    I think the problem with Yuji is he's one of those MCs that doesn't actually have solid ties that can be played off of. His friends from high school are just mob characters and he never mentions his grandfather at all after the first arc. We don't even know much about what their relationship was like which is a bit weird since Yuji was raised by him. He plays off of Megumi and Nobara but we don't get a lot of them interacting or building strong bonds from the reader's perspective.
    Meanwhile Gojo's story is built off of his relationship to Geto. Megumi's is built off of his relationship to Gojo, his dad, and his sister. And even Yuta has a strong bond with Gojo, his classmates, and Rika.
    This makes Yuji very difficult to write which is probably why the Junpei arc happens because otherwise he has no real stakes in the story. So to me he's just kind of a walking plot device and a lot of times it feels like he's just there because Sukuna can be pulled out as a card to build tension. I hope something is done but it kind of feels too late in the story for that to happen.

      @anthonygomez3915 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@masonfason8925 my opinion comes from how Gege went about sidelining Yuji. Almost every shonen does something where other characters get more shine over the mc during some arcs but the mc usually still have some type of agency where their choices still affect the world around them. What I was trying to convey was that Yuji has gotten sidelined and made irrelevant so hard to the point that I don’t really see how Yuji can get a power amp that is big enough to make him relevant again without a massive lore dump all at once. And using your own words, there has been very little shown or explained about Yuji’s cursed technique up to this point. That’s why I can’t see how he can get this big power amp without all of that info being poured on us at once. Also, my opinion also has some to do with the rumors that the manga’s ending is not too far away. If Gege can manage to pull it off then i will happily accept it. I just don’t see any reason to put blind in faith in it though. If the way Gege has written things for Yuji is satisfactory for you so far then great👍.

He has stated that it’s really hard for him to wright Yuji, so I’m assuming he just hasn’t really made Yuji someone that can truly be himself yet. I feel like everything that’s going on right now is just setup for Yuji to take back the story with somewhat “selfish” ambitions. Eventually I do believe he will become one of the strongest (if not THE strongest), but until Gege can formulate an opportunity for Yuji to shine, he can only set it up. That being said Jjk, is extremely non-traditional of an shonen, so we can only wait and see what happens. I disagree on maki and yuta. They both have been fully explored in the manga. They also have set out and achieve their goals at the beginning of the series, yuta has resolved rika and maki and resolved zenin clan. Yuji has a lot to be explored with since he is a self admitted blank slate, megumi has basically been finished too although before the sukuna situation he still had a lot more to be explored, his potential, domain, character etc. Gojo is basically done too, but out of all the characters you mentioned gojo is the only active one.
      Assuming all the characters survived (they wont) gojo is the only one of could theoretically see doing something. Yuji maybe as well, maki, megumin and yuta are too passive in how they act, especially yuta. You can even see this I their actions throughout the series.

I mean it makes it feel more like he's a student, still learning about the world of sorcerers, curse users and cursed spirits, and all that. His fight with Hanami is to me more about him and Todo holding the line (and doing a damn good job) against a special-grade until the staff can come in and handle things. But that's just one example. Gojo does kinda hog the spotlight when he's around because how could he not? He's the strongest sorcerer of the modern era and he's an educator.

    Personally the main character is Gojo, the main story just takes place in the fallout and aftermath.
    I thought about this after the maki come up scene with her clan, it felt like the show as so many main characters, so who is it?
    Yuji? Yuta? Maki? Megumi? In fact it’s none of them, and I think Yuji really understands this in his fight with Mahito in the shibuya arc where he has his whole “I’m not the hero, I have a job to do just like everyone else” speech.
    Basically everything you expect to happen in your typical shonen story happens during the Hidden Inventory Arc, except one key difference: they failed. This failure sparks literally everything that happens in the current time period of Jujutsu Kaisen.

In Shibuya Arc, Yuji has some of the best moments of character writing in the story and have two of the arguably best fights in the series to date. Yuji's character has been deconstructing from the Cursed Womb Arc with every arc after that slowly changing his perspective on what it is to be a sorcerer and getting rid of his hero mindset.

    I really don't understand why they prefer Yuta over Yuji as a protagonist. Yuta's character came full circle in the movie and ever since his reintroduction in the main story he is what he was made out to be: a formidable Jujutsu sorcerers just what Gojo imagined. About his character also Yuji is far more friendly than most of the series characters from the beginning. He's been through so much hardships and we all know he'll meet his end when the story concludes. Yuji's initial goal to save as many people as possible to not die alone will be achieved. Also with the demise of Sukuna less people will suffer because of curse spirits.

