    The fundamental flaw with the hijab is that it's used to hold women responsible for the flaws of men, when it should be men who are responsible for their own flaws.
    This is fundamentally unjust.

      @@prayunceasingly2029 Modesty is a false virtue Self-restraint and respect for the other on the part of the man (in this case) is true virtue. It is easy to find an intimate partner if you are a decent human being, and modesty has no part in it. It is a burden imposed on people (women in this case) who are deemed to be the property of others.

    My father accepted a two year job in Basra, Iraq in 1979 when I was 13. I am a tall, blonde, female and although there were parts of the Arab culture that were lovely, their treatment of women was scaring to my psyche! What I mean by that is, you are very impressionable at 13, despite what your teenage brain tells you, 😜, and I left the Middle East knowing IF I married, it would only be an American male.
    Now, PLEASE don’t take that wrong! There are MILLIONS of good men that are not American!!! Remember I said teenage mind! But I think I was right in my logic, just not in my reasoning. What I mean is that in general, men will treat women how they were raised. If women were treated respectfully and with dignity in their home, town, country, that is how MOST men will treat women.
    However, if you are taught women are worth half of you, they can be beaten or killed if they don’t obey you, and are to bare the blame of YOUR actions (like go or killing a girl who was raped), then spending a couple years in a location that treats women well will probably not change your basic beliefs. (I.e. Going to college for four years in the States.)
    I wish these women well!! Y’all are very brave!! 💕 I have never understood how Muslim women who move to free countries stay Muslim after learning how they can be treated. (Unless they are afraid of honor killing.). And I REALLY don’t understand western women converting to it!!!!

    Hijab = illusion of choice..

  • @CHAS1422
    @CHAS1422 4 ปีที่แล้ว +112

    Its control. The Hijab is a symbol of control over consent. Women were considered the property of men. Marriages were negotiated between fathers of families in order to maintain status. There were good fathers in Islam who made sure to find a decent spouse. There were also fathers with self ambition. In the case of Abu Bakr, he married his 9 year old Aisha to a 51 year old Muhammad, without her consent. She simply obeyed, and followed the modesty rules to maintain Muhammad's property rights as one of 11 wives. In return, Abu Bakr was given right to claim power as first Caliph when Muhammad died. If a woman chose to marry based upon courtship and solely her own consent, it was a dishonor to the family. The Hijab/niqab is a way of removing the identity, will, self determination of a woman and submitting to that of a male guardian. It also negates the rules of self control of men in society. They are given unmitigated rights to judge and to aggress if a woman declines submission. Even liberated Muslim women tend to marry Muslim spouses for fear of the inculcated social consequences.

    • @special-delivery
      @special-delivery 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abu Bakr was selected by Umar after everyone elected Umar to be the leader. May I know how the marriage with Ayesha is related to Umar's decision to give his position up for Abu Bakr?

    • @special-delivery
      @special-delivery 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with your criticism of Muslim society. Those are definitely one of the prominent ways the rules of modesty were interpreted. However, the laws were definitely not written with this in mind. It was never meant to be a control. But people are selfish bastards.

    • @CHAS1422
      @CHAS1422 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@special-delivery Abu Bakr was Muhammad's closest companion as I understand it. It was under this pressure that he acquiesced to Muhammad's request for his daughter's hand. But even Abu Bakr insisted that this arrangement not occur until Ayesha had matured to first menstrual. Muhammad did not name a successor, but rather it was Ali, after the battle of the Camel who suggested Abu Bakr, and as you say, it is also my understanding that Umar said the same. I would argue that Abu Bakr rose to the status of top companion. For what reason? Both Ali and Umar deferred to Abu Bakr. I may be wrong, but this is my understanding. Abu Bakr was first companion by virtue of his obedience and submission to the authority of Muhammad. The other companions recognized this relation.

    • @CHAS1422
      @CHAS1422 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Abdullah Habib I am in some agreement with your statement. Any inculcated ideology will lead to dysfunction as power seeking moralists seek to control social discourse. In the US the leftists in politics and academia are far too empowered.

