I hope you enjoyed my descent into milk madness.
There are FOUR unaired (and *cough* unfinished) episodes available exclusively on Patreon and TH-cam memberships.
Next week's deep dive on bambara nuts (and bambara nut milk) is also now available for members. Otherwise it should be live for free on Sunday.

nice one
Btw a lot of those are made in the same factory as elmhurst products
The spaghetti western intro was hilarious :) Even though they already made almond milk in the Middle Ages, I still find it hard to believe that your cashew and almond milk has nothing but nuts, water, sugar. Here in Germany, every brand of plant milk has a ton of additives so that it wouldn't break etc.
Ah yes nut milk
Have you tried Silk "Nextmilk"?
Impressive that the thumbnail is not photoshopped, but actually stacked cartons. 👍
Many milks were harmed in the making of this series.
So many milks.
So much harm.
This channel is like the best late 90’s pbs show that never was. It’s so informative yet entertaining. Thank you so much for making these videos Jared.
Late night PBS is something to aspire to. Thank you.
90 minutes? I wish I had a popcorn warning
Every hemp milk I’ve had tasted like the person who made it hated their customers
hate is the second ingredient, hemp the 3rd; it is mostly loathing
@@IamsTokiWartooth It did say it contains 60% of your daily value of hate... and the serving size was only 1/2 a cup. So it makes sense.
The seeds themselves are less than tasty to start with... You can't make something good if the core of what you make it from, is trash taste to begin with.
Hemp papers/blunt wraps taste awkward aswell and just make me really want to cough..
Think hemp should be saved for making rope haha
I think hemp milks 'notes of alfalfa and burlap dust' will always be too much for most.
Your "Cloudberry" video actually, I think, was the first one of yours I watched. Probably part of that viral crowd that swarmed your channel.
omg i thought you abandoned this series 😂 i can't believe you started it 4 years ago! still very entertaining, looking forward to your descent.
I just learned about potato milk. I've never seen it for sale. They have it in Sweden, apparently.
I need to try this now.
I think they made a joke about it in Phineas and Ferb. Doesn't even sound real.
There's some recipes online, though i'm not sure how the compare to the Swedish product. I've made it and I like it. Really good in a smoothie. Like all these plant based milks though, it's a give and take with pros and cons. I seriously think the best option is mixing several to combine their best characteristics.
Potato Milk???!!! 🧠💢🌌
I never would have thought....
it's probably great...::😂
I'm several years sober, but as a once frequently vodka based alcoholic, a potato milk and vodka drink sounds very dangerous and would be called a::::........???
@@WeirdExplorer1:26:32 which movie 🍿🎥 is it ?! And try hog nut 🥜 native to us !
This is the weirdest anime tournament arc I've ever seen.
Ngl when I saw this new video at first I was excited for all new fake milk face off videos, but a compilation of the old ones with bonus features is still exciting in its own right.
came here to stay the saaaaame thing
There better be a ketchup made in this episode...
Heinz
I mean ketchup is a broad category, so a nut based ketchup might be possible.
There was but the pandemic took it from us. Sir Kensington Ketchup. If you find it, buy it. it was amazing.
@@zackweiler1397 they have/had a ketchup? I love that mayo
Mmm. Milk alternative ketchup
I've got an easy winner for you when it comes to coffee and baking desserts, Aroy-D Coconut Milk, found at nearly every asian grocery store. Has almost the same fat content as half & half (I've even made it into whipped cream by stabilizing it with gelatin), the fat doesn't separate and clump up, and it doesn't melt and form an oil slick on top of your coffee. If you like the taste of coconut then it's just outright better than real half&half in every possible way
I'm only 23 minutes into this and, omg, your face offs and endings are wonderfully entertaining! (Also, I'm old so, thus far, I get the references.)
Ok, 47 minutes in, and so impressed that you managed to work out the fight scene from They Live (might've been able to work in your cat's eyes for the female love interest.) RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper!
Sarah to Jared "You have no power over me!"
The Thing reference was both hilarious and frightening- well done!
Wish I knew what movie you were referencing in the final battle, but I've no idea. That said, it was hilarious! And yes, Bart Simpson drank plenty of Malk, yet still had bone health issues!
Congrats on the marriage! Loved all of the cinematic references; making a compilation video was definitely the way to go.
