Love the dark trio but the one I'm having the most fun with and enjoying is CHAINSAW MAN. fr this is the one manga I have read multiple times and I still do go back read part 1 often lmaoo.
tbh i started jigoruaku because someone called gabimaru schizofrenic and that was like, strange to hear so everytime gabimaru would think of his wife and be questioned, i asked myself if this wife was actually real and not a person he created himself to survive, amnesia or MPD? it was really great and kept me on my toes regarding the story
Csm is my fav out of the three. But Hell’s paradise has the best world setting in terms of looks and csm has the best world building, I mean look at part 2, it’s still ongoing and we don’t rlly know the history of devils rlly and the four-horse men in proper depth. The system of devils is rlly captivating. JJK is okay I stopped at the shuyiba arc, I was busy at the time. The art is not that good imo. Story wise it’s decent. Hell’s paradise, at first I stopped reading it at ch30 but picked it up and it was amazing however the ending was a bit rushed imo still good tho. The art is phenomenal like rlly.also is csm the art is so rough yet so meticulous it fits the ambience. Storytelling of csm is deep which I appreciate with all the crazy and sad moments in the manga, when u re read it. So yh
Funny because the anime adaptations of all three are being made by the same studio, MAPPA. And so far I gotta say, damn they are doing a fine job with all of em
Jigokuraku has finally aired and it pains me to say the production wasn't quite the best. But the first few episodes looked spectacular. Here hoping season 2 will be JJK and CSM level
Regarding the art of these manga, chansaw man is by far the most beautiful, no questions asked. That said, CSM and hell's paradise struggle to compete with fight visual clarity compared to jjk. The fights in jjk are so well drawn and creative!
Thank you for this video. You did really well explaining the hype for all three series. I was mainly excited about JJK but will definitely check out the other two series.
Both are really close. I rate them the same out of 10 so the rest is just up to personal preference. The ranking in the future depends on how good chainsaw man shippuden is
There's only one problem with Hell's Paradise (for me). The Lord Tengan fights are pretty long. When they bloom and become the Kaiju it often time feel as though it's dragging on.
Jigokuraku is undoubtely the best of the three, and the fact is the least known is a confirmation of that. Chainsaw Man is really good, maybe a bit to edgy just for the sake of being edgy but still solid. JJK finds its peak in the Shibuya Arc and Yuji Extermination Arc, which are two of the best recent Jump arcs, but then it gets so worse that I can't even say if it's right to still consider it a good enough manga
Jigokuraku is the best out of dark trio but not because its the least popular. The writing of its characters&overall plot are just better imo. I could definitely see it being on the same level as jjk in terms of popularity
I personally never read Hell's Paradise, but what sets Chainsawman apart from a lot of shonen is that there are no definitive power scaling. It allows the story to go for plot twist that you can never think of. It gives the series a unique feel and makes fight more "unpredictable" than JJK altho I do feel JJK has much better art since CSM feels very hand-drawn and scribbly.
@@WalkingTheShelf Not most - there is definitely quite some people in the comment who prefered the clearer and crisper edges of jjk. The common argument is that CSM has better page layout but page layout does not equal to the art as it is simply a creative formatting. Can it make the art more readable and lifelike? Definitely. But does it make you admire each panel more? Not exactly.
@@clementchung919 in general most prefer chainsaw man; in fact Gege is one of the most criticized mangaka in terms of his art. Fujimoto's artistic style as well as his paneling received a ton of praise before the adaption for chainsaw man was ever announced. So I'm going to have to hard disagree with your statement.
@@WalkingTheShelf I'll admit that its hard for me to validate my points because can you actually gather actual statistics on opinions and can you actually trust what you're seeing when algorithmns exist in social media to pinpoint those with similar viewpoints? But I don't deny that these criticisms exist as I've seen them altho a lot less for me to feel its the general readers. Its about preference I suppose - I honestly don't feel that JJK's art is that much worse than Chainsawman as in you're implying how some people feel, but I don't disagree that there is a large group out there that feels that.
