Is Vokey SM10 better than SM9 or is it ALL spin?

  • The Titleist Vokey SM9 and SM10 are both popular wedge models designed specifically for golfers who prioritise precision and control around the greens. While they share many similarities, there are a few key differences to note.
One noticeable difference between the SM9 and SM10 is the design of the clubhead. The SM10 wedges have slightly larger profiles compared to the SM9, allowing for a bit more confidence at address and generating additional confidence for many players. This progressive shaping in the SM10 wedges helps improve the overall look and feel of the club and can enhance the player's confidence in executing their shots.
Another significant difference is the availability of different finishes. The SM9 wedges offered the option of a traditional chrome finish and a matte black finish2. However, with the launch of the SM10, players now have an additional option of a new nickel finish3. This gives golfers more variety in terms of aesthetics and allows them to select a wedge that suits their personal preference.
It's worth noting that while the SM9 and SM10 have their differences, they both deliver exceptional performance and offer multiple loft, bounce, and grind options to cater to individual playing styles and course conditions. Ultimately, the choice between the SM9 and SM10 depends on personal preference and what features are most important to the golfer's game.

if you consider standard deviation the wedges are (predictably) identical, its pretty hard for them to improve on a vokey, hasnt really changed in 20 years, cheers for the video!

Glad you liked it. With wedges there is very little that is possible within the rules but we are certainly seeing a slightly lower launch on short pitches with SM10

@@Precision_Golf Are you delivering the same dynamic loft with both?

Impressive to see the improvement in spin consistency. I’ve played around with the 56 S grind. I’ve always though is the S sat a bit flat and was difficult to hit a lower flighted shot with. The SM10 version is much better.

Just picked up a set of 9’s with 48-10F, 54-10S and 60-08M on a heck of sale considering the 10’s are being released.
First time having a legit set of wedges and man what a difference it has made in my game. Have played 5 rounds with them now and it’s almost surgeon like how deadly accurate you can be with them.

So important to dial in the wedges!

There is a 2 degree difference in the attack angle with the 56, makes a difference in the numbers

Sadly we are human and not robots but we do our best. The 60 degree data was as good as identical though and we still saw a similar difference

Did Titleist sort out that ridge on the T Grind ? Or does it still need a little grinding ?

It is still there so for some players do need it “softening”

Great video. Liked and subscribed. Are the bounce and grind universal across all wedges? Reason I ask is I currently have Callaway Jaws MD5 Wedges with 10S, would it also be 10S with Vokey Wedges?

I had a 54S in the callaway, I ended up in a 54F in the Vokeys

They are not completely. An S grind tends to be the same across all brands but then done will call an M grind a C grind etc so as a start point it is best to reference bounce number and to look at the progression of the sole shape in order to compare them

How many shots per round are we losing by using the stock S200 shafts than the S400 shafts the pros use ;)

your attack angle was like 3 degrees different on the 56 sm10 and sm9... you cant say the different cg is the cause f different launch angle lol just sayin

On the 56 I agree as AofA was steeper with SM10 but on the 50 the AofA was steeper on SM9 and it was the same launch instead of lower and AofA was identical on the 60 and SM10 launched lower and span at least as much so more spin per degree of launch. Ultimately this is human testing not a robot so there are some variables but 2 out of 3 times the SM10 produced lower launch with the same or more spin without AofA help so we feel a definite progression in performance. We appreciate you highlighting to keep things as honest as possible!