    • @maquacr7014
      @maquacr7014 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CHAS1422 You do realize that Battle of Camel took place way after the death of Abu Bakar right?
      Abu Bakar didn't marry Ayesha to Muhammad to become Khalifa. No such deal took place. Muhammad didn't name a successor. Though this is the point of conflict between sunnis and shias. Shias believe that Muhammad named Ali his successor. Sunnis deny this claim. Abu Bakar was named Khalifa by the companions after the death of Muhammad. He was the most wise and was the first one among male adults to accept Muhammad as the messenger of Allah. He was also very close to Muhammad and due to this reason, he was chosen as a Khalifa by the companions.
      Say all you want about marriage as a form of controlling women but do not forget marriage promotes chastity and woman can say no to a proposal if she isn't interested or if she doesn't like the man. She has the final say. Husband will take care of all her needs and is solely responsible for feeding her. Husband has no right over his wife's earnings and her property in Islam. She may be a millionare but it is still the duty of husband to provide food and shelter to her and their children.

      There is so much misinformation around this topic "hijab" in Quran men are told to lower their gaze first and I have felt that when I do see Muslim men whom I have no association with( my friends husband) and they do lower their gaze and talk to me without making an eye contact with me, its a sign of respect towards me and in return I should respect such men by giving them something to respect for example simply dressing modestly is the way to respect the man's lowered gaze. As Muslims we are only allowed to see our spouses naked not other people, not even porn that is objectifying women and men. Hijab is about respecting yourself and others not because men cannot control their body part, that's bullshit!! I have never seen so much self control in men other then Muslim men. People hating any religion for any particular reason without any knowledge is very troubling such people needs help psychologically because "hate" is a negative emotion and whoever has it needs help!! As for childhood I don't think so.

    • @bead_on_demand
      @bead_on_demand 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @. I think, Hate is an extreme word, we shouldn't be extremists in anything. Disliking towards negative things you mentioned is the appropriate emotion. "Hating"something or someone makes you blind and deaf and such people really need help but the problem is they don't even realize they have any problem unfortunately.

    • @bead_on_demand
      @bead_on_demand 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @. No I don't love any of this and I don't like people who love these. There is always a reason behind negative emotions. The problem is with the people and their perception of things not with the religion or a piece of cloth. We really need to educate ourselves about everything with an open mind.

      Anyway, just fyi - a 'simp' proclaims the perfection of a woman who any normal person would see as either 'ordinary' or down-right narcissistic or toxic.

      Showing respect for anyone - even women (oh the horror!) - who manifest genuine qualities is, ummmm, what's the word, oh yeah - respectful!

      If these women (Ghada and her cohorts) ever start being toxic, I'll be the first to call 'em on it. Somehow I doubt it, but you never know, they are human after all. [wait, did he just call a 'woman' human? wtf is wrong with this guy? Koran 2:282, Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301, Sahih Bukhari 2:24:541, Sahih Bukhari 3:48:826]

    With respect to what the lady said about not being able to go to the swimming pool - the "burkini" is an extension of that. I've seen them in use in North Africa. The women look like frogmen/deep-sea scuba divers.
    And while they're hilarious at first glance, once you address the _actual_ reasons for making women dress in such a completely inappropriate fashion for reasons of "modesty", you realise that the intent is, in fact, very sinister.

    ..Allah himself has said 'I am as my servant thinks of me'
    Ive been through plenty just living in london alone.I used to wear the veil at 13 and men would shout obscene things at me and almost run me down the road at a zebra crossing mind you.This made me take off niqaab and that was okay,because it wasnt really for me.
    I then however took off my hijab because I wanted to fit in society better,have cooler friends and show off my fashion better in my vintage clothes.Now I wear it happily because the few matter of days that im on this earth,why should i care about this fleeting world and the people in it.
    No matter what excuses ex muslims or wavering muslims make..its just an excuse thats all it is.
    You can be 'free' and feel free a thousand different ways.Indeed Allah granted us free choice of everything and there is no compulsion in religion.
    There is no viable reason not to cover your hair and dress appropriately if you are muslim.Unless you live in a hateful openly discriminative country like France,that can prove scary and tricky.
    People leave Islam..because they find that 'people' not the religion itself mind you took them away from it.
    That in itself is dark enough and unjust.
    But then why continue to bash a religion,you've left..so go.
    If Allah wills he will guide you back to it

Unless they were not wearing before of course but thats what it's for. Non-Muslim women will support them wearing this as it removes those women from the market of men that otherwise would have been attracted to them. There is a reason why females are attractive to me if you hinder this attractive will be heavily diminished and thus men will lose interest and go for uncovered women. Simple logic

