Fairway Wood Fitting (Tom Fits) - 15 Handicap Simon Peters
No offense intended but Alex needs more of an instruction then club fitting. For starter, he needs to understand the principles of Low Point and Ball Contact to at least get the essentials of face control first to get a better dispersion. With 90mph for 6 iron and just a hair slower the PGA average, it is a shame he is leaving lots on the table as he continues to play army golf.
I notice when you address the ball you have the club set up nowhere near the ball. Is their a reason you do this? I know a guy called moe Norman used to have the club way behind the ball. 👍
It is not a conscious thing - I can only assume I moved slightly further from the ball for strike (I’ve never suffered from shanks though) and now it is a bit of a swing trigger. Now Moe Norman really is a legend of ball striking!!
@@Precision_Golf I do the opposite because of shank's. I address the ball from the hosel knowing I shank because my hands go out. If they go out if I address the ball from the hosel I'll miss the ball! Thanks for the reply mate👍
What a swing 👌
😎
132g for his gamer shaft??? You’ve got to be joking!
They were but changing soon!
Would a good player compensate for the wrong weighted shaft?
They would have to but shouldn’t have to. The swing change to accommodate a particular club may very well impact on another part of the bag.
He sounds like the guy from the Golfing Focus channel.
Were the blades MP32s?
Yes. Beautiful clubs!
I thought Matthew Fitzpatrick had aged abit
World class is an understatement! What a great fitting and such a good watch. Well done to the fitter and client. Do you also find the some width has a major impact on results? I always tend to hit irons with a narrower sole work better for me.
Very kind, thank you and so glad you enjoyed it. Sole width can have a big impact on strike consistency - if narrower suits you then likely to be a shallower delivery
Great swing 👏
Thanks Pete
I understand people swing and deliver the club differently. But I find I generate a lot of spin with both the 100 and 150 heads. That's with a kbs tour v shaft and a DG s300 or x100 shaft.. 🤔
The T100 are certainly a higher spinning head and whilst less spin the T150 are not a low spinning head compared to a lot of other brands
Come and live in Glasgow Simon.
Son’s great golf up there for sure!
Some not Son’s!
Brilliant video 👍👍 how would you go about changing the weight in his current irons 🤔 this just shows that it's not all about fitting a person into New clubs especially with the price of clubs these days 😞 fantastic by PG ❤
Thanks Dave. The shaft weight change was the big key from Graeme
You faked him out with that handshake at 0:02😭😭
We see a world class fitting every time a new one comes up on the channel! 🏆
Thanks Chris. Very kind of you
Can’t wait till this becomes mainstream and I can play a more traditional club with great consistency and soft feel . Must be a more efficient way of making clubs.
It will be eventually but still very early days for that process so a little while yet before it is mainstream and cost effective
Pure class, what a service
Thanks Lee!
Thanks again for the great information..See you all next video..
Really appreciate it
Great always good to watch
Thanks Kevin
I'm looking forward to my own world-class fitting on Friday with Tom B! I can't wait! Driver and wegdes sorted at Precision back in 2021 and now for the irons.
Thanks Simon. See you on Friday
Why do you keep the club head away from the ball at address? What’s the idea behind that? Looks like it’s a few inches away from centre of clubhead
It is! :) it’s a 30 year old habit
Simon's knowledge is so impressive!!!
As good as I’ve seen 👌
I completely agree Gents. JAMES
Would be interested to catch a comparison between the NX Green and the Old favorite Motore Speeder 7.2 vc
I have this shaft and I’m starting to hit my drives low I was wondering if it was caused by it or is it me😂
When you miss hit a blade in winter do your hands still hurt for a few holes 🤷♂️😂
You bet it does!!
Music is top quality.
Thanks Bruce 💪🏼
Thank you, Simon. I called Fujikura to ask about the NX Speeder TCS shaft, which is one of the stock options on the Taylormade Qi10 drivers. They told me it is most like a Vista Pro series 55-60. I had been wondering about the profile/flex in the grip, middle and tip areas. So I think it's probably the same. You haven't by chance been able to check out the NX Speeder TCS, have you? (I'm not buying a Qi10, I found a NX Speeder TCS R50 shaft for a very good price and am trying it on my M6 Driver head, when it arrives.)
My very first set of golf clubs was a set of Wilson "progressives" where the 3 iron was a cavity and the 9 iron was a blade. I formed a completely inverted mindset of "cavity - hard to hit" .... "blade - easy to hit" .....have stayed with them ever since. Couldn't live without the feedback.
Great show as always. See you next week
Thanks for watching, see you next week!
Simon, this is as I had hoped! When I first met you (way back) it was as a result of my search for a set of Miura’s - given I’m now several sets of almost the same head down the line my observation is that blades have forced me to seek a better way of striking the ball and if you haven’t tried them, my advice is to buy a set and seek to do the same!
Thanks DB 😎👌🏼👍🏻
great towel routine - even beats the broom
Glad to be of service 😎😁
Tops as always chaps 👌
Thanks Mowser 👍🏻
What a great video. Super informative, let alone impressive ball striking skills. Thanks Simon. 🙏🏻
Many thanks Nick
Looking forward to my putter fitting on Friday, will be my 5th visit i think for various things and love the studio, facilities and personal touch with solid expertise. First came to you as a 12 handicap a few years back, now off 5, trending in the right direction thanks in no small part to the equipment i get from you guys 👍🏻
Great effort reducing your handicap by that much. Very happy to play a part helping you!