@@clementchung919 Sorry for the confusion but I wasn’t trying to imply JJK is worse. I was just saying JJK has a very rough kind of sketchy art style. Blade of the immortal is similar in that sense, and blade of the immortal is one of my favorite manga artistically of all time. It all comes down to preference at the end of the day
JJK is the least constant with the most problems. I easily could do an entire rant on that it's not great. Hell's Paradise is truly amazing work. It's deeply underrated, I'm inspired after reading all of the story. Chainsaw Man in a few major areas I felt quickly became my favorite of the Dark Trio. I do prefer the Dark Trio over the Big 3 but I still respect them. Chainsaw Man is very inspiring stuff with some characters working way better than expected.
I’m assuming you meant consistent and not constant. I do disagree with that take quite a bit, JJK has plenty of problems but I don’t think consistency is one of them. I can’t remember how I ranked these series but I’d put JJK at #1 given the state of each series at the moment.
@@WalkingTheShelf I did use the wrong word lol thanks. For me JJK's later half made some huge mistakes I can't ignore. I confess it's a little overrated with everything considered. JJK is basically Bleach 2.0 just not as good. Bleach made mistakes as well but I felt it lives up to it's potential more.
I would go as far as to say that Chainsaw Man only focuses on three characters. Power is important and vital to Denji’s character arc, but this was not her story the way it was for Denji, Aki and Makima
So? That's just a normal thing in Shonen, it's always 2 or 3 main characters, and maybe a 4th main character, but 2 of them always stand out and rarely 3, that happens in Dragon Ball, Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, etc.
Me personally what i like better between Hell's paradise and cem changes depending how i feel any given day. But both jjk and csm are still ongoing so they could prolyl surpass eventually
@@WalkingTheShelf yeah i have confidence in fujimoto for part 2. Gege im a little unsure of cause supposedly its supposed to wrap up next year and theres a lot to cover but the culling games been great so far and he gave me no signifigant reason to doubt him.
My only knowledge of JJK is the anime so i won't be having an opinion of it as of now but have read the other 2. Here are my rankings between HP and CSM: *Character writing/depth:* HP, i think even the side characters, even the one who are killed off are fantastic and go through some sort of progression or development. *Art:* CSM, some panels are just crazy and reminds me of Berserk at times with how chaotic yet detailed a 1 page panel can be. Hp is fine but some of the panels are hard to comprehend at times because of how messy it is. *Story/plot:* HP, i think the plot is simple yet well handled and really is the reason a lot of characters shine and get polished out because they're all working towards the main goal in the plot. *Pacing and execution of overall premise and themes:* honestly i have got to go with both, they're both well paced and execute the themes they want to portray pretty much perfectly. HP's philosophy of seeing one's weakness as strength is handled well and is reflected well in the characters without feeling too much of a drag or too undefined. CSM's themes are reflected very well in denji, the feeling of emptiness when you don't have a good goal or purpose in life and the trauma of being controlled and the effect that losing people you care for have on you, fujimoto does it very subtly but you can see especially in part 2 that denji is quite changed despite how immature he acts he definitely has grown as a person and it felt very well placed in the perfect moments without it being too jarring or out of character for denji. *Personal favourite:* CSM, although HP has a great ending and is a solid 7.5-8/10 to me but that's basically it for HP while CSM has a lot more potential since it hasn't ended yet and is a longer series overall. I haven't read JJK but i have heard good things, mainly about Shibuya arc and culling games or whatever but not much else from that so since i know nothing about where that'll be placed in my personal rankings.
0:12 that is True the big 3 shonen of the 2000's were indeed Naruto, Bleach and, One Piece. I consider the secrete 4th Gintama. The Big 3 Seinen were/are Berserk, Kingdom, and Vagabond.
