    Reagan and Ryan, First off, I'm a true Vaer loyalist as I own the D5 Tropic, the D7 Artic and just ordered the G7 GMT with the Pepsi bezel. Couple of things, first, in the GMT video I noticed a West Point note card in the video and wondered if either of you are affiliated with West Point as I am a 1984 graduate. Next, it would be great if you gave us an option to upgrade our 1st band because for people like me who love your watches will end up with multiple Tropic straps (I will now have three of them). Thanks for a great intro video for the GMT and keep making great watches. I own Rolex, TAG and Omega yet find myself always wearing a Vaer! Thanks!

    I need ceramic. I bang 2:00 on door jams, countertops, etc. Glad I went with the D5 recently. I could have gone for the black and gilt color way though.

      We appreciate the feedback, and there are definitely pros and cons to each - Aluminum definitely shows a bit more wear (though we love the patina), but Ceramic can actually crack if struck hard. Each give off a different aesthetic, and we preferred that of Aluminum for this line.

    Great watch! I've been considering a GMT for about a year now. I think I saw this on a survey you put out earlier in the year and was immediately interested. Love the three colorway choices. For me I think classic Pepsi is going to be the way to go, kinda what I've been looking for in an auto GMT.
    I see a few comments on the choice of ceramic vs aluminum bezel. I think the aluminum definitely looks great. Definitely pros and cons to both. I do think if you ever do decide to do the ceramic on a GMT it should be fully lined as well...added functionality of a fully lumed bezel actually makes sense on a GMT vs just a pip.

    This is a nice GMT watch, but there is a few details that can be intergrated in this model:
    Number 1: a 24-hour ring to make tracking a third timezone easier
    Number 2: a date window at the 6 o'clock, because the no-date dial is, as one commentor pointed out, antithetical to the purpose of the GMT watch
    And that's it, although a toolless adjustment system intergrated into the clasp would be nice and a welcome upgrade.

    Really like the pepsi design, the dimensions, the no date and the quick release springbars on the bracelet.
    I just wish it had a ceramic bezel and a toolless micro adjustment clasp like Halios, Christopher Ward and Zelos then I'd be sorely tempted, even if I think the price is a little high compared to other GMTs with similar movements

    • @patrickgroll2046
      @patrickgroll2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No-date looks cool, but it is antithetical to the purpose of a GMT watch. Which is exactly why the big boys do not offer GMTs without a date.

      @@patrickgroll2046 Well Heuer did a no date Autaiva Pepsi bezel Gmt manual wind chronograph. That didn't have a date window from the late 60s.That's highly sort after and Omega had the Flight Master which was also dateless. Also Nevada had a Pepsi bezel Gmt chronograph that didn't have a date. So top brands did have GMTs without date windows

      Yeah, it can be frustrating. I’ve ordered two watches from them, the D5 Atlantic and one of these G7 Pepsis. I ordered the D5 in Dec, around Christmas of last year and received about 3 weeks later. I ordered the G7 on Veterans Day of this year and have yet to receive it. They are a small brand and since their watches (seemingly) are in pretty high demand it’s tough for them to keep stuff in stock. I do love my D5 and I’m sure I’ll love the gmt which will hopefully be shipped shortly.

      Eazy E, I am completely sold on the Citizen Eco-Drive technology. IMO, they own the solar quartz segment. However, Citizen has just recently announced their commitment to a new automatic caliber for their flagship product line. And, I am unaware of any third party or micro watch maker being licensed to use Eco-Drive calibers. Seiko's mecha-quartz has been licensed fairly broadly, but in terms of reliability, I highly favor Citizen's Eco-Drive calibers.
      I agree that either Eco-Drive or Mecha-Quartz is a compelling application for a traditional form factor and low profile GMT. Fingers crossed, someone will recognize this market opportunity. It makes particularly in application to the later MOD issue designs, where quartz came to be the norm. Eco-Drive and Mecha-Quartz would be the next logical progression for these applications.

    My OCD can't handle the bizarre variation for the indices. Why are the 1, 5, 7, 11 different from the 2, 4, 8, 10? 3/6/9/12 being different is the norm, but I don't understand why the other indices are randomly different with no rhyme or reason. Otherwise, love the watch.

    The more I see it the more I like the aluminum. Ceramic is great and all but there's nothing special about it. You can get $100 Aliexpress watches with ceramic. The more important thing is for the bezel material to match the aesthetics. The aluminum with gilt looks friggin' great for this watch. I'm sure ceramic will match better with other designs.

    Cool that y'all made a gmt watch. But y'all kinda cut corners... should've had a 24 click bidirectional bezel.... Also eta is cool and all, but this is the same movement that's found in the steinhart GMTs.... Which is not a "true gmt." I wish more companies were putting out true gmts with local jump hour. So much more useful when travelling. The Mido Ocean Star GMT is the only affordable "true GMT".... and I don't really like the looks of it. Maybe in the future y'all can take this advice and really put out a special watch
    I love the look of the black/guilt variation shown in this video! No doubt you guys have some beautiful designs!