I would easily watch an entire season two of this but I think I’m in the minority here 😅 this was a fantastic cut of all the episodes though, thank you. It was a blast rewatching these and with the added context
The best vegan milk in my opinion is milk made from chufas. In Spain they call it horchata de chufas. When you make it at home the milk is naturally sweet, creamy and full of natural prebiotics. It’s easy to make, although you have to soak the chufas for two days.
I agree I have just bought a pack of six cartons from Amazon. Here in the UK chufa are called tiger nuts and it is quite easy to grow(soak them in water for approx 24hrs before planting). They are the underground rhizomes of Cyperus esculentus.
"The Good Son"
I really enjoyed these videos when you first posted them. They are fun and clever. It was worth another watch.
I used to be able to name every nut milk that there was. And it used to drive my cat crazy, because she used to say, "Jared ‘Weird Explorer’ Rydelek, if you don't stop naming nut milks," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start meowing. I'd say, "Peanut milk. Hazelnut milk. Cashew nut milk. Macadamia nut milk." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nut milks!" And Kitty used to be able to make the sound, she couldn't talk, but she'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut milk. Pine nut milk, which is a nut milk, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut milk. Red pistachio nut milk. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut milk.
This turned into a David Lynch movie. Dig it.
When I saw the little hats, I barked with laughter.
Yes! I loved these videos and I'm glad to have commentary/behind the scenes look at them now. The creativity and the amount of work you put into the film reference fight sequences really came through.
It's so funny that I have just watched the hole milk substitute playlist today and a bit later the same day you are posting this video. Now I had the opportunity two watch everything twice. Thank you so much for this milk series. It really made my day (twice). I'm really looking forward to watching the incomplete new videos.
Oohhh goodie, I get to rewatch you spiral into despair over alternative milks again...lol
I really enjoyed your creativity and experimentation in this series! Thanks for the supercut and commentary.
This is totes adorbs. TY for making and posting it here.
Next video: baking contest with milk alternatives.
And egg alternatives.
Before I even watch: dang that's a fun thumbnail
I knew I saved those cartons for a reason.
This was *impossibly* entertaining.
I watched this weeks Bambara Nut video and laughed my socks off at the nut-milk fight. It was simply brilliant. Best thing I'd seen in months and months.
And then I watched this video (initially, I'd been put off because it's 90 mins long).
Best hour and a half I have spent this year.
Obviously, the simple coparisons between different plant-based milks was really interesting.
But the Fake Milk Face-offs just made my soul sing.
I can't remember when I enjoyed a TH-cam video more.
Sir, this was pure, unadulterated genius and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The Ripple milk baby rocking in a crib made from his Ripple mom's skin was traumatizing! 48:30
Really loved all the behind the scenes info and references of what you were going through mentally and your evolution on YT at the time!
This was great, how were you able to make this topic so entertaining?! The movie references were hilarious!!
My favorite was the labyrinth reference, I also love that movie. 😆 This was fun to watch! Thank you for the time and all the work and thought that went into making all of these.
you are just the greatest person ever. Love you and your sense of humor and dedication to this channel.
Right around 1:09 I actually jumped lol. You are a hoot. I also was part of that cloudberry crowd. Glad to have found your channel. Thanks!
Omg yes, I have been waiting for this!
Huh this was actually really fun! I believe i also subbed around the pandemic I think because my Filipino friend said theres more types of Durian and naturally that lead me here, but I had no clue you were doing horror milk-alternative parody shorts. Like I remember the cloudberry video hitting my feed, but not these, and I'm glad i saw them now after the dragon fruit tournament. You have great taste... In horror movies btw
I love when the drama intensifies. lol. Those bits are so good.
The Alien reference was absolutely fantastic!!!
great content as always!
I was taking a nap listening (not watching) and I heard baby crying-and thought..ok better check it out!
So clever + amusing! Nice work!
Super interesting. And super funny as well as amazingily creative. :D
Thanks for these videos!
1:00:45 "These days, movies that are coming out are doing the opposite. People who know what they're doing are making something, but they're not really trying."
Excellent point that perfectly encapsulates something I've been trying to put into words for years! It really demonstrates the importance of effort (putting a piece of yourself in it) when making art, not simply proficiency.
Im very grateful that even tho this is long ,i wasnt at all bored or tempted to turn off.You do great vids and i thank you.Your wife is a blessed woman.❤
I would absolutely watch an entire season 2! Honestly even without the faceoffs, but i love those toon
The nut milk action sequences give me so much early TH-cam energy and fills me with joy
I loved that series! I always remember them! Amazing, past year I planted bambara for the first time, it was amazing!
aww I love it I've just been rewatching the last plant milk wars recently too
I'm not a vegan by any means, but I've never thought milk was that impressive. The only "alternative" I've ever enjoyed is unsweetened almond milk, but I don't use it in the traditional ways we use milk in the US. I just drink it. Real milk kind of drove me away from any other foods and drinks it's normally used in.
