As an Exosister user since day 1 and someone who has become obsessed with their lore, maxing out rarities is something I have thought about, but honestly, meticulously creating custom playmats around the Exosister lore has taken this obsession to a whole new level.
Really love their art and playstyle. One of my top 5 favorites for sure. I'm very curious about the playmats. Do you mean making your own art of Exos and putting it on a mat and coming up with your own lore?
Their lore is awesome. The new Card Game Art Work book goes even further into it. Stuff like Martha giving Elis her necklace, etc. I have the 2022 Yokohama YCS Sleeves, Playmat, and Gibrine Secret Rare set. I use them exclusively when I play Exosister.

I've mostly been using the bulk commons and foils I've had sitting around for years to afford these upgrades. It helps me lean down the collection and get something nice in return.
I really wish Master Duel had a way to upgrade or craft higher rarity cards guaranteed, because I'm not gonna keep buying packs in the hope of getting them, and I'm not gonna keep crafting cards I already have just for the chance.
It's so annoying because I'd really like Royal finish URs but it just doesn't feel feasible. I think it'd be cool if you could upgrade them after playing the card in a ranked duel X number of times or something. Maybe even trade in like 1000 Gems for a Royal upgrade idk?
I define maxing out as being whatever version of the card I think looks best, so I kinda do it. Usually a secret if available, though Collector's have often taken over since it's debut. Specifically the TCG CRs because while the first couple sets were iffy on quality control, the RA01 copies are lazy. Even with the little melty spots they didn't fix until KICO CRs, Artemis GEIM looks far better than the boring OCG style ones because whoever did them clearly put effort into making it highlight the art. Only time I've actively seen the TCG do something better than the OCG. Beyond that, if anything I more have a rule about downgrading. Unless it's the ONLY copy of the card available currently (or I simply can't find the 4x I want because I hate ordering play and collection sets in pieces) I do not use gold colored rarities on effect monsters, for example, because it looks terrible. If a card only has super/ultra/ultimate I will use the Super. Also, Ghost rares are terrible in general so I avoid them too. I like the art so why would I want it to be not properly visible? Starlights/QCSR/Prismatic Secret (OCG) are pushing the visibility envelope, let alone the cheapo bubble gum trading card foiling circa 1997 on Ghosts. While I agree with your general sentiment of focusing on decks you like, I would argue you shouldn't want to uglify them if you truly like them just to say you have the highest rarity in the deck. You can still own the highest rarity without making it the thing you see regularly. Essentially, general aesthetics are more important. For my Black Rose Dragon deck, for example. I use the Purple URs from LDS2 for the base and Moonlight version despite having the higher rarities because it looks good on the white card and goes with the actual art of BRD better than any other text colors in my opinion.
i don’t really care much for the game and i haven’t played it in any capacity outside of casual games with my little brother, but i love yugioh’s aesthetic and how fun the cards are to look at. i always liked the yugioh manga for how many cool designs it had and the wider game also has a lot of cool archetypes
sadly its an old deck. even tho i hate to say it, but as a branded player myself i have to admit that that deck is not gonna be playable forever. with snake eye we might be able to compete but a deck on that power level is gonna be the standard from now on and the good matchup into fire is pure coincidence
I'm trying to max rarity my pure Solfachord deck. I have all the collectors rares, 2 Coolia, 1 Beautia, Gracia, 2 Fancia. The hardest part is maxing the rarities of staples and generic boss monsters like Appa, but I think most max rarity decks struggle with that. ($800 Starlight rare yikes) I recently bought all the Vaalmonica CRs too. I think the price of them will go up right before the new support comes out, so It's best to buy now imo, but I could be wrong. Either way I love the art and deck so I want to max rarity it.
I fell in love with Solfachords from day 1. Glad to see another fan. In my opinion they're one of if not the cutest decks and so underrated in terms of playstyle. They're all adorable. Hoping one day we get more support for them