I wouldn’t really consider a secret 4th to be a thing tbh. There’s not a common sentiment on there even being a 4th, let alone what it would be. I’ve seen so many people say that fairy tale should’ve been big 3 so they consider it the secret 4th. this is probably the first time I’ve heard someone suggest Gintama. I’ve also seen people talk about a seinen big 3 which is a similar situation to the “secret 4th”. I’ve seen Vinland Saga in more of the seinen big 3’s than Kingdom (which would make sense because the anime big 3 is a western concept to begin with)
Dark Trio? I didn't know they were called that. Personally I like all three of them but I really not a huge fan. Im still waiting for that manga to hook me
Hells paradise doesn't really fit in with the rest. It has a different tone, setting and also no plot points that connect it with the other two manga. It fits in way more with something like demon slayer than jjk or csm
Hard disagree. The tone of hell’s Paradise is significantly closer to JJK/Chainsaw Man than demon slayer. The only aspect I agree with you on is that the setting is different.
I know only jjk and Hells paradise, havent read the manga of CM but Im watching the anime. I honestly think Hells paradise is the best one till now, will have to wait until the other 2 are completed so I can have a better opinion
It's got the old school shonen feel. Antiquated setting , religious / cultural themes , fellowship/ family being a big theme too. I love all three equally ,easily my top 3 new age manga/ anime
I don't see anything in Part 2 or the most recent JJK to be notable. Both are still building up to something greater, but what is currently shown is nothing special
I’m seriously getting annoyed at how hell’s paradise is getting snuffed. I mean to GOATmaru aka gabimaru the GOAT is one of the most stark contrast to any other shonen MC Also I’m pissed they changed his eyes from red to lime green
Damn I’m late the first ep of hells paradise just became animated so I’m trynna get all the information I can get. Don’t worry ima still read the manga
A year later I’d say that jjk is in top of a lot of things now. Personally csm hasn’t been that interesting lately, don’t get me wrong part 2 is good but it doesn’t hit the same. Currently reading hells paradise and so far I like it. My ranking for these three series as a whole would probably be: jjk, csm and hells paradise. Protagonist wise I’d say: denji, Yuji(it’s close between Yuji and denji) and then gabimaru. Deuteragonist: Sagiri(I really like her character so far), Aki and then Megumi. Antagonist I’d say: Makima, Kenny/sukuna and then hells paradise (I haven’t gotten far enough to meet the antagonist yet) And for artstyle I’d say: jjk(i love how gege draws hands and his fight choreography) HP and then csm Hells paradise is kinda of hard to judge for me as I haven’t read all of it but I do like it.
The Dark Trio's writing is absolutely beautiful. The depth, the foreshadowings and the art styles are amazing and meet AOTs standards. Their writing is perfect especially with writing gender, women aren't just purely their to be objectified and fan service. The womans sex appeal adds depth and are actually strong written women with backstories and strength
Asta stops shouting that bad after ep 4, deku idk i didnt watch mha and tanjiro... oh god I HATE the "funny parts" in demon slayer they look like a cartoon made for 4 yo kids and tanjiro doesnt help at all hes just the "good hearted boy" without much moments where he actually show's development
Mappa is really the goat right now theyre pumping out amazing manga adaptations left and right and they’re making all the right decisions. Although I feel for the animators since they must be overworked at this point
What I really like about the dark trio is that it's very reflective of the current generation of teenagers and how they feel. I think the edginess, tragedy, and irony is something that a lot of teenagers face nowadays and is the reason why these manga's were so sucessful
Edgy stories have been super present since the 80s and 90s, I think series like JJK and Chainsaw Man move away from that. It’s not about making an edgy narrative because it’s cool, it’s about crafting a tragic tale while having hopeful elements that help emphasize the tragedy. Maybe that sounds pretentious but that’s my interpretation
Personally, I hate chainsaw man. The manga just went so out of control for me that I don't look forward to the new Saga Or season 2 of the anime. But this video has given me the motivation to start Hell's paradise and catch up with jjk manga.
