Thanks for putting this out! It’s nice to have a concise how to play video to send new folks when trying to get people into the game. I did notice that When discussing initiative dice you say that you roll 5 dice when you actually roll 6. All of the examples that you use have the correct amounts of dice though.
I'm actually thinking of getting into Warcry and I think the biggest issue starting Warcry is that the official starter set is not good. Especially when you compare it to Kill Team which I'm also looking into. There's so many things I could do to start and I'm trying to be the most cost effective, but the way GW puts stuff out, it's not friendly. Again, especially when you compare it to Kill team. Trouble is, I think that Warcry is more my speed right now even as I like the 40K models more. I've never played a GW game before and this is a weird position to be in.
How much it will cost to get into the game really depends on how you want to play and if you'll need terrain or not. To start I'd recommend any of the warcry one box warbands as they are the quickest way to get into the game if you've got a playgroup who already has the terrain and warbands of their own. The rules are all free (unlike killteam) so it's mostly just that box of guys in terms of cost.
@@OffMetaMusings Yeah, unfortunately I have no appropriate terrain. I'm a mainly AMG player and so my Crisis Protocol and Shatterpoint terrain is out of scale and not very thematic. I'm trying to trade Shatterpoint for Warcry right now, so we'll see. It seems to me like getting a one box team and maybe a friend getting a one box team along with the new terrain set might be the easiest way to go.
@@OffMetaMusings about the one box warbands, are you referring to single faction warbands or boxed sets? I'm thinking of starting but I'm completely new and have no terrain. I'm torn between building an AoS warband and buying a box from a bespoke army. On the one hand I would love to build a Kharadron Overlords army, but it's so easy to pick up a box of Horns of Hashut.
Ah, I'm talking about any of the specifically warcry branded warbands (ex. Wildercorps Hunters, Rotmire Creed, etc.). I suggest you check out my other video here which talks about the different ways to start and gives some insight into the different factions; th-cam.com/video/kyrFyIriCyc/w-d-xo.html
@@dwarrenmsp I've seen some posts of great home/handmade terrain. You don't need to use the official terrain at all. Warcrier is a really great resource for rules, play scenarios etc.
Did you ever make a similar video about the narrative play? I was looking for some good video tutorial and can't find anything. Maybe it would be a good idea for a new video :)
Awesome video to show my friends. Trying to get them to join me in warcry. What would you say the best terrain would be. Even its non gw as actually warcry terrain seems hard to come by
I would say anything with some verticality to it where fighters can jump/climb up onto it. Warcry is also played best imo with a relatively lot of terrain; it adds to the theme of the game and makes the movement stat more important.
My buddy and I played our first game of Warcry yesterday and ran into a question: he had a bowman that wanted to shoot through one of his allies and into my Rotmire Creed guy. We weren’t sure if you could shoot through allies like that. Thoughts?
Yes that's allowed as long as the target is visible (you can draw a line from any part of the shooter to any part of the target). Thematically it represents his buddy calling on his friend to duck out of the way so that the fighter can make the shot
If an ability has 3 rune marks, for example the Nighthaunt ability 'Sentenced to Eternal Torment' it has the Nighthaunt runemark, the Hero runemark, and the Destroyer runemark. Does that mean the unit has to have all three of them? Or just two of them (either Nighthaunt mark + Hero or Destroyer)? Similarly for Stolen Hours Nighthaunt + Hero + Champion.
All heresay and rumor in my opinion. If i believed them then surely I'd be a Killteam channel instead XD I did a whole video on those rumors here: th-cam.com/video/gQ-hUAi8jBo/w-d-xo.html
@@philthymofo Thanks. I managed to pick up a copy of the 1st edition rulebook for $3, so waiting for that to arrive. Determined to play this game but not going to spend $210 on two war bands I won't play with.
It actually works pretty well; either you use your dice to make doubles/triples/etc for your abilities or you make singles to choose activation priority

Great video. Perfect length / amount of info. Thanks heaps
Great video! I love everything you do for our community and the variety of videos you put out.
Glad you enjoy it!

This is a godsend. Thanks for doing this!
Thank you very much for the tutorial ! Very valuable for a beginner.
Separate question, what is the music that you used in the video? Thanks!
It's called 'The Awakening' by Patrick Patrikios. Available on the TH-cam audio library

Yes that's right. To use ab ability you need all the runemarks listed on the card

The cards aren’t sold outside of the starter sets?
Unfortunately that's the case by the looks of things.
there are sites that allow you to make your own cards for printing, as well as a bunch of premade cards that are links to at war crierdotnet

Odd Kruleboyz - Monsta Killaz aren't on the Warhammer Community Warcry army list builder.
I'd check out Warcrier instead :)
Their list builder has not been updated for almost a year at this point
Yeah. But like. How do I get good options for skaven without breaking the bank? Lol.
haha, aside from buying skabbik, a stormfiend (or two) and stormvermin?
I would wait to see what happens with the AoS 4e box launch, see if we get new warcry rules for skaven
What kind of drunk chipmunk came up with that utterly ridiculous initiative system?