Gotta love a good passion project! For me, this project is my character decks and collections. Right now, I’m working on kinda-sorta maxing out my Yugi Muto deck and completing my collection of every card he used in the original manga and YGO! R manga, the second series anime, DSoD, PoL, BBT, and GX. For the deck, I am aiming specifically for Ultra Rares unless the card has never been printed at that rarity (I want the consistency of all the cards being the same rarity, but also … I don’t like the look of most Secret and higher rarities). The only card I’m missing for the deck is GLAS-EN092 Soul Taker, since I’m not willing to drop $1000 on it. 🤣 For the full Yugi collection, I’m only missing around 20 cards, but that includes two Normal Monsters that have never been printed in the TCG as well as some forthcoming OCG cards that will probably be released later this year or next year, such as the YGO! R “Toy Box” monsters. Once I finish with my Yugi deck and collection, I’ll slowly begin moving through my other character decks and try to assemble full collections of those characters’ cards, although I don’t know if I’ll max out rarities. The current decks I have are Kaiba, Joey, Jaden, Yusei, Jack, and Yuma. (Most of my collection was damaged, though not all destroyed, in a house fire, so I’m slowly recovering from that and will probably re-build my lost Pegasus, Marik, Zane, Shark, and Kite decks at some point. But for right now, I’m focusing on the decks that escaped the fire without damage.)
For me I like high rarity staples because they have longevity, so I usually pick those up and then grab min rariry on the deck cores when I pickup new decks.
It's much more affordable if you wait a while and let the cards fall in price. I was surprised to find out recently that Fallen of Albaz and Aluber, the Jester of Despia are only about $17 apiece in Ultimate Rare. Pretty good deal, all things considered!
Almost done maxing out my Dino deck. Loved it when it first came out and paired with True Kings. All I need now is an ulti Laggia to finish off the deck.
I had to stop doing this for the pure cost of it. I could have kept my CR Hydrants but decided I'm better off selling them to build/improve other decks. Helped with getting 3 Wanted.
Still got max rarity dragon rulers put away in a random deck box. Probably been about 10 years since i played a game with it but i absolutely love looking through it from time to time. Shiny cardboard, man!
I picked up a playset of CR snake rains for my birthday. I like playing a reptile pile, idk how seriously I will take it but it is my main/favorite deck so I figured if I will max out anything, that's what deserves it. It might be much more serious once the raika cards come out, who knows
Do you use inner sleeves at all? I’m using outer double sleeves but sometimes it obscures the rarity. Also I’m a big fan of Labrynth too and am recently thinking about picking up VS!
Highly recommend QCR Timethief redoer from rarity collection. Its easy to read and looks great. The xyz's arent too bad in qcr abd that card is pretty reasonably priced.
I max rarity my decks because if I don’t commit a portion of my income to a hobby, the intrusive thoughts start knocking, like “why do I put up with my stressful job”
I don't play all that much anymore, but I'm still always lookin out to max out like my Skull Servant deck whenever possible. Currently, probably working on vampires, I guess? That got some higher rarities and I like spooky things. I don't really have a competitive deck though. :< Maybe if that new wight guy comes out Skullos will return to the meta. That'd fun

I have to types of maxing: Soft maxing where I try to have everything high but limited to secrets (most decks barely goes higher than that) that are actually nice to have (I have full foil small cores like Rikka,Dragonmaid,Time Thiefs, Libromancer or Swordsoul with every card x3 + in foil. Hard maxing with high end rarities but it’s harder and the closest I have of it now is P.U.N.K but even then there can be debatable because some of them are both CR and 25th (I have the CRs)

Have a max rarity marincess, starlight horses ofc but euro foreign marincess cards with the staples to boot, to just dedicate a bunch of love to a deck. Sure it costs a ton, more than what people anticipate, when I could build it for 30 bucks, but that’s nothing compared to all the memories it’s given me.
I do like high rarity cards but, i also enjoy having money in my pocket 😅 I usually go for budget but i dont mind if i can get some cheap rarity upgrades for decks or, if i end up pulling a high rarity card from a pack for a deck I like
You have patience when it comes to getting rarities, I can't run mismatched rarities, and I rarely ever run into people that have what I want, so I end up spending coins. Getting ready to max out the new Lightsworn stuff. Luckily I already had all the old stuff in Ulti.
I still only double sleeve my Extra Deck, but I think I'm gonna start doing the main deck as well. Probably just with inner sleeves because I don't love the HUGE size of a fully double-sleeved deck.

