@@zaiken127 While the manga is nearing its conclusion it’s safe to say that it’ll continue for one more year MINIMUM. Also the author often goes on hiatuses so it’s hard to predict anything.

Can we just address how hardcore Riko is? While she's bleeding out of every hole from the Abyss's curse, poisoned with a big hole in her hand, is she screaming like any of us would? Nope! Just calmly tells Reg to chop that arm off.
Gotta go beyond Ozen, Lyza and Bondrewd if she wants to see the bottom. One lost arm is nothing. Riko is sigma.
She was in a heightened survival state meaning her body was likely full of adrenaline. This along with the way the curse of the abyss interacts with the body would likely confound her since of pain. It should also be said that losing blood on it’s own isn’t particularly painful, it’s usually an injury that preceded it that causes pain. The cleaving of the arm was probably out of a sense of desperation, but she did in fact, feel that agonizing pain. It’s the impalement that would have gradually made her cry out, had her arm not been snapped once the adrenaline had worn off.

My thoughts on how to survive the Abyss.
1. Don't go into the Abyss.
2. If you do go into the Abyss, don't go into the deeper layers.
3. If you do go into the deeper layers, don't go alone or with a small/inexperienced group.
4. If you do go alone or with a small/inexperienced group, travel slowly and carefully to build enough familiarity and skills that you're unlikely to die from normal events within each layer.
5. If you've somehow survived while ignoring rule 1-4, you've got some miraculous luck and/or are a little anime girl with a powerful robot boy.
It is quite easy actually.
1. Do not be an adult
2. Believe in the power of friendship
3. If you somehow find yourself against all odds, rush to save your nakama and scream loudly on how friendship will prevail.

The abyss gave nanachi good fragrance and cute appearance because nanachi hated that she kept getting called smells bad and ugly. While the other "doesnt want to die" so abyss gave them immortality.

A correction on that red note (10:12). That red note was not from her Mom. That was written by her senior ( that white haired teen-ager a while back). He actually knows that Riku and Reg are going to the abyss alone, so he tucked that note in those letters. Since he can't convince them to stay put, he will just let them be. Then he will come after them. This puts Riku in a panic so she and Reg immediately ran off.
yes, exactly. Their senior was really close with her mother. That's why he helped them and gave them time, but he was ready to help if needed.
btw I've just found out there is a new manga chapter with the name of the whistle and finally we have it speaking (the whistle is *talking* yes it's weird but if you read the manga you know what I mean)

I’m reading the manga (vol 8) and watched both the movie and the show…where in god’s name was it mentioned that he wrote the note???

@@SMDubsmore Remember when Reg an Riko went to see Lyza’s belongings that were brought up with Habbo? The note was there along with the Lyza’s booklet of notes that they later stole before booking it. I think that same night, Leader “bumped” into Reg, and they found the note after they descended and Reg showed Riko. Leader probably gave it to them to further encourage them to delve, but he didn’t write it.
I like how when cinema summary has to leave someone he's somewhat chill about it and has good motives but when how to beat anime has to sacrifice someone they're like:

As much as I enjoy the humor with these videos I think it's the best way to survive is not being the narrator's friend because it seems like every time he's going to easily throw the friend away for his own safety
To be fair once stuff goes down, no one is trustworthy in these scenarios especially as things get more intense. Best betray the other before they betray you
@@elrod2191 not necessarily in this anime specifically its not like these people are being pit against each other by some evil entity for their amusement. The only enemy is the environment and what lives in it and having as many useful people possible on your side would help your survival chances the most in this environment. So if you were Reg or Riko sacrificing either one would be really dumb since they both bring useful skills to the table that are needed in the abyss. As dumb and naïve as Riko is sometimes she often comes up with good plans and has a lot of practical knowledge for the abyss. Reg is obviously a combat powerhouse. Both are needed in the abyss as we have seen before neither on its own is enough to overcome the abyss. Sacrificing either of them should only be done if absolutely necessary to save themselves from a purely pragmatic point of view.
Well.. the whole idea in this channel is to survive, by any means, with also leaving your morale for the sake of living. So that makes sense.
Let's be honest with ourselves here we all know the narrator will be one of the 1st ones dead if this actually came to pass because he wouldn't have a script to review