      It’s very easy to understand why prefer Yuta over Yuji as a protagonist:
      In the movie where Yuta’s the protagonist he was more enjoyable/interesting than Yuji in the manga, hence why we prefer Yuta. Simple as that…
      Yuta’s character came ‘full circle’ because Gege wrote it that way, he wasn’t expecting Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to be a ongoing serialised manga. Had he it not, Yuta would’ve been the protagonist and his arc would’ve stretched out longer.
      Anyways, I’m not caught up in the manga but Yuta can still get development. He probably is now you just weren’t paying attention because it’s not about power.

    • @Grayson-Winchester
      @Grayson-Winchester 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FlexStyleZ it is easy to understand why people prefer Yuta over Yuji because he feels more the archetyp of a overpowered protagonist that outshines most of the cast with his amount of curse energy/chakra/reiatsu/demon slayer mark.
      In the movie Yuta is more enjoyable and interesting because that's the legitimate start of the franchise within the universe itself. If we started with Maki, Toge or Panda it clearly wouldn't have been.
      "Akutami wasn't expecting Jujutsu Kaisen as a ongoing serialised manga" you say that like it's a bad thing. It's more due to Akutami's talent as a writer. Volume 0 laid the groundwork for Akutami's actual success. Yet Jujutsu Kaisen was originally supposed to when Yuji died the first time in episode 5.
      Yuta's arc couldn't have been stretched out because there was no overacting danger. The disaster curses only came into play because of Kenjaku and his main objective was Gojo. Yuta went overseas to train and refine his techniques. So it was a plausible solution for him not being a Japan since other jujutsu sorcerers needed to evolve. Season 1 as we know it wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Yuji.
      Yuji consuming Sukuna's finger triggered a beacon for special grade curses to pop up out of nowhere. Why do you think they held up the tornument with Kyoto high school? The situation became so worse that those teens needed to evolve even faster now.
      Lastly you admitted to not being caught up to the manga so you can't jude the difference between Yuji's and Yuta's influence within the story itself. Even characterwise Yuji is far more sympathetic than Yuta
      Yuta isn't that shy, anxious little boy anymore yet Yuji's relationships with other characters are more genuine. You're right it's not solely about power and in this regard Yuji exeeds Yuta.

    • @FlexStyleZ
      @FlexStyleZ 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@Grayson-Winchester Yuta’s not a archetype of a overpowered protagonist (that’s Gojo). I like him because he’s the opposite: He was this scared timid loser who was getting bullied and needed Rika to protect him. Yuta struggled with depression, loneliness, a existential crisis- he had no reason to live or a reason to live for. He metaphorically created Rika because of how her death traumatised him.
      He managed to grow into a more confident, reliable, independent young man who’s now the 2nd strongest Jujutsu sorcerer.
      The issue isn’t that ppl like Yuta, Gojo, Megumi etc. more. It’s that Yuji just isn’t as interesting for a protagonist. Someone mentioned Gon as a similar example and this is why Gon is still beloved as HxH MC despite disappearing in the current manga:
      Gon drives the plot. We follow him on his journey to find his father and there’s side goals he wants to achieve along the way. Even when Gon isn’t on-screen he feels like the MC because of his presence. Gon learns new techniques and grows/matured over the course of the story.
      Yuji is the opposite: Yuji doesn’t drive the plot, his goal is he wants to protect his friends. When Yuji isn’t on screen no one’s checking for him- he’s just *there* and gets outshined by so many characters, and if there’s a problem we know there’s Gojo around to handle it. Yuji lacks the presence a MC should have. Yuji hasn’t gone through the same growth. Yuji has no bag. Like why should I favour Yuji?

He won't be in a condition to counter whatever Kenjaku is doing while Gojo is fighting Sukuna. Megumi? He's in a fucked position. Sukuna ruined his body, and his sister is dead. Yuta? Gege already said that Yuta's story ended with JJK0. Furthermore, there's a lot more going on with Yuji than the other characters. He has direct ties to Kenjaku, the main antagonist. I believe the way Yuji's character is being developed has purpose; Yuji's moments of growth have always had long periods in-between, and each time they happen he does something unbelievable. When the big bad shows itself and all seems lost Yuji will step in and do the thing no one else can, not even Gojo or Sukuna. Yuji's character was never supposed to be overwhelming like Sukuna or unstoppable like Gojo, he was made to struggle and be underestimated.