I don’t do this for YGO mainly because I feel like it’s too normalized in this game and makes it lose a bit of that “specialness” for me. I’ve actually been going the opposite direction with my main deck and trying to play all lowest rarities only. And for other decks, I find that I don’t always like the aesthetics of the max rarity versions of certain cards and card types
Very nice and shiny dude. Personally, I just play with secret rares and ultra rares if possible. I would only want collectors or starlights for my personal collection because I wouldn’t want to risk damaging them.
@apsamplifier I pulled a CR Arianna a while back that I'm willing to sell for a decent price. I never played Lab and have no desire to start. Right now, I'm maxing Face Knights and Tistinas. I'd like to max out Sacred Beasts, but I don't wanna take out a loan for them.
The only deck I have is Blue-eyes, and at this point it is unfortunately impossible to max out my deck, as that would require 3 DDS Blue-eyes NM copies lol.

Just one deck. Infernoids. That's it. It's a deck I plan on keeping forever, if in the future I feel like it then maybe Volcanics but since I quit Yugioh I am legit just a fan and collector, no longer a player. I've enjoyed competing but with me going into my career and wanting to be a dad I could only keep one hobby and it was between Jiu Jitsu and Yugioh... So yeah Jiu Jitsu was a must keep and with that I said farewell to Yugioh and I surprisingly have not missed playing because I enjoy watching others play instead.
Never liked holos, mostly got them if that was the only form of the card I could get. I'm mostly into the art and holos usually ruined how the cards looked to me visually >w

As someone that has been in TCG/CCGs for close to 30 years, this is a horrible decision as an adult; unless you have the following: make sure your homeowners or renters policy includes replacement cost coverage for your personal property. Many exceptions exist per policy and you have to make sure you're getting the right coverage for your card collection. Under some policies, you might get screwed out of depreciated value of your property. Make sure you're getting the right coverage. Additionally, make sure you keep all physical records of your purchases and photos to provide on a whim to your insurance company. Be completely truthful about the value of your collection, as there are different brackets for coverage. Yes, expect to pay additional fees for coverage of your collection. For some, maxing out a single deck might not be a big deal, but if you've been playing for a long time (including other card games), you'll be surprised at how much you'll end up spending over the years, much less decades. Remember, all it takes is one bad day. A flood, a fire, or even a burglary can wipe out your entire collection within minutes. If you're serious enough to spend an extra $500 to upgrade to a single ultimate rare card, you shouldn't have issues paying for better homeowner's insurance.
I actually REALLY like them (and Rares) a lot when they're available because the card artwork is so much clearer and more visible. Foils (particularly Supers and sometimes Secrets) can get really dark and muddy. It's a big part of why I loved Tenyi so much.
People like shiny things. Its so funny when people max out rarities and dont go to a local store to play or compete in tournaments and make people see the rarity and their beautiful deck. Instead they never play and just have a deck maxed out of rarity sitting at home.
I get it if they’re collectors but a lot of people max out their deck for locals. The people that don’t go to play probably just like to admire their cards tbh
I don't play this game, but watch these videos occasionally as a lot translates to other games, but foil cards are just hideous. Seeing that what I think he called starlight rare was easily the worst looking foil card I've seen in a while. How are you even supposed to tell what that even is across the table? Whenever I'm making my magic decks, I actually go out of my way to make sure not a single card is foil. I just don't like them or think they look good. They're harder to read and tell what they are and not sure about this game, but they sure as hell do curl for Pokemon and magic which is the biggest turn off for me. Anyone who plays Yu-Gi-Oh feel something similar towards foil cards in the game?
The only answer is “because I can afford to”. Why even make the title about rarity and money. Why not just make it about the decks and then mention why you’re maxing during. I've experimented with outer and inner sleeves and I generally prefer inner sleeves. I don't like how bulky the deck can get with outer sleeves.

RA02 will help bling it out but S:P is well past my balking point. Doing really well so far.
Slow and steady wins the race, i find a good local with friendly trades helps alot when rairty upgrading

For current format I'm maxing out Raidraptor. For TOSS format I'm maxing out Chaos MAX turbo. For Edison format I'm maxing out Blackwings.
I do like high rarity cards but, i also enjoy having money in my pocket 😅
I usually go for budget but i dont mind if i can get some cheap rarity upgrades for decks or, if i end up pulling a high rarity card from a pack for a deck I like

You have patience when it comes to getting rarities, I can't run mismatched rarities, and I rarely ever run into people that have what I want, so I end up spending coins. Getting ready to max out the new Lightsworn stuff. Luckily I already had all the old stuff in Ulti.