I think I got it.
The ancient peoples probably figured out how to transplant their souls into automatons like how we see with Reg. By being a machine with a soul, you can absolutely traverse the Abyss. Reg is a member of this ancient tribe.
Also, I think Riko's mom's physical body is gone, but her soul travelled to the bottom of the abyss, where she has inherited a new, Reg-esque body.
then why no one from the ancient tribe had ever ascended from the abyss, if ur theory is true then there should be a lot of ancient tribe members traveling to the outer layers .
@@pralayaryan Two answers. Firstly, time dilation is massive down there, it is very possible that Reg is the first automaton to rise up from the 8th abyssal layer. But I think, more aptly, is the question of 'why'. Why would they want to leave their homes, especially if they consider it a kind of promised land? Most tribal communities are very insular and uninterested in the outside world. They would need a very good reason to leave. Perhaps Reg is connected to that reason.
1. the red note was written by the white haired guy at the start and not the mom, and they thought he was saying he wouldn't try to convince them to stop but would come after them as a kind of test to see if they were good enough to survive which is why they panicked and tried to descend quicker.
2. Finding her mom is ultimately an excuse that Riko uses to explore and see what's in the abyss, as she was born there and is therefore very drawn to it. This is also why she feels the need to continue descending even when Reg is passed out and told her to stay put. What's intresting is that's why the show is called what it is cus Riko is literally "Made in Abyss" lol
3. The orb piercer can practically read their thoughts and predict the future so trying to trick it by sacrificing riko wouldn't work
4. Going all the way down to the 5th layer (while Bondrewd is there aswell) just to find the artifact thingys and then descending all the way back up just to fight Ozen (and most definitely die because of the curse) isn't a very good idea..

Your partially right but not fully if it could perfectly see the future reg would not have been able to grab his nose because he would have seen his jump right in advance. If it had partial insight or could predict movements it would allow for an effect of foresight but if it were foresight reg couldn’t have been able to reach it

As cebola pointed out and Bondrewd at least in the manga clearly states, the time of a mass-death-event was creeping ever closer. Bondrewd was trying to find a solution, but continued to fail. He was debating going deeper to find a solution, however the layers beyond the 6th are quite mysterious as there are no records describing what lies within them, or how many more layers there even are. Returning is not a guarantee as presumably instant death awaits those who try to ascend. He is capable of observing the world through Nanachi’s eyes, so using the children as a scouting party is a vile yet efficient way to scout out the lower depths of the abyss.
Made in abyss is a masterpiece . The world building is so unique and captivating and the characters are beautifully written . The abyss is really terefying place yet so captivating 🤩

I felt like it was too boring and Riko was too annoying for me. That's why I'm glad How to Beat Anime made this summary video. I was kinda curious to know what the anime is about but I don't have enough interest to keep watching the anime.

Reg said themselves that the reason they were going down was because they wanted to find out who they are, and that Riko didn't convince them to go down. So no, it's not the only reason for this whole journey.

The curse repelling vessel doesn't actually repel the curse. Someone would put a half alive animal in it, then carry it up, and the animal would still be alive at the top of the climb so they just assumed it prevented the curse from killing the occupant. Nope, the occupant does and the box revives them, and as long as you keep climbing the thing will keep dying and reviving.

Anytime I see Made In Abyss content I cry a bit. Even if somethings or in this case a decent amount are inaccurate. This series and manga does not get enough credit

@@rodrigoflores918 so for the red letter riko got when they were in the first layer: this had nothing to do with hand writing or being late to find her mother. Leader sent that letter down. Ozen: Ozen is not the top white whistle, she's the physically strongest. There is no top white whistle, rikos mother is regarded as the greatest because of her charisma and personality, that's why even kids know about her and regard her as the greatest. Layers: fifth layer in particular is home to idofront. Bondrweds praying hands were black whistles. We see this is nanachi's flashback in s1 and later on. (Might be a typo in script but) The fifth layer is the deepest you can return from not go.Curse repelling vessel: despite the name it does not prevent the curse, it only reanimates dead things. Blue hair girl: guy lol. Splitjaw: it wasn't following them, the splitjaw is native to the third layer. Just a plot driven coincidence they met again. The Orb first piercer fight: no matter what you do, you will not beat it 1v1. Unless you're a whitewistle. If reads the movement of the curse it knows you will just wait for it to charge and then blaze reap it. It wont charge. Your only hope is being faster than it can perceive the curse or listening to the commands of a third party like a robot. Nanachi explains how this works decently. Riko passing out: literally a coma lol. Bondrewds experiments: He was researching the "blessing" this ones not too clear tho. That's the non nitpicky version, still like the vid tho. I've seen worse interpretations. Pardon grammar I gotta sleep