    The entire theology of islam is centered around the events that took place in the “Arab”.
    For a pakistani or bangladeshi to follow this book seems to be nothing more than conversion.
    Religion has to do with land and lineage.
    Quran has been edited many times, if you notice.
    The islamic cultures the Arabs follow are mostly pre-islamic.
    Origins of any religion is questionable, but the specific problem with Islam is that it has way too many origin stories, all of them equally confusing.
    But this is what the real origins seems to be.
    The famous Arabic description of Abraham's origins means that Judaism is questionable , such that neither of its offshoot religions, Christianity and Islam, can truthfully claim to be of divine or "inspired" origin.
    As concerns the god of Islam, Allah, Barbara Walker has this to say in her book "The woman's encyclopedia of myths and secrets" :
    "Late Islamic masculinization of the Arabian Goddess, Al-Lat or Al-Ilat-the Allatu of the Babylonians-formerly worshipped at the Kaaba in Mecca. It has been shown that 'the Allah of Islam' was a male transformation of 'the primitive lunar deity of Arabia.'
    Her ancient symbol, the crescent moon still appears on Islamic flags, even though modern Moslems no longer admit any feminine symbolism whatever connected with the wholly patriarchal Allah."
    Indeed, the Koran verifies Allah's lunar or night-sky status: "Remember the name of our Lord morning and evening; in the night-time worship Him: praise Him all night long." (Q 76:23) And at Q 2:189: "They question you about the phases of the moon.
    Say:
    " They are seasons fixed for mankind and for the pilgrimage.'"
    In Pagan Rites in Judaism (97), Theodor Reik states, in a chapter called "The ancient Semitic moon-goddess":
    "All Semites had once a cult of the moon as supreme power. When Mohammed overthrew the old religion of Arabia, he did not dare get rid of the moon cult in a radical manner. Only much later was he powerful enough to forbid prostration before the moon (Koran Sure 4:37).
    Before Islamic times, the moon deity was the most prominent object of cults in ancient Arabia. Arab women still insist that the moon is the parent of mankind.
    "Sir G. Rawlinson traces the name Chaldeans back to the designation of the ancient capital Ur (Chur) to be translated as moon-worshipers. The Semitic moon-god was 'the special deity and protector of women.' The Babylonians worshiped the goddess Ishtar, who is identical with the great Arabian goddess and has the epithet Our Lady... She also has the title Queen of Heaven, which really means the Queen of the Stars.
    She was horned and was, as all lunar goddesses, represented by a heavenly cow.
    "The Hebrew tribes, or rather their ancestors, were the latest wave of migrants from Arabia. The cult of their god was associated with Mount Sinai-the mountain of the moon. The experts assume that the name Sinai derived from Sin, the name of the Babylonian moon-god.
    In Exodus (3:1) Sinai is called the 'mountain of the Elohim. This suggests that it has long been sacred.'
    "In the Old Testament, which is a collection of much earlier, often edited writings of the Bible, the moon appears as a power of good (Deut. 33:4) or of evil (Ps. 12:16). Traces of ancient moon-worship were energetically removed from the text by later editors.
    A few remained, however, and can be recognized in the prohibitions of Deuteronomy. In 4:19 the Israelites are warned:
    'And lest thou lift up thine eyes upon heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, and be led astray to worship them, and serve them,' and in 17:3 the punishment of stoning is prescribed for the person who 'hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven...
    The Lord predicts (Jer. 8:2) that the bones of kings and princes of Judah will not be buried, but spread 'before the sun, and the moon, and all the hosts of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and whom they have worshipped.'"
    In The Origin of All Religious Worship (25-26), concerning Arab astrotheology, which was a continuation of this ancient Semitic lunar tradition, Charles Dupuis states:
    "The Moon was the great divinity of the Arabs. The Sarazens gave her the epithet of Cabar or the Great; her Crescent adorns to this day the religious monuments of the Turks. Her elevation under the sign of the Bull, constituted one of the principal feasts of the Saracens and the sabean Arabs. Each Arab tribe was under the invocation of a constellation.
