I rescued a Boxer. She was so disconnected from me. She'd survived physical abuse, neglect and almost died from starvation. When I got her she had gone through 3 homes in 3 months. She had the most distant, scared look in her eyes. Broke my heart. She was scared of everything!!! People, cars, anything stick like from a broom to a duster, ceiling fans. Sudden movements. And she would tense up when you touched her. It took a solid year of working on her trust and her fears. I tried to only reward behavior and made a huge effort not to correct her. She was too sensitive.. even for a somewhat stern "no". So if I corrected it was a gentle "no" and was quickly followed up with a lots of cheerleading type praise and reward. There were times I felt she would never break through, but I would settle for any improvement I could get. Sometimes thinking this is the best it will get with her. And she was just going to be my special girl. Of course no matter what she is my special girl, but I thought I would really have to shield her from a lot of the world. Fast forward to 8 yrs later. I have a chubby 10 yr old old lady. Not fearful, totally lazy and could care less when those scary things happen now. Now she boldly tells me if she wants something (attention, food, etc.). She is a character and makes us laugh. She makes the most hilarious faces and looks at you. Very expressive. Total dork puppy. I adore her... we adore her now (I have since married and he adores her too). Just sharing this for anyone who rescues... just know that sometimes you have a diamond in the ruff (spelling error intended lol). They are so worth it and the bond and love is our reward. She is slowing down now and my heart aches at the thought of not seeing her funny face anymore. But the rewards of her impacting my life far outweigh the pain I will feel when her time comes to cross the rainbow bridge. So many dogs out there like Bella (my Boxer) and Pudge just waiting for their human hero to come save them, but make no mistake they will rescue you right back in the end.
Gotcha, im a rescuer too. Kitties and doggies over 20 years. Just LOVE our pets God gave us to enjoy. Love and light to all. 🐶🐱🐾🐾💖💕🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾.

God bless you for your rescue of her... its sad to know that shes slowing down. Whenever she does eventually pass away, just remember how much you transformed her life and how happy you made her for those 8 years plus... you could be sad when she dies or be happy that she lived. it took my indian ringneck parrot 2 years for him to fully trust me petting his head and handling him. he would always run away screaming if i put my hands near him, but now he always wants to be with me and flies to me. he loves kisses and saying hello to me. you just have to be patient with all animals

Someone probably mentioned this, and I'm certainly no Sherlock Holmes of dogs, but Pudge probably lived in a situation before her in which being loud or talkative was dangerous/severely punished.

Yeah quiet or shy is usually the result of punishment for expressing yourself, horrible really. Pets are like my babies, got to let them express themselves and be happy!!!

OR Pudge was just crated all of the time [working owners, lots of household members and/or newborn babies or other additions to the household etc] and wasn't shown proper love and affection in his previous home(s), which led him to not understand 'familial' connections with humans or other animals. She reminds me so much of one of my mom's neighbours, who tends to take in troubled dogs. She has a ridiculous voice 24/7, but it's one of the many reasons we love her.

I have watched this video a ridiculous amount of times. I can tell how much this woman loves Pudge and I have voices for animals that are not voluntary. I love how much she dotes on him and has transformed his life.
What a gorgeous tri color pocket pibble. Those are expensive dogs, usually at least 1000 dollars and up to 5000 dollars for a nice pocket pit.