So with your max rarity decks, do you double sleeve them or just keep them as is ?
I still only double sleeve my Extra Deck, but I think I'm gonna start doing the main deck as well. Probably just with inner sleeves because I don't love the HUGE size of a fully double-sleeved deck.

I’ve been working on 3 decks, Altergeist, PlunderPatroll and Goblin Biker. Multifaker just got a CR and Adminia came QCR so there is some shiny stuff. Wish they would make a QCR Blackbeard
I don’t do this for YGO mainly because I feel like it’s too normalized in this game and makes it lose a bit of that “specialness” for me. I’ve actually been going the opposite direction with my main deck and trying to play all lowest rarities only. And for other decks, I find that I don’t always like the aesthetics of the max rarity versions of certain cards and card types

Very nice and shiny dude. Personally, I just play with secret rares and ultra rares if possible. I would only want collectors or starlights for my personal collection because I wouldn’t want to risk damaging them.

Right now, I'm maxing Face Knights and Tistinas. I'd like to max out Sacred Beasts, but I don't wanna take out a loan for them.
The only deck I have is Blue-eyes, and at this point it is unfortunately impossible to max out my deck, as that would require 3 DDS Blue-eyes NM copies lol.

Just one deck. Infernoids. That's it. It's a deck I plan on keeping forever, if in the future I feel like it then maybe Volcanics but since I quit Yugioh I am legit just a fan and collector, no longer a player. I've enjoyed competing but with me going into my career and wanting to be a dad I could only keep one hobby and it was between Jiu Jitsu and Yugioh... So yeah Jiu Jitsu was a must keep and with that I said farewell to Yugioh and I surprisingly have not missed playing because I enjoy watching others play instead.

As someone that has been in TCG/CCGs for close to 30 years, this is a horrible decision as an adult; unless you have the following: make sure your homeowners or renters policy includes replacement cost coverage for your personal property.
Many exceptions exist per policy and you have to make sure you're getting the right coverage for your card collection. Under some policies, you might get screwed out of depreciated value of your property. Make sure you're getting the right coverage.
Additionally, make sure you keep all physical records of your purchases and photos to provide on a whim to your insurance company. Be completely truthful about the value of your collection, as there are different brackets for coverage. Yes, expect to pay additional fees for coverage of your collection.
For some, maxing out a single deck might not be a big deal, but if you've been playing for a long time (including other card games), you'll be surprised at how much you'll end up spending over the years, much less decades.
Remember, all it takes is one bad day. A flood, a fire, or even a burglary can wipe out your entire collection within minutes. If you're serious enough to spend an extra $500 to upgrade to a single ultimate rare card, you shouldn't have issues paying for better homeowner's insurance.

I actually REALLY like them (and Rares) a lot when they're available because the card artwork is so much clearer and more visible. Foils (particularly Supers and sometimes Secrets) can get really dark and muddy. It's a big part of why I loved Tenyi so much.

People like shiny things. Its so funny when people max out rarities and dont go to a local store to play or compete in tournaments and make people see the rarity and their beautiful deck. Instead they never play and just have a deck maxed out of rarity sitting at home.
I get it if they’re collectors but a lot of people max out their deck for locals. The people that don’t go to play probably just like to admire their cards tbh

I don't play this game, but watch these videos occasionally as a lot translates to other games, but foil cards are just hideous. Seeing that what I think he called starlight rare was easily the worst looking foil card I've seen in a while. How are you even supposed to tell what that even is across the table? Whenever I'm making my magic decks, I actually go out of my way to make sure not a single card is foil. I just don't like them or think they look good. They're harder to read and tell what they are and not sure about this game, but they sure as hell do curl for Pokemon and magic which is the biggest turn off for me. Anyone who plays Yu-Gi-Oh feel something similar towards foil cards in the game?
Sometimes I prefer commons because the images are bright, clear and easy to see.