    Each one worshipped one of the celestial bodies as its tutelar genius.
    "The Caabah of the Arabs was before the time of Mahomet, a temple dedicated to the Moon. The black stone which the Musulmans kiss with so much devotion to this day, is, as it is pretended, an ancient statue of Saturnus. The walls of the great mosque of Kufah, built on the foundation of an ancient Pyrea or temple of the fire, are filled with figures of planets artistically engraved. The ancient worship of the Arabs was the Sabismus, a religion universally spread all over the Orient. Heaven and the Stars were the first objects thereof.
    "This religion was that of the ancient Chaldeans, and the Orientals pretend that their Ibrahim or Abraham was brought up in that doctrine. There is still to be seen at Hella, over the ruins of the ancient Babylon, a mosque called Mesched Eschams, or the mosque of the Sun. It was in this city, that the ancient temple of Bel, or the Sun, the great Divinity of the Babylonians, existed; it is the same God, to whom the Persians erected temples and consecrated images under the name of Mithras."
    On the Astrotheology at Mecca, one of the sites for this Arab worship of the "hosts of heaven" was Mecca.
    Regarding the Kaaba of Mecca, that holiest of Muslim holies, Walker (487) writes:
    "Shrine of the sacred stone in Mecca, formerly dedicated to the pre-Islamic Triple Goddess Manat, Al-Lat (Allah), and Al-Uzza, the 'Old Woman' worshipped by Mohammed's tribesmen the Koreshites. The stone was also called Kubaba, Kuba or Kube, and has been linked with the name of Cybele (Kybela), the Great Mother of the Gods.
    The stone bore the emblem of theyoni, like the Black Stone worshipped by votaries of Artemis.
    Now it is regarded as the holy center of patriarchal Islam, and its feminine symbolism has been lost, though priests of the Kaaba are still known as Sons of the Old Woman."
    And a translator of the Koran, N.J. Dawood (1), says:
    "Long before Muhammad's call, Arabian paganism was showing signs of decay. At the Ka'bah the Meccans worshipped not only Allah, the supreme Semitic God, but also a number of female deities whom they regarded as daughters of Allah.
    Among these were Al-Lat, Al-Uzza and Manat, who represented the Sun, Venus and Fortune respectively."
    Arabian Matriarchy:- Yes, this is true!!
    Concerning the nation of Arabia, Walker asserts that, prior to the encroachment of Islam, it was a matriarchal culture for over 1,000 years:
    "The Annals of Ashurbanipal said Arabia was governed by queens for as long as anyone could remember....
    "Mohammed's legends clearly gave him a matriarchal family background. His parents' marriage was matrilocal. His mother remained with her own family and received her husband as an occasional visitor....
    "Pre-Islamic Arabia was dominated by the female-centered clans. Marriages were matrilocal, inheritance matrilineal. Polyandry-several husbands to one wife-was common. Men lived in their wives' homes. Divorce was initiated by the wife. If she turned her tent to face east for three nights in a row, the husband was dismissed and forbidden to enter the tent again.
    "Doctrines attributed to Mohammed simply re-versed the ancient system in favor of men. A Moslem husband could dismiss his wife by saying 'I divorce thee' three times ( Triple Talaq) .
    As in Europe, the change from matriarchate to patriarchate came about only gradually and with much strife.
    "...However, the history of early-medieval Arabia is nearly all legend. Like Buddha, Confucius, Jesus and other founders of patriarchal religions, Mohammed lacks real verification. There is no reliable information about his life or teachings. Most stories about him are as apocryphal as the story that his coffin hangs forever in mid-air 'between heaven and earth,' like the bodies of ancient sacred kings.
    "With or without Mohammed, Islam succeeded in becoming completely male-dominated, making no place for women except in slavery or in the seclusion of the harem.
    Islamic mosques still bear signs reading: 'Women and dogs and other impure animals are not permitted to enter.'
    "Nevertheless, traces of the Goddess proved ineradicable. Like the virgin Mary, Arabia's Queen of Heaven received a mortal form and a subordinate position as Fatima, Mohammed's 'daughter.' But she was no real daughter. She was known as Mother of her Father, and Source of the Sun..."

