This film was much better than I expected. The main actress was the girl from Servant which I personally enjoyed, and also why I think they cast her in the role. Would love to see her in a comedy to see what her range is. There were some great overhead shots sprinkled in (I think two scenes) that were different from the rest, & were a nice cinematic switch up. Wish they had done a few more like those. Of course I can’t remember what they were lol. The character named Luce, a Lucifer reference perhaps. Curious what the Mama line was about at the end, and why they looked surprised. As always @fishjelly continues to be my go-to for top notch reviews ❤️

I’m so sad with not seeing you guys :( but love the review ! Went to see it last night and DAMN it felt like EVERY SINGLE THING the exorcist believer and immaculate wanted to be. So good. So so good. Goodness.

the part where margret’s demonic water broke reminded me of when isabelle adjani was miscarrying in possession so glad you guys picked up on that too i knew you’d like that callback ❤

6:12 / The whole "born of a jackal" carries over from the original to its sequel ( where a doctor discovers Damien's blood isnt human and resembles jackal blood) . I wonder why the prequel changes this?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how can Damien be the son of the devil/antichrist if they retcon the jackal being the mother by making the father the jackal and Margaret being the mother?
I knew this would be bad as retconning a most vital part of the Omen lore shows the makers of this movie don't respect the lore.
I believe the jackal was filled with spirit and mind of satan literally. Its funny I always pictured with the inception scene satan would look human.in the book when Satan was conjured i pictured he would look like a man.
Margaret is the spawn of the jackal. He had to mate with his own spawn to create Damien . So yes, she was a jackal a daughter of one and he too also had a jackal dad

Immaculate was not basic at all but to each their own
Edit: Just came out the theater! This was beautifully rich with so many scenes. Each shot was a Renaissance tapestry. Nell's portrayal was so complex, you could see so much was going on inside. And the backdrop of antifas--st Italy created additional tension. I expect they'll make a sequel. The ending was quite excellent. This story was written well and they knew exactly when to put the original Goldsmith theme in.

Was kinda of avoiding getting whiplash from having to watch too many popular horror movies given Immaculate, Late Night with the Devil, and this; and settle straight into Civil War next week. But I trust your taste. Imma go ahead and watch this film.
It was a great flick. Impressive cinematography, acting. That actress Luz looks like a mix of Scarlett O’Hare and Young Elizabeth Taylor. She gave her scenes old hollywood vibes.

Exactly! I was quite young and it scared me so much because they made it seem plausible with the Bible verses. Clever of the movie makers.

Just saw it today. This was so well crafted and shot. The car accident scene to me was so otherworldly. I loved the body acting. I wish it was just a little more scary but great film overall.

I just left the theater. The film exceeded my expectations. I was the only one in the theater, which made it more creepier. It takes a lot to scare me, this move hit a certain way. lol ( I thought the same thing about the files. She wasn't discreet at all.)
I thought the nun that lit herself on fire and jumped the balcony was giving Vander Von Odd (Dragula S1 winner) vibes! I can see Scarlett too though!! 🤡🎉
I avoided watching this, cuz the thumbnail scared me. I thought there would be something about parasites. I didn't even get, that it was supposed to be a 666.
You guys are right about this movie looking gorgeous and it certainly does. For me, it did feel very 70's filmic in the way it was shot. You didn't feel any obvious steadicam shots or even drone shots. The kind of sweeping shots even looked old school shot from cranes or a panning stationary drone. This kind of old school film making, framing worked amazingly well in feeling more vintage. The Paulo car scene was absolutely not needed and just plain silly. The shock value would have been, well, more shocking if the truck backed up while Margaret is comforting Paulo- would have been waaay creepier than the stupid shot they gave us. The other really dumb scene was the way they displayed the C- Section so anatomically incorrect and the quick sew up. HA> despite all these stupid contrivances it was a well told story. THE ENDING, I was like wtf?? Felt like a John Wick movie- like they are planning spin offs with the girl devil child being a source for good. HA-- anyway- for a directorial debut - HOLY FUCK- knocked it out of the park.
Maybe they are going to make Damien and his sister “mate” to create a subversive lineage. Sounds f’d up enough to follow this story.

I don't think they captured it. I think the church somehow made a deal with the devil and it decided to show itself as a jackal.

The film takes place in 1971 but we hear a song by Raffaella Carrà (Rumore) which was published in 1974. Small careless error...

I thought the movie looked good, was well paced and well acted.

However, I thought there were several opportunities to tell a much more compelling story especially when you consider the runtime. How the main character was groomed as a young child to assume the role of mother of the antichrist would have been fascinating. I also think it would have been interesting to show her dual nature much earlier in the film. The contrast between this shy, meek girl and the animalistic side we see during the third act could have been much better utilized during the club scene. I don't know why they made it a final act twist since everyone could see it coming a mile away. Overall, a missed opportunity.

Apparently the director whispered in her ear before that scene after the car crash to "freak them the f out" about the other people working on set and people were walking off set it was so good. I'm happy for everyone in the this film
The Shout Factory box set is what i watched last night, first the crappy Remake then the Original Sequel. I'll rewatch the Original then the 3rd. The Awakening isn't worth watching but has the best documentary on it of the whole series.

Ralph Ineson is creepy. Love him as an actor, but he's so creepy. And I'm sure that everyone expected the driver to be in on it, but he wasn't! Glad that trope wasn't used.

This theme, is similar with the all these girls going on a 'journey to become Nuns!' Joseph:" that they believe they can control the devil, somehow, and...Nick opines about doing all this plan through a very poor filing system...🤨Surprising that this does well!

I had a theory that Damien’s mom would appear or that the main protagonist was in fact Damien’s mom, and that she wasn’t a real jackal to begin with, she either was turned into a body of a dead jackal after she died giving birth to Damien or she was half human, half jackal, and I was half right, except she was raped and impregnated by a female jackal!
This movie is immensely better than immaculate.
And as a conservative, I have to say I don't know what the hell circles you guys are in, but I don't know anyone that has an issue with immaculate other than its predictable schlock that's getting way too much praise.