"If I was Riko, I'd focus less of my time on climbing and more time on studying the myths and legends and history associated with the Curse of the Abyss."
Bruh, Riko eats, sleeps and BREATHES Abyss lore. She knows the list of major artifacts by heart, she knows all the ways the Curse can affect you on every layer up the 6th (and nobody can return from any lower than the 5th), and she knows most of the currently discovered fauna and how to exploit/counter/avoid them. The only reason she doesn't know more is because there literally isn't any more she can learn; any further information is either restricted from Red Whistles, or outright hasn't been discovered yet. Literally the only way she can progress now is through training and practical application: ie, going into the Abyss. As for knowledge of the Curse, nobody has ANY clue why it exists or how any of it works, except perhaps the White Whistles. The viewer only recieves an explaination on how it functions after they meet a character who can literally SEE the Curse.

I feel like you should have had more to say about the third layer escape scene like it was pretty dumb to drag reg through the caves when it didn't look like anything was chasing her immediately. All the carnivores they had seen so far were quite large and the tunnels there were quite narrow they could have just waited until reg regained consciousness to go exploring since riko is kinda useless combat wise on her own. Secondly since the laser beam causes him to go unconscious after he uses it maybe it would have been a smart idea to train earlier to find another way to kill large beasts in combat without it since going unconscious leaves riko very vulnerable since she has no combat capabilities herself. They also had another weapon they could have just used the pickaxe instead of the incinerator to kill the monster in the third layer first so reg would be awake to defend her later. Also it is shown later on since reg will go unconscious no matter what after using his incinerator he might as well just use it multiple times since he can use more then one before he goes unconscious to defeat the splitjaw.
Edit: while I am it sacrificing riko to the orb thing would be a dumb idea. There would be no reason to do it in that moment considering their lives were not in danger and on his own Reg is capable of escaping and surviving an orb piercer as we saw before. Riko as useless as she is in combat and naive as she is is still useful because of her wealth of knowledge as we have seen before. She may pull it out at inopportune times as we have seen before, but she had been helpful in the past with the advice and would probably continue to be helpful. In addition if you need to sacrifice someone later on having a third party member to sacrifice later is always useful in such a dangerous place. No need to throw away resources willy nilly in such a deadly place. This deep in the abyss not many people come here and the likelihood of gaining new members to the expedition is slim and the chances will only get slimmer. As long as each member adds something throwing away a team member as a sacrifice should be a last resort since you are likely going to have to make do without their skills for the rest of the trip if you sacrifice them. Also her mother would probably not be pleased to learn her daughter was sacrificed if/when they find her. Lastly if Riko's mother was/is such a badass what prevents riko from becoming the same she obviously has the genetics for it she just needs to do some training so maybe they should stop for a while and do a training montage to atleast make her able to fend for herself.
Yeah, in the manga the fight is very different, instead of encountering the Madokajack at 26:48, it's the same Crimson Splitjaw from later in its place, so the fight happens earlier and Reg is fully awake, they defeat it by Riko first throwing Sun Sphere to distract it and then Reg beating the living shit out of it into the abyss lol, they didn't even use the pickaxe
Although the anime did expand on the world building by having Reg fire the incinerator, falling unconscious and Riko exploring more of the 3rd layer, which didn't get much exposition in the manga, so that's very nice 👌

@@liquidrock2u If you wanna know why its called "Made in Abyss" then I'll tell you that the title has a meaning for each of the main characters:
Riko was born in the Abyss, Reg was literally made in the Abyss and Nanachi was transformed in the Abyss. They were all technically "made" in the Abyss as their most important life events happened there. There's a saying in the surface that "Everything that comes from the Abyss, returns to it" that hints us on one thing:
These three kids were from the Abyss, they will return to the Abyss.
Thats why its called "Made In Abyss", it refers not only to Reg but to the fate of the protagonists.

Made in abyss is similar to When they cry, in the fact that on the surface it seems super cute and chibi but is actually so fucked up it will make you feel queasy by the end.

Not a bad video but you missed some big things.
Like how hard it is to trick the porcupine monster since it can feel what other are thinking to the point of having foresight-like instincts.
Or how Riko being revived by that relic mean that she instinctively seeks the bottom of the abyss.

