing/ResponseTime2.png
      that is the benchmark from glenwing an LTT display expert.
      which clearly shows a 12ms PLS monitor more or less equalling a TN 5ms monitor from another vendor.
      Motion blur and slow response time in IPS panel are thing of the past.

    • @Thread212
      @Thread212 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** you dont capture an image of moving object on monitor because it always looks blurry unless u are using special camera like phantom camera in video format.
      Its because u never use a good IPS monitor.
      according to glenwing benchmark. a 12ms IPS from samsung monitor has a better response time than 5 ms TN.
      A good TN panel will have a slightly good color reproduction than ordinary TN but will never be as good and vibrant as IPS.
      That is depends on what backlight u are using. If u buy a budget monitor it will often has edge lit backlight and backlight bleeding often happen with edge lit monitor.
      But if u buy a monitor with Full array led backlight then its rare for it to have such problem.

    • @Thread212
      @Thread212 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Dude i own a computer store and i am not one of those crazy salesman moment. i know what i am selling.
      and i think people should stop saying that IPS arent great for gaming.Because they are not anymore.
      Which IPS monitor did u have?
      Yeah u should buy a modern IPS and if u are new on display technology i suggest u to sign up to LTT and asking around under display section the awesome community will help u out or PM me username Thread212 or just learn from wikipedia or Tft central.
      I mean seriously. IPS is not what people thinks anymore.
      They are getting much better now. i mean much more better.

    I know, I know, and if you can afford even an entry level one then you probably don't care spending the tiny difference in electricity bill, that's why I said it was only a slight disadvantage, 15% more power matters a bit more in ultra/notebooks though.

    Just bought a month ago the very best gaming monitor (BenQ XL2420Z) for 392$CAD but since I've seen my mom's (iPad Air) which is 2560x1440 IPS on 9.7", I really feel like changing my secondary monitor (BenQ GW2450) which I was using for photo editing. I still consider it the very best value at only 160$ for 1080P since A-MVA have a 3x higher static contrast ratio than TN and IPS but it's viewing angles fall between these 2 other technologies.
    Now I'm looking at one of the Korean 2560x1440 27" IPS between 300-380$ as those sold in America are total rip off that cost much much more even if it has the same LG or Samsung panel inside (-_-) but I still say the BenQ above is unbeatable at this price and is even gaming-proof for 60-71Hz as even a 1ms TN will suck if it's only at 60Hz. Hell... even a 144Hz TN is crap compare to those with strobbing such as my new Z series.

    id recomend an asus tn like the vg236h which is well made and colours are perfect with minimal tinkering. The whole wider viewing angles(blown out of proportion as most people are in front of their monitor and the difference between the two is only obvious when you get to extreme angles) and colours is total bs. Ive owned both tn and ips and unless you want resolutions above 1080p tn is the way to go. The colours on tn are very good and they have MUCH depper blacks look into ips black glow.

    for those who are impatient for the video, which may not even be coming, i will give an explanation.
    Get however much RAM you need for what you do (web browsing/microsoft office is around 4 GB for a standard user, games are about 6gb and other stuff can go up from there). Speed really doesn't matter above 1600mhz, Don't waste your money, you won't notice. DDR/DDR2/DDR3 are not cross compatible. Try to match RAM as closely with each other as possible (same size, speed, brand, model if possible).