      @VivekCNair-jy4ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be continued...
      This is the real reason behind the repression of the female and is sadly ironic when one considers the roots of Islam, but it is not unexpected in a world that, for the past several thousand years, has done everything within its power to subjugate women simply because of physical differences, a male-domination need shared with the apes and other "lesser beasts." While some may claim that this subjugation and enslavement of women is a cultural tradition, rather than a religious one, it matters not, for it comes hand-in-hand with religions which teach that there is some separate outerspace god who is exclusively male.
      In Islam, this god is interpreted through the minds of Muslims as being an Arab or Persian man, as opposed to the Jewish man of the Judeo-Christian ideology.
      TO Me,
      Quran is a book that was specifically written for a purpose like waging a war against some powerful enemy.
      This text is not “ideal” for running societies and bringing spirituality and faith in the minds of the people, instead it instills “fear” to follow the codes strictly and conform to opinions you don't agree with.

      the word Allah is simply an arabic word for God, as the word El or Elohim is used in Aramaic or Hebrew. I grew up Muslim, my deep Islamic studies showed me that Allah was the supreme God but pre-Islamic Arabians were pagans who worshipped many gods along side him. Al-Lat and Allah are separate things but I do find this book very interesting. I agree - what is much of Islamic practices now are simply pagan practices re-imagined. I also caught onto the Saturn-Kabaa-Black Stone connection but I'm still researching more on that. The book that changed things for me was Destiny Disrupted by Tamim Ansari. The first Islamic empire was very racist and classist even though we cannot ignore the immense achievements they achieved with rapid domination of many empires in such a short period of time; it was this exclusionary nature of anyone who wasn't Arab or wealthy that caused their decline and gave rise to the Abbasids, who also continued to make the same mistakes.

I am glad these women have a voice and have access to more information but I feel like their rebellious attitude is coming from the bad experiences they had gone through in the past and maybe they were quick to jump into conclusions instead of getting more Islamic education on these particular topics. I feel like we should be open to listening and rising questions and not at all force them to be quiet. Forcing anything on someone is never good for mental health, weather its an ideology or a piece of cloth or a part of a body and people who go through any of these needs to realize that they need psychological help first and for most to overcome the trauma. I feel sorry for these women that they had to go through all that and I pray for their wellbeing.

      YOU SUDDENLY PULLED OUT SOME VAGUE CONCEPT OF GROUPS FROM YOUR GARBAGE CAN:
      The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty to them, save only for purposes of defense. It has thus come about that the person in charge of religious affairs in othe religious groups is not concerned with power politics at all. Among them, royal autority comes to those who have it, by accident and in some way that has nothing to do with religion. It comes to them as the necessary result of group feeling, which by its very nature seeks to obtain royal authority, as we have mentioned before, and not because they are under obligation to gain power over other nations, as is the case with Islam. There are merely required to establish their religion among their own people.': IRRELEVANT CUT AND PASTE RUBBISH GOING NOWHERE.... And they paid you for this !
      I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS EFFORT.....THIS IS WHAT KEEPS BRINGING IN THE NEW REVERTS TO ISLAM THICK AND FAST. AND YES IF YOU ARE STILL AROUND THE TSUNAMI OF NEW MUSLIMS WILL OVERWHELM YOU .....EVEN AS THE CAMERAS KEEP ROLLING

    1:20 that is so STUPID. No seriously, that's wrong, we don't say that. We wear hijab as a pride of our beauty. Common example - If you have rare gems, would you hide them, and save them so that no one will take them, or will you display them to the world. Our outer beauty is a gem. We wear hijab so that our hair, and body can be something special - not made for everyone. And anyway, whats being said is that hijab 'shouldn't be celebrated'. Absolutely stupid. Yes, there are children who have had bad experiences with it (similar experiences occur across each religion) But what about the other 90% who love and adore the modesty of it? Should they be pushed aside, and not celebrated????

    To all the people saying Islam teaches sexism, no woman rights, toxic modesty, etc etc. Read the quran for once. Its not Islam that teaches this. It is some of the societies that implement incorrect, and sinister teachings. Thats only 10% of the muslims out there. The quran teaches none of that, where I grew up, I was taught to love my hijab - I had a freedom of choice and loved being modest. That is because our family followed the teachings of the quran - not the society's sinister version.

I’m sure that there are women who are forced but I dislike it when people speak on the behalf of all muslim women. My religion definitely protected me from men. A guy would show me interest but as soon as he realises that I won’t have sex, or kiss or hold hands outside marriage..he runs away lol. If I didn’t follow my religion, these guys would’ve used me. Who knows, maybe I would’ve ended up pregnant and become a single mom. I know girls who are in this predicament. This is why I hold my religion dear.