    I think it's just bad writing and too many people are just trying to reach for things that aren't there to explain why Yuji even exists in the first place. You can still have a main character, where the story doesn't revolve around their "Arc" or their "Story".
    But usually how that's handled is, you still have the MC participating in another character's Arc or Story. The whole "Story" doesn't have to be about the MC's story, but the part he played in the "Story".
    Just look at "The Hobbit". Bilbo is the main character, but it's ultimately Thorin's story that is being told and advertised. So it's basically Bilbo's perspective and story of being part of Thorin's Quest.

      I guarentee that at the end of the Gojo vs Sukuna fight, they'll reveal that Gojo pushed his technique way past the limit and nerf him in a significant way (not that that's a bad thing, if he's still at 100% post sukuna fight, the protagonists would be able to wipe Kenjaku.)

    A JJK video about Yuji, I'm shocked I tell you.
    Anyway I know this video was likely recorded prior to the recent stream where this was brought up, but the Kenjaku connection Yuji will also be important for his story going forward regardless of how the Sukuna fight ends. Yuji's role as an MC is not quite done, it's just taking a side step with this current fight.

Now i do agree that gojo steals the show alot alongside some others but i still think its a good thing other than just ignoring every other character and having the full focus on yuji

    Am I the only one that sees it that way?
    He hasn't even absorbed all of the cursed objects... I'm totally invested in seeing how that plays out. Will Gojo be forced to stop Sukuna... Will Yuji come up with new and creative ways to suppress Sukuna... Will Gojo's gift shift from focusing on his power to empowering Yuji to overcome Sukuna... How will this progress with each "finger"? lol
    That's the itch I feel like I need to scratch SOOOOO bad.

    i like when the main character isn't the strongest/main driving force in a story because it's an unrealistic idea to have one person pushing everything forward or back and I feel jjk does a really good job of telling people that if you aren't born special in some way you'll be killed and basically will hit your limit (most people being grade 1.) Special grade is reserved for best of the best/inate talent/born with the ability to sway the balance of the world unless you sacrifice some element of yourself you will basically be fodder in jjk world which I honestly kinda fuck with it makes sense given the world they live in has been expressed many times as a cut throat world so having the strongest of two time periods alive now and fighting it out makes sense we can't have anyone but that special grade peak to fight right now. I think it also helps humble the characters and even shows the reader that the characters in the story rely on gojo to much (it's why I think he will lose) gojo breaking free only to die or be severely punished and weakened would show the characters they need to seriously get stronger and stop relying on gojo as their trump card which in part has been done already but not fully I feel as gojo is still present in the story as a major power house

    Jjk is the type of story where the main character shifts from arc to arc, the more try to put it in a box the more confused you’ll be, Yuji was the main character til Sukuna escaped, now hes more of a side character til the focus is back on him.

      @@ryanmacharika3946 I wouldn’t say 15-17 chapters is a few, but im referring to how Gege writes, the story didn’t actually start with Yuji, it started with Yuta, now in season 2 Gojo is the main character for hidden inventory, and across the culling game main perspective shifted every 10 chapters or so, hopefully Yujis character and ability set develops more, cause if he doesn’t awaken some type of ability him fighting Sukuna will just be boring. While yuji is the main character hes not the entire center of the story, who’s skilled enough to defeat sukuna is way more important than who gets to do it, I’d rather Sukuna lose to Gojo than to Yuji who cant learn a CT and doesn’t have 1.

    I think its basically confirmed at this point that he ain't, if you looked at the Shonen Jump cover a while back, it showed all the series with their main character and most having 2 side characters next to them, but the newer series only had MC and 1 side character, and One Piece was in front with Luffy with Zoro and Sanji on his sides and Chopper in front. But there was Deku in the middle with Bakugo and Todoroki on his sides, Asta in the middle with Yuno and Noelle on his sides, you get the picture. Anyway, for JJK it had Gojo in the middle with Yuji and Yuta on his sides. Not the most concrete evidence, but it was drawn by Gege, so thats about as close to conformation that, atleast at this point in time, Gojo is the MC of JJK