Great watching the show each week although I have to watch it after it has streamed. I have a question re what is meant when a club is described as being forgiving. My understanding is that this refers to the extent of any drop in performance on mishits but is there also any implication for how the contact might feel? Of course mishits won't feel as good as if the ball were hit in the middle of the sweet-spot but can a club feel really clunky as a result of a mishit but still be considered forgiving in terms of loss of performance?
Those first were center strikes? Weren’t they 8mm and 15mm towards the heel each? Your toe strikes with the blade were more center than your center strikes??
The sweet spot in a blade is actually slightly heel side of centre which is why the strike point from the absolute centre of the club head is actually a slight toe miss
@@Precision_Golf Makes perfect sense…I guess we know now why I prefer blades…I tend to hit a little heely…
Simon, congratulations to your anniversary!
Many thanks 🙏🏼
90.1mph first try… Just call him Iron Simon! 🤖
@@toddadcock I was quite proud of that one!!
Can you compare KBS TGI vs Steelfiber vs Axiom? In the 80 grms range. For a swing speed with the 7 iron of 75-80 mph. Thanks a lot
It’s the golfer not the club, learn to forgive yourself, You think you can, but NO
Your comment about learning to forgive yourself is a great phrase for all golfers no matter what standard!
More accurate with ai smoke tho
It’s slightly better off centre
Whats the grit and type of the sanding belt u r using?
No grit on the ferrule belt, we either use a cloth belt or black durabrite belt
Tried cavities but hate the top line. I'm mid handicap but have a few sets of blades ranging from Hogan red lines from 1970's thru to srixon pro 100 but play my Titleist ZM-B as my main clubs. Won't swap any of them for any modern irons
Your timing is ironic having just got back from visiting grandkids. My son has my Nike VR Pro Combo set with S300 shafts in them. Never fails, I pure them every time I touch them. Bought a ZX5 and ZX7 Combo and strike the ZX7’s better in my opinion. Around here fitters will look at your handicap instead of what suits you IMO. Love what you guys do. Take care. My best, NWH
Thanks Mr Warhound! Got to understand the player and work to that rather than just handicap!
Very interesting. It looks like you've got a piece of lead tape high across the back of the blade. How would that have affected forgiveness? By the way, I'm really looking forward to getting my new irons from you after last week's fitting with Tom. 😁
No affect at all, just for fine tuning swingweight. Thanks so much for watching and for coming in!
Fitters shrug their shoulders whenever you ask to be fitted for blades, ask your handicap, then go on about how tour players aren't even using them. Shaft choice is really important. Iron shafts don't droop as much with blades as in tungsten filled heads as there's no weight in the toe, so for example, a 620Mb on a KBS tour goes left, and a T100 on a KBS Tour goes straight. Same loft and lie.
It really does affect strike point and some players really do find strike better with a less forgiving head but you also have to find out what someone plays for - that feedback of a centred strike is addictive!!
Yet again grest video do you play with blades?
Thank you! I do and have done for 30 years. I enjoy the process of ball striking and find that satisfaction of strike something that I really enjoy and play for and can give up some forgiveness to get that feedback. Maybe why I didn’t earn much money playing though!!
Yes. Next 😂😂
Thanks for watching it though!
@@Precision_GolfI had a fitting last year and tried Titliest 630 blades and the strikes off the centre were absolutely amazing! Like butter! Just incredibly soft off the face. However my misshits with the blades were really quite unforgiving to the tune of 50-60 yard difference between the good and bad strikes. but yeah, the good strikes were just amazing! However I settled for the T150’s in the end 😊
@@boswellwhanau sounds like a good decision. Golf ultimately is about how good your misses are!!
Have switched between CB, Blades and Power Bats over the last 6 years. Currently switch between MP20 and i530’s having used Titelist 716 MB/CB combo. Now only use irons from 6-9i then move into wedges. Interestingly my miss is typically heel side. Found while the stronger more forgiving irons go further my GIR stats have changed very little with either Blades or more forgiving clubs. Played a season with the Mizuno HMB but found that the dispersion front to back was not as consistent and prone to getting a low spin knuckle ball especially off a low tee. Less of an issue with the i530’s which I have found to be very stable and consistent once you get past the “feel” thing.
Everything you say is spot on. The i530 are a good head for performance but not as much feel
This needs to said.
Thanks for watching!
Timely, as im replacing a set of Bridgestone J33 with either the JPX923 Tour, Srixon ZX7 or Titleist 620 irons@@Precision_Golf
great dilemma, i use blades but my mental game is shit so im basically trying to fix my swing after every minor mishit that ended up 7-10 yards short. maybe i need to switch to something more forgiving to give me the confidence of good strikes. at the end the mental aspect of the sport is the most difficult to master(for me).
Totally hear you. Blades require you to accept the miss hit comes up short so the more forgiving head should mean you aren’t so hard on yourself but you don’t need to change head style too much to see a difference!