@@smilelovecookie Not really, the curse does push everyone toward the bottom by making it always easier to go down rather than to go up and by transporting sunlight and air. But the people still chose to go down there, it's just that curiosity and greed make for a fantastic bait.
On the other hand, Rico (and everything else resurrected using the cube relic) are the only one who are made to instinctively want to reach the bottom.

step 1: youll have a fun life but youll suffer eternal hell at the end. who cares, best dad.
Best dad sacrificed Prushka for 2 obvious and major reasons:
1. The trio needed passage to the 6th layer, but this can only be done with a user’s own white whistle.
2. The eve of catastrophe is nearing and Bondrewd is running out of options. If a cure isn’t found soon all of the children of the current generation and potentially more will die on the surface which will have massive consequences both for society and of course the future of the Abyss exploration.
Bondrewd is has no choice, save to observe the party through Nanachi’s eyes and hope they might unravel the secrets of the abyss that will allow him to save the people on the surface. It doesn’t make it right, but this was the only way things were going to play out.

I'm not gonna lie. If there comes a time some group decided to recreate the story of Made in Abyss as a gore filled, open-world exploration game with monster mechanics that could surpass Monster Hunter: World, I would make the exception of my life to camp by a store in order to be first customer.

Unfortunately, they rushed the release to match the second season, so it's not as good as it could be.
@@andrzejsobanski6752 It's got all the important stuff, though - you get to advance whistle ranks and freely explore every inch of the first five layers in whatever way you choose. And it is indeed gory as hell. Though it does need some tweaks, for sure, I still love it.

Okay, can't not say something. When Riko pulls out the red slip of paper it is not from her mother. The red slip with the writing is from their teacher at the orphanage, telling them that he will come to find them after dawn. It is their last test from their teacher to help them along their way. Since once they pass into the second layer as red whistles nobody will come to find them. It is also only red whistles that will not be helped after this layer. The final decent in layer 5 down to layer 6 is where it is said there to be no way to return to the surface due to the strains of ascent.
For some reason this dude's scientific approach to the Abyss and its curse (and everything associated with it) reminds me of Bondrewd.
... not the most pleasant of reminders.
Not to mention that Bondrewd is likely the only one who has the resources, skill and technology to do all of the science-heavy solutions proposed in the video, and more importantly, the only one who would likely be willing to do so, considering that developing new ways to overcome the Abyss would fit right into his schedule of becoming a fluffy curse-immune transhuman monster via copious amounts of child sacrifice. Plus, if it benefits him enough, he would be willing to sacrifice his life to help, considering that he has an artifact that IIRC allows his soul to take control of the bodies of anyone who puts on his helmet, even if it's damaged to an extent, and has an army of mutant clones to help keep the work going.
Hello. I just want to bring up that Riko technically did a "thorough" inspection of Reg on her own back when he was still unconscious. If I can remember it correctly, Riko tested multiple things on him, including attempting to drill through his hands and skin, checking his genitals, and even sticking a measuring stick up his rectum, which promptly broke while inside him. She did manage to get the snapped portion back out of him though. So while it wasn't any tests of his abilities or his incinerator, she still did an inspection and reported back her findings to the other children in the orphanage.
EDIT: Went back and rewatched the scene and here's Riko's report on Reg (before she got cut off by another child at the orphanage who got uncomfortable with how thorough her inspection was).
"Besides that, his arm can extend about 40 meters. His metal parts are made of some mysterious flexible material, which I couldn't pierce even with a drill. He also has a belly button, but I couldn't really see inside his butthole. I tried to probe him with a measuring stick, but it broke while inside him... Also, his penis doesn't appear to be mechanical but more like a real one..."
It's amazing how professional and analytical Riko is. So much so that the nigh-indestructible amnesiac living robot is actually the audience voice of normalcy. I feel like Bondrewd probably used to be a lot like her before Zoaholic fried his mind down to its most core aspects.
This video is pretty good but there are a few problems like at the start they don’t have type of laboratories like that in made in abyss I’m pretty sure so doing the ink thing wouldn’t work also the last where you were talking about using Riko as bait that would ruin the whole point for Reg going into the abyss in the first place if she died

Yeah I'll definitely friended him because one, he's capable of feeling emotions, two having an OP living walking weapon as a friend is more beneficial to my own survival, three I absolutely need someone to talk to in order not to go insane because of the hard journey down the abyss.
Also riko is friendly towards everyone. She love inviting everyone to join her group. Even if she randomly found a talking pebble she would definitely invite it to her group even if it's completely useless

Medieval is a bit of a stretch since they clearly have electricity and decent technology, this is more like steampunk or 1910s.
They have near-modern looking ships. Also, Idofront appears to be mostly made with non-relic technology for the most part.
Fun fact: Riko's eyesight is perfectly fine, she has the glasses to prevent herself from getting headaches

I fell in love with the story and animation to the point where I could not even feel anything about kids getting stuffed in cases. This must be the longing that those cave raiders feel. Like moths to a fire, you just can't get enough of the Abyss, with all its wonders & mysteries.
This set of men is simply legendary. I love how you have no qualms about abandoning scores of people, friends and family alike, in the interest of self-preservation. Of course IRL this would be terrible, but it's refreshing that you can just admit it with no fuss at all. I love you guys❤

Just finished the Dawn of The Deep Soul and I’m impatiently waiting for the second season. It was so good. This anime was so beautiful yet dreadfully saddening. I can’t wait to learn more about the Abyss and it’s people.