    • @VaerWatches
      @VaerWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're offering a 120 click bidirectional bezel, so no corners cut here. We prefer the flexibility that 120 clicks allows, as 24 clicks will leave out some time zones. While Steinhart makes great homage watches, many are looking for a more unique style. As a quick heads up, Steinhart's product page state "ETA 2893-2/SW330", and our guess would be that current watches include the Sellita version (which is okay in its own right). A lot of value can’t be measured by a spec sheet, and we measure our value as a full package that includes design, finishing and aesthetics. That has a lot of value to our customers (given sales of this collection thus far).
      While a "true GMT" is great in principal, the practical difference is relatively negligible - a very small amount of extra time setting when you're changing time zones (and you'll likely have downtime while changing time zones unless you're the one flying the plane, and even still sparing an extra minute or two is very feasible)

  • @ivermec-tin666
    @ivermec-tin666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    These are some compelling offerings. The timing really blows for me personally. But, the upgrades to the bracelet call to me for my previously purchased Swiss Diver and USA Field watches. This is much closer to a proper match for the fit and finish of the VAER diver's cased watches. It clearly takes a queue from Christopher Ward's brilliant bracelet innovations. That is a very good thing! IMO, CW sets the standard by which modern tool-less bracelets are measured. The apparent lack of half links and a diver's extension are a disappointment, I must say. The use of screws rather than pins is brilliant! The double pusher clasp is definitely an improvement. The easier to grasp actuators on the tool-less lug pins is significant as well.
    Thank you, Ryan, for sharing your smile! You all are so close to the music capitol of the USA, you really need to scout around for a musician to make you some more complex and engaging musical accompaniment, something with a bit more progression.
    The Sand colored strap is a winner. I hope this color will be available on your two piece nylon, as it mirrors the white hands and markers on the Arctic Diver. It would pop on the A12 mk2 as well.
    Just one quibble. IMO, the bezel on a GMT ought to be bi-directional. This appears to be unidirectional. Oh, I read below that is is bi-directional! Brilliant!
    I find the vintage bakelite bezel to be a compelling aesthetic. I believe that this can be accomplished in ceramic. This would, IMO, be the perfect use of modern materials to invoke a vintage aesthetic. Lume it up, and you will have near perfection.

      Happy to provide more detail here - the choice of Aluminum vs Ceramic has nothing to do with value (there are $100 watches with Ceramic & $7,000 watches with Aluminum). It really come down to the fact that we found Aluminum to be a great aesthetic fit here.

    This watch looks good but is going to be as successful as a jumbo jet made of solid uranium. First of all, a GMT watch must have a date complication, period (and not a quick-set). Second, at this price you should be offering a true traveler's GMT with a jumping hour hand. Third, this is wildly overpriced. For heaven's sake, you could get something like a Mido Ocean Star GMT for 3/4 the price, and get proper GMT functionality.

  • @BenLarkins
    @BenLarkins 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The brushed hands on the Meridian look cheap. The Squale GMT has the same ETA2893 movement, a ceramic bidirectional bezel, water resistant to 30 ATM and a much better finish. Plus it’s $400 less than the Meridian at $799…

    • @VaerWatches
      @VaerWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We personally love the look of our brushed hands, though it all comes down to preference! Our bezel is bidirectional, and the choice of Aluminum vs Ceramic has nothing to do with value (there are $100 watches with Ceramic & $7,000 watches with Aluminum). Regarding that Squale piece, the only Squale ETA 2893 watches we're seeing are going for $1200 to $1500 on eBay, Island Watch, WatchGecko, etc. & $1484 on their site directly (not currently available). If these originally retailed for $799, then this is just a testament to the value of the ETA 2893 in today's market.
      In terms of head to head spec comparisons, a lot of value can’t be measured by a spec sheet, and we measure our value as a full package that includes design, finishing and aesthetics. That has a lot of value to our customers (this has been one of our biggest releases to date)

    Okay, so you have ETA movement. Great dimensions and that's it. Aluminum Pepsi insert without lume I think was a wasted opportunity to separate yourself from Steinhart. I get the vintage look and the sword hands nothing new. Ceramic, lumed, slopping insert with vintage hands would get you noticed. Not a Rolex homage and not a soon to be scratched, no lume bezel insert. Bracelet was another miss. Yes, quick release is still a novelty, but Christopher Ward at least offers a better, adjustable clasp than your Chinese version. Male end links is another lost opportunity to satisfy unfulfilled need. So, for same money or less I can buy Christopher Ward SeaLander GMT with better bracelet less obvious homage look and better known brand name. Or, for less money I can get Steinhart Ocean 39 GMT with 500 meters of water resistance, female end links and same movement.....

  • @patrickgroll2046
    @patrickgroll2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was not a good video. The thing people care about most is the movement and the operation. Is this a true GMT with jump-hours and the hour hand and GMT hand slaved together? The bezel absolutely, positively should be a 24-click. The watch is grossly overpriced without these things.
