- Come check out a few of my SPS frags that I have now had in my Red Sea Reefer for roughly 90 days. In this video, I will show you what kind of growth progression an average hobbyist can expect to achieve. I am not so sure my corals are growing too quickly, but I can say that they appear to be healthy! I think things may really take off over the next 3 months...
Great update 🔥👌💯✌️
Thank you @queencityreefs!
This growth for new tank is actually good. i can see that halides gives the extra punch!!
Nice growth. Also on your Coraline algae too
Can talk about flow for polop extension & nitrate & phosphate. Do you dose kalcwassser
I have a few other videos that touch on some of these. My goal is random flow, but I do have some LPS, so flow isn’t as strong as I would like it (there are periodic rests). Nitrate I am happy with 5-15 and phosphate just needs to be readable. I don’t worry too much about phosphate unless it is 0 or >0.1. I do dose kalkwasser and two part to help maintain alk, ca, and ph. Hope that helps!
Are the initial photos from when the frags were just introduced to the tank or have been in the tank for a while?
Hey @StubbyAcro, they had been in there maybe 2-3 weeks before I took these pics. Gave them time to recover from shipping stress, etc.
Amazing growth, how do get that amount of polyp extension ?
To be honest, not sure I do anything special. Random flow seems to help, but mostly I focus on stability, feeding my fish often, and making sure my RODI is pristine - I change out filters and membrane more often than most.
@@zburnreefing how often are you doing water changes?
@@TonysCorals I try to be pretty consistent and do them every week. I know that there are many successful reefers that don't change much water and dose trace instead. I just feel like my corals always look their best and perk up after a water change so have stuck with it.
@@zburnreefing I agree I think water changes help a lot especially when a tank is maturing! I have my LFS do a 50% once a month on my 200 gallon. The corals always look happy after. The ones that have bad polyp extension tend to have better extension after
Ypu know whats weird.. is i have a purple bonsai like in the pic before the video.. that ive jad for about 6 years now.
And all its done is grown over my entire rock i put it on. Like basket ball sized rock.. but flat and it hasnt grown up. It jist grows accross all of it. Its weird
Dang, that is really weird. That is exactly what I don’t want to happen, lol. Did you try cutting it or fragging it some to promote upward growth? Getting good flow?
my red planet grows so quick. lots of encrusting at first.
I was thinking about snipping the main branch to see if I could trigger some upward growth, but sounds like I just need to be patient 😝