Jjk got boring fast in the manga i don't even know if the part I'm in is the past or present or a memory or side story bruh Finished csm and hell's paradise
@@kenmaru777 I love it fire punch don’t get me wrong. I just think it kinda stumbles at the start, towards the end and specifically the actual ending is what makes the manga amazing to me. @@WalkingTheShelf haha, a lot of anitubers I know actually hate the ending 😅 They see in FP a idea of nihilism When I didn't thought about this ever while reading This is a best part Its so open for interpretation I read from comments about Agni losing his fire when his vengeance disappeared And his right arm (fir punch) disappeared too Also he recovers only when people say him to LIVE Anyway people would love love love ang video about this manga believe me So if you want to make it, we will be happy
A tier list for the dark trio would be Jjk Chainsaw Man Hells paradise. But I love all of them (didn’t read hells paradise though) and they are very close on the list

I just read hells paradise and I feel it is as good as the other two.
Love the dark trio but the one I'm having the most fun with and enjoying is CHAINSAW MAN. fr this is the one manga I have read multiple times and I still do go back read part 1 often lmaoo.
Part 1 is amazing. I’ve put off part 2 while I’m reading other stuff, but I’m excited to let the chapters build up and binge through it
tbh i started jigoruaku because someone called gabimaru schizofrenic and that was like, strange to hear so everytime gabimaru would think of his wife and be questioned, i asked myself if this wife was actually real and not a person he created himself to survive, amnesia or MPD? it was really great and kept me on my toes regarding the story
I know them animators are getting worked rn but they’re absolutely cooking
Jigokuraku has finally aired and it pains me to say the production wasn't quite the best. But the first few episodes looked spectacular. Here hoping season 2 will be JJK and CSM level
i love hells paradise. it has become my favorite manga of all time and i hope the anime pops off
i believe it will be bigger in time due to the 2d animation and better naruto vibe 🤣
Regarding the art of these manga, chansaw man is by far the most beautiful, no questions asked. That said, CSM and hell's paradise struggle to compete with fight visual clarity compared to jjk. The fights in jjk are so well drawn and creative!
all 3 animated by same studio
Thank you for this video. You did really well explaining the hype for all three series. I was mainly excited about JJK but will definitely check out the other two series.
The dark trio is finally animated 🔥
I disagree. I think jujutsu kaisen has great art. Especially the way sensei draws the hands. Very unique and powerful strokes.
I don’t think we disagree, I’m pretty sure I said the art was good. Been a while since I recorded this video though
Chainsaw Man is my favorite out of the three, but I'd ranked Hell's Paradise above Chainsaw Man.
pretty interesting you ranked CSM over HP 🤔
Oh Hell Yeah! I thought the same! CSM's art is my favorite out of the three, and I think it's the best too.
aight I understand why you would rank CSM over HP, I agree that the villains aren't as fleshed out that much (except Tao Fa and Ju Fa)
Both are really close. I rate them the same out of 10 so the rest is just up to personal preference. The ranking in the future depends on how good chainsaw man shippuden is
my dude Tenza is the best boi in Jigokuraku, dude fighting spirit is just really on another level.
Out of the 3 CSM and JJK have the best villains .
Makima is great but I honestly think both Sukuna and Kenjaku are better by a decent margin.
@@WalkingTheShelf i agree
love the video bro, keep making great stuff!
Yup Hell's Paradise is top notch, each characters backstory beautifully interwoven.
I really need to start reading Hell's Paradise.
There's only one problem with Hell's Paradise (for me). The Lord Tengan fights are pretty long. When they bloom and become the Kaiju it often time feel as though it's dragging on.
I can see that. Lord Tengan and pretty much all the other antagonists were pretty mediocre, not terrible, just pretty bland
lol i mean that is because lord tensen are supposed to be strong use your brain
the fights vs lord tensen are perfect
@@Jonas-jx3kw Also the true villain actually has a decent motivation and is not bloody weak.
@@WalkingTheShelf
The story as a whole is mediocre in my opinion, but the lore is awesome.
I disagree with the whole “least known = best” notion, but I can respect liking hell’s paradise the most.
Hilarious jjk easily clears and terrible opinion on the recent arcs lol
@zeldris_2714 very ridiculous take
Jigokuraku is the best out of dark trio but not because its the least popular. The writing of its characters&overall plot are just better imo. I could definitely see it being on the same level as jjk in terms of popularity
I find the story of hell's paradise to be alright at best. Haven't read the other two yet.