All you need is some abyssal diving gear and some good weapons. Then you can descend down and get Terminus, so you can do the boss rush.
I like how he just say their name as their attribute like "beard dude" or "blue haired girl". He only says the main character's and/or supporting characters that are very important to the plot their real names.
normally I get a lot anxiety from movies with action but for some reason I can watch these kinds of overviews without getting anxiety

Is our technology actually available in the Made in Abyss world? It always looked more like an 18th or 19th century world, with some exceptions and a lot of steampunk elements. So a lot of the purposed techniques to beat the world wouldn't actually work.
i think deep in the abyss theres advanced technology that can beat the tech from the surface. Reg is the most advanced tech they have there so its not farfetched to say that our tech can exist in the MiA world.

I mean, the manga production stopped about 6 months later after the anime got too popular. The manga is dead and I doubt the anime will ever continue.
@@Mariet31 it was just recently confirmed that there will be a season two with the release date being 2022 in general. It's nothing SUPER concrete like a full date but it's in planning at very least

If you remember it right, a very large squad of whistles with white whistles were sent down there. Everyone without those 2 whistles were massacred down. Some of animals in there possess mind reading ability and will perfectly dodge everything. It won't be that easy as you think.

when I watch the first episode, I was like "aww this is such a cute style!", and later on I feel uncomfortable, still a cute style, but definitely not a cute adventure story I wanted:)

I hope you revisit this if/when the series concludes and Riko and Co. make it to the bottom of the Abyss! It feels like there's some information and details we haven't been told yet that can only exist at the bottom.
I do love this breakdown though, I've tried showing this series to friends but their confusion with the curses and whatnot make it harder for them to get immersed or follow along, so I'm glad this can help break it down if I try showing them the series again!
I can confidently say though that as someone with chronic health issues that I would probably become a less of organs like Mitty from just looking at the Abyss lol! Kudos to these small children for being healthy enough to have these aspirations!

Yep and is a metaphor about human curiosity leading us all down to a path of hell. And its also about science needing sacrifice for the sake of progress.
When Magellan's expedition around the world led to countries enslaved and tortured for centuries,
when the study on nuclear energy paved the way to the creation of the atomic bomb, and etc. All these started from simple curiosity.
A character from the show, Bondrewd, is literally the embodiment of this message. And hes a badass.

Damn, seeing made in abyss content anyware just makes me smile, it is probably my favoroute anime and manga series ever, especially from a channel that i quite enjoy
That moment Rico's blood leaked out of here ears and eyes was one of the biggest slap in my anime watching experience. And the way she had to got her arm broken, then cut, with that fruit knife, by her best friend, was a one two punch after a slap. This anime hits hard and remind you that it's not a kid's show.

Well, Reg specifically has his memories wiped and is essentially guilt-tripped into helping Riko, who was the person he interacted with for the first and longest time after he woke up, which definitely would have caused him to form some sort of dependency on her. Sure, he can survive on his own, but not knowing anything about his surroundings and being deprived of any social interaction after he's had a taste for it would certainly mess with him mentally.
Why would you go to hell to “find your mother”. Pretty much sure she’s dead. I love my mom but come on.

Normal people wouldve thought that but not Riko. Riko was born on the Abyss technically making her "Made in Abyss" and as the saying goes "All that comes from the Abyss, returns to the Abyss". Its not just a cool proverb, its a literal curse and there will be no exceptions. Sooner or later it will be true and Riko proves it.
Riko is using her potentially dead mother as an excuse to satisfy her inherent desire to return to the Abyss. As you read/watch through the series you'll see how much Riko's goals change and all those goals relate to going down to the very bottom of the Abyss. Reg is the same.

The red slip was not from her mother, but the leader of the orphanage who knew they were about to escape and decided to give them a headstart before going out to try and capture them as their so to say... graduation ceremony from being apprentices
The curse of the abyss actually does not take effect until AFTER you ascend. It is purely the ascension that causes you to suffer the effects of the curse, going down only causes you to suffer fatique, which is what Riko is feeling.
