Bike Park Season Baby!! Opening weekend at Spirit Mountain was great until it wasn't...

- Bike park season has arrived! Jess and I are out at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, MN on opening weekend. We are both riding the Specialized Status 160 and loving it. Also met the couple behind Rama Components and gave us some grips to put on J's bike which she really liked, both the color and feel.
Some trails were more wet than others and some were still closed but it was damn good to hit some DH and take the lift back up. Smorg and Moonman were running real good while Monkey was pretty messy. At the end of the day Blaster got the best of J Girl though. She went down and landed on a rock straight to the rib cage. She was able to slow roll down a ski run and we stopped at urgent care on the way back home. She ended up with a fractured rib but was good otherwise besides a few bumps and bruises. So unfortunately she's off the bike for awhile but she'll be back and rippin' in no time.

Looks like a fun place to ride!! I feel bad for that incident....Whenever i go to bike parks or do some enduro trails with lifts os assistance I always wear a chest/back protector you hardly notice it when you are downhilling and it definetely helps in a crash! Have a good grip!

Rad day at spirit until it wasn’t! That rider went for the bigger side hit on smorgasbord instead of the usual 10 foot overshoot on the smaller straight on jump, I’ve never attempted that side hit. J was crushing it and hope she heals up soon, broken bones are no fun…
The day checked all the boxes. Yeah that side hit works but it comes up real quick

Yeah for sure haha! She cracked one rib but is healing up nicely. Definitely will get some laps in!

Nice ride until.... yeah bro life caught up to me and had my right wrist fused in September from a surgery 2 years ago that was worth the try but failed. Neuropathy in my left leg, from an old injury, exploded and got me put in Mayo for another major surgery. Sporting a cain at this point and hoping to just roll around the parking lot at this point!! Good riding brother, hope Jgirl recovers quick as possible.

She’s healing up. Yeah all this rain kinda sucks. Looks like more this weekend in Duluth. I’d be surprised if spirit opens this weekend. Hopefully it’ll be good to go for the next weekend 🤞🏻

Jess did. I bought a complete used from a buddy for an insane deal. I switched out all the components and then Jess bought the frame and used the parts from mine to build it up. We both love the bike.

7:48 after that step down, do you use any brakes before the side hit? I did it once last year but I forgot the speed
definitely brakes if you do the straight hit, but i bet the side hit doesnt need any

No brakes for the side hit. The dude behind me hit some brake and that’s why he went down