Mappa be like: you get an anime! and you get an anime!
"Dark Trio" is a great name! Shit hard AF
Interesting take because Most people seem to prefer Chainsaw man’s art.
It all comes down to preference at the end of the day
My favourite is hell paradise because the story, the cover, the pace and the art also
As of now I'll rank them as
Jjk manga insane rn> csm part 2 is slow and is building up characters for now > hell's paradise
Hell's Paradise is so underrated
@@katsuoft7408 ok!
Hells paradise is getting the short end of the stick anime wise too
I’ve heard. Very unfortunate
hells paradise is the best out of the 3 imo. this could change since jjk and csm aren't finished ofc
And all three of the animes are animated by studio Mappa! Coincidence? I think not!
I really felt like i could get more attaxhed to the characters of hell's paradise compared to chainsawman in the story
Jigokuraku's anime is looking SO good, also I can't stop listening to the op in the trailer
Me personally what i like better between Hell's paradise and cem changes depending how i feel any given day. But both jjk and csm are still ongoing so they could prolyl surpass eventually
That’s fair. Hell’s paradise ended at the perfect time, I can only hope CSM and JJK do the same
@@WalkingTheShelf yeah i have confidence in fujimoto for part 2. Gege im a little unsure of cause supposedly its supposed to wrap up next year and theres a lot to cover but the culling games been great so far and he gave me no signifigant reason to doubt him.
i was gonna ask "ok wb tokyo ghoul" but then i remembered that one is actually seinen lol
I've read jjk and chainsaw man. Might as well read hells paradise
My only knowledge of JJK is the anime so i won't be having an opinion of it as of now but have read the other 2. Here are my rankings between HP and CSM:
*Character writing/depth:* HP, i think even the side characters, even the one who are killed off are fantastic and go through some sort of progression or development.
I’ve seen Vinland Saga in more of the seinen big 3’s than Kingdom (which would make sense because the anime big 3 is a western concept to begin with)
the fact that all of these are adapted by mappa
Dark is a tag-on often used alongside other genre terms. So I think Dark Trio is apt since it's the shared genre tag between these three.
I loved hell's paradise... I'm missing gabimaru.
Thank god someone talked about Naruto leaving behind my favorite characters who were so important before shippuden happened
Neji, Lee, Sai, Yamato, and pretty much anybody from part 1 that wasn't team 7 all got shafted pretty bad.
look my take on the big three is just to say that muring their time those were the top three highest rated anime/manga
It’s not measurable. It’s just something people in the west came up with, it’s social perception
And they are all animated by MAAPA
JJK art is the reason i started art and i reread and wanted to make a manga
I agree chainsaw man's action panels flowed very well.
Hope that anime Hell's paradise to get better...love the dark trio so much man
I’ve still gotta watch the first ep. I was hoping it would be on Hulu
You had to you THAT panel for Makima huh? smh
Bang
CSM > Hells paradise > jjk
Parts 2 of CSM is fucking nuts
Idk if you’re caught up on JJK, but the most recent chapters are insane
@@WalkingTheShelf ive only seen the anime, but ive been spoiled for some events... sukuna is wild
I don't see anything in Part 2 or the most recent JJK to be notable. Both are still building up to something greater, but what is currently shown is nothing special
@@WalkingTheShelf yep the 212 and later on is fucking crazy
I’m seriously getting annoyed at how hell’s paradise is getting snuffed. I mean to GOATmaru aka gabimaru the GOAT is one of the most stark contrast to any other shonen MC
Also I’m pissed they changed his eyes from red to lime green
He’s going to be one of the most slept on protagonists even after the anime most likely. It’s unfortunate, kinda like Allen Walker

In my opinion 🗿
Antagonist I’d say: Makima, Kenny/sukuna and then hells paradise (I haven’t gotten far enough to meet the antagonist yet)
And for artstyle I’d say: jjk(i love how gege draws hands and his fight choreography) HP and then csm
Hells paradise is kinda of hard to judge for me as I haven’t read all of it but I do like it.
