Straight up. Justin Cook elevated that character even more than I think he would’ve been with anyone else. As much as I love Goku, I can totally take different people voicing him. I can’t handle ANYONE else playing Yusuke.
Yusuke and Shulk and Ichigo and Nero are some of my favorites MCs. He isn’t just some basic generic MC who is clueless and just.. friendly. He’s a punk with a good heart. And I FRICKING LOVE HIM as a character.
Idk if you can tell...I like Bleach😊 HXH was my top 1 for a bit. Then I saw yu yu Hakusho and loved it. I stopped it. Bleach grabbed me and ain't letting go soon. I started it back up....and now I can say.........KUBO STOLE FROM YUYU😂 But its never a .1 to 1 with ichigo/yuskuke. They are one of the best MC's the sad part is yuskuke, ichigo, gintoki never get the Credit...like Naruto or luffy. And it's DAM shame those three are the unsung heros
“I want to stop and grow up again” isn’t a stretch though. Watch it till the end and you’ll see during the last couple episodes that the whole show was supposed to be us watching the already recorded Spirit World Files on Yusuke’s life. The Ogre George is the Narrator, and the whole show is footage of the story of Yusuke’s life so you’re watching him growing up (which already happened) and at the end it says “Thank You for Waking Me Up.” Because it was due to that second chance that he got to live the adventure and story they are telling to you. The whole show is a masterpiece and beautifully done. No other anime compares to this one to me.
Love this interpretation. Though to clarify I was more saying my analysis was a stretch, when I was writing the script I couldn't exactly put it into words lol
I feel, that the second verse of Smile Bomb can be about him wanting a second chance. But also not knowing how to and/or accept help from other. Last line show how he is starting to grow thanks to the knowledge that others care for him.
nice to see someone give yusuke his flowers . i just finished my annual rewatch of yyh and i definitely felt that smile bomb is told from yusuke’s perspective
Did you just say yuskue is not a complex character? A big part of his character is that he has many layers to his personality and that his not straight forward with himself or others.
Well, I think it’s fair to say that at the beginning, he’s a fairly simple character. That’s what makes the ending of the show so satisfying. You got to watch these complex layers develop organically over time.
Really appreciate this video. I just finished watching YYH fully and this story and characters just feel so organic and real and its weird with all the anime ive watched this one felt different i cant explain it
Biggest and sweetest anime punk asshole. Truly translates so well feeling the most real / human of any main character with all his flaw and internal barriers. "You can't end a good party without someone on the floor." - Yusuke Urameshi
The fight against heie doesn’t just show that he’s a lucky fighter, but he has learned heie’s fighting style enough to know which way he would dodge his spirit gun and aim for the mirror in such a way to deflect it in the right direction. Yes it’s lucky he didn’t just bust the mirror, but everything else there was extremely impressive.
You could have just summed it with maturing. Yusuke was 14 when the series started and had few life experiences and by the series conclusion he lived a life worth living. Character analysis was very convoluted.
Loved the vid bro. Recently finished yyh for the first time and it's become one of my all time favs already, and i've been consuming content like this about yyh a lot lately. I know it came after, but I watched bleach first, and yyh and bleach (ichigo and yusuke) actually got a decent amount of parallels between them The danny phantom parallel is also real lmao
Thanks for the support and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! And yeah you can definitely tell there are a lot of similarities with YYH characters and a lot of characters that came after its finish
I think you explained Yusuke's character in Yu Yu Hakusho completely well! You get 9.5/10 points! To be honest, I do think there are a lot of main and supporting characters that are misunderstood and underrated but there are qualities that make them special and important. At least, that is my opinion!
I liked Yusuke a lot pretty early on. It was easy to like him. The only other main characters that I found that interesting are Edward Elric and Gintoki Sagata (yes, both very different from each other and Yusuke but they all represent different character traits I just enjoy seeing)
10:56 No, the best line in anime history comes from Dragon Ball Super Random pleb: tries to shoot Goku with a missile Future Trunks: Hold your fire! This man isn't Black! No you don't get context.
I'll fully admit to being a sap when it comes to music... always have been, probably always will be, and thats probably why I became a musician. But I'm somebody found It difficult to cry at my own Grandfathers funeral (somebody I was pretty close to at that), yet EVERY TIME I hear Smile Bomb, I can't help but tear up with this rush of emotion. I cannot rationally explain why. Perhaps its because this show has a deep connection to my childhood? But this song has always had this effect on me. You were absolutely killing me when you went through and played each segment. Every time you'd pause, I'd compose myself like "I'm not crying... Ok I'm good" while you dissect the segment. Then you'd start playing it again and it would happen. Never fails, lmao.
(OH then you're gonna hate me for this LOL) doing this video made me realize how popular Smile Bomb is, so much so that I learned someone used a orchestral version of it as their walking down the aisle song at their wedding
Lol thats funny. I actually almost always HATE main characters.. And always have.. Usually drawn more to the like Hiei and Kurama types of character(s). Yusuke is really the only one I can think of off the top of my head that I legit like/love. Like for example Naruto, Dragon Ball, and etc., I hate the main character(s) - Naruto, Goku, etc.
2 of his Villains Toguro and Sensui wanted themselves killed. If they went all out from the very beginning Yusuke would be dead as fried chicken. His fists are rated E for everyone though so that kinda makes it up and he truly has a good heart.
@@GrandmasterFive That is true but I think he still was kinda holding back at first. He could have literally vaporized him he moment they met as Yusuke, Kurama and Heie were useless to him and only Kuwabara had any actual use. Considering he was an S class and at this time Team Urameshi were still on the upper B class maybe barely A. This was evidenced by Sensui inner monologuing during their battle when Yusuke was revived just before Raizen possessed him. But it is true he did finally dispose of Yusuke.
@@strongsuccessfulweeb1400 yeah I completely agree. Sensui DID want to die. He even expressed his gratitude as he was dying. But whereas Toguro had a soft spot for Yusuke, and kept giving him chances, Sensui was willing to kill Yusuke if he proved he wasn’t strong enough to finish Sensui. But I 100% agree that Yusuke should have been obliterated by both characters lol
“If I had to guess Yuske is worried about his friend, and he didn’t really go to that arcade” “You OBVIOUSLY don’t know Yuske” *cuts to Yuske in the arcade*
The pinnacle of Yusuke being an idiot and being rewarded for it is when he offers his life to the mirror. His stated reason is that it's because he's seen what happens when a mother mourns over their dead son. Amazingly, he doesn't think about how forfeiting his life will cause his mother to mourn over him *again*! And then the show does a cop out and doesn't take Yusuke's life because he was so selfless.
Great video and very well said. Although there have been a lot of good animes in recent years most of them lack this very thing as you say, the protagonist sucks cause there's barely any actual showcasing/development due to plot driving priority. Yusuke is always best and YYH still remains king of anime for me!