Also kinda funny how they’re all animated by mappa
And Mappa legit got all of them lmao
The dark big three of the modern era
The Dark Trio's writing is absolutely beautiful. The depth, the foreshadowings and the art styles are amazing and meet AOTs standards. Their writing is perfect especially with writing gender, women aren't just purely their to be objectified and fan service. The womans sex appeal adds depth and are actually strong written women with backstories and strength
Aot‘s writing is trash. All 3 manga in the dark trio are better
We have the big 3, we have the Dark Trio. And we also Have the MOST ANNOYING SOUNDED TRIO WITH ASTA'S SHOUTING, DEKU'S CRYING AND TANJIRO'S BSNESS. JK
I never really found anything annoying about tanjiro tbh. I can def see the other 2 though 😂
Tanjiro is just samurai Jesus
Maybe that sounds pretentious but that’s my interpretation
i hate that jigokuraku is so much less popular than the other two, cause imo its wayyy better than jjk and csm
They all rank about the same to me. Each offering something that the other manga don’t possess.
How the hell did man's have scenes from an ep that just dropped 😭
Personally, I hate chainsaw man. The manga just went so out of control for me that I don't look forward to the new Saga Or season 2 of the anime. But this video has given me the motivation to start Hell's paradise and catch up with jjk manga.
To be honest, I found Chainsaw Man easier to understand than Hell's Paradise, but I think they're both great stories anyway.
Jjk got boring fast in the manga i don't even know if the part I'm in is the past or present or a memory or side story bruh
Finished csm and hell's paradise
Please read Fire Punch
Its best story I've ever read
Easily covers all big dark trio
I’ve read it. I think it’s a great first manga for an author but I do think chainsaw man is an improvement.
@@kenmaru777 I love it fire punch don’t get me wrong. I just think it kinda stumbles at the start, towards the end and specifically the actual ending is what makes the manga amazing to me.
I think that manga are about as deep as the person reading makes them. So I can respect if someone thinks fire punch is deeper than chainsaw man or vice Versa
@@WalkingTheShelf haha, a lot of anitubers I know actually hate the ending 😅
They see in FP a idea of nihilism
When I didn't thought about this ever while reading
This is a best part
Its so open for interpretation
I read from comments about Agni losing his fire when his vengeance disappeared
And his right arm (fir punch) disappeared too
Also he recovers only when people say him to LIVE
Anyway people would love love love ang video about this manga believe me
So if you want to make it, we will be happy
i seen all three, but i like HP the most
A tier list for the dark trio would be
Jjk
Chainsaw Man
Hells paradise.
But I love all of them (didn’t read hells paradise though) and they are very close on the list
why do you say "i love them all" when you havent even read hells paradise lmao
you cant have an opinion on something you don't know
lmao CSM does have a large cast of characters, but they never live long so it seems more focused XD
People say it’s the dark trio and realize that Bleach and Naruto has a dark history as well 😂
Hell's Paradise is awesome 😎
A modern classic
@@WalkingTheShelf can't disagree 😁👍
Hell's paradise overshadowed eventhough its the best of the trio the final fight kinda reminds me od the demon slayer muzan fight and every character is lovable except shu bro's a bitch
It will have an anime too❤
It definitely deserves more hype
the Godfather: Yu Yu Hakusho, the Inspiration.
the Father: Bleach, the Icon.
the Elder Bro: Hell's Paradise Jigokuraku, the Artistic.
the Middle Bro: Jujutsu Kaisen, the Star.
the Younger Bro: Chainsaw Man, the Dog.
Damn I never agreed with someone to this extent
Less goo
And they Are all animated rn😊
the dark trio is the coolest (first time hearing it) name tho
As somebody who got into the series with the anime adaptation out of all of them I felt like chainsaw man was the most lackluster like I didn't feel that thrill like I did with the other two Even after reading some of the manga for each of them