What are the non traditional ways you use it? Curiouser and curiouser
@@MelodyL I just drink it. I swear. 🤣😂🤣😂
So you basically made a movie by stitching all of these episodes together.
An hour an 30 minutes movie of his dissent into madness
I don't think there's a single best alternative. Depends on the application. Some things favor one, some favor another. Coconut milk is my favorite for soups and sauces, oat for coffee, cashew for ice-cream, almond for cereal or drinking straight.
I didn't know i needed this
The carton skits and movie references were absolutely hilarious and worth the cringe
So so good! I was in Beijing in 2020 and internet was spotty because China. I am so happy that you decided to re-edit these and put them together in a long form. Again so very good
The cowboy hats on the milk was adorable.
I like oat milk :)
Worst choice. It’s 1/3 canola oil
@@kochspostulates6149you mean 3 per cent??
@@markus_selloi goats milk is fantastic. And it makes AMAZING cheese and dairy products! And raising goats is far more affordable than dairy cows.
@@JonHop1 it is only real milk, when i can succ it directly from the host. But that oatly do be hitting
i discovered your channel during Covid XD
I love this whole experience so much 😂
A man, a plan: handful of almonds, a thumb of vanilla bean paste, a blender, and 30 oz of distilled water. Blend full speed for 30 seconds.. pour contents into strainer and into your favorite almond milk container. Enjoy
Simple but sometimes simple is good.
I’m with you. Won’t buy nut milks anymore. It’s even good without vanilla just a pinch of salt and done nothing else needed!
Look like it was fun by the "behind the scenes"footage.😂❤
I had to comment again after watching all of this video. It really brought back bad and sad memories of covid. I also didn't know that the cloud berry video was so popular. I guess because it isn't rare here in Newfoundland. I grew up on the Burin Peninsula, so there were bakeapples (cloud berries) all around me on the bogs.
Interesting seeing all the different types of advertising for the different kinds of milk lol
Also the movie homages are amazing, I didnt get the labyrinth and they live ones tho, or the last one
Never knew about this series before lol
10:05 "get me a drink, bartender"
love it!
The episode based on The Thing was brilliant 😂
I had to stop the video and go try to find out who in my house was screaming
The Labyrinth opening made me cackle -- brilliant.
Final movie is The Good Son. Sad there's no second season, but it is perfect just as it is.
A deep dive into milk alternatives AND an odyssey on ones mans journey to insanity?! Count me in :D
Dear Mr. Jared:
Hello, this is Yubin Lee. Hope you're doing well.
I just felt that, regarding to video making, you are not just a vlogger who travels around the world and eats exotic fruits, but a movie director (kind of...?) because between every matches of this video, the moment how defeated nut milks got their punishment (and death), I could imagine your written scripts or sketches about them.
The real question is... Have you ever had a dream to become a movie director - like James Rolfe (Cinemassacre), who is famous for The AVGN and a horror movie nerd?
Finally, thank you for your videos which made me curious about fruits, and answering the question in advance!
Best regards,
Yubin Lee.
So this is basically Weird Explorer's version of Bo Burnham's "Inside" but without the original music. Getting creative whilst going stir-crazy is a talent I guess.
We use the milkadamia the most out of the nut milks. We like it. We use the unsweetened one. I had no idea all of those ingredients were in there and I have never noticed a vitamin taste. It just tastes tropical to me. We like it with cold and hot cereals. We use it in some baking recipes when the tropical taste doesn't interfere. Otherwise, we prefer planet oat milk extra creamy; especially if making hot chocolate. We use cashews and water to make cashew cream, if a dish calls for cream. If cooking, we often use soy milk, unless we're making Thai food, then we use coconut milk. They all have different strengths and uses.*We like Oatly Ice Cream. *For egg nog substitute, we like Elmhurst Oat Nog.
The best milk alternative is to own a cow and milk it yourself.
This video is like archeological records from an era that has been long buried in the history of my mind.
Might be a coincidence, but a popular game called Valheim has cloudberries as an in game item and released about 3 months after your cloudberry video. A sudden influx of people searching for an unusual fruit may have boosted your videos presence in the algorithm. When I was playing the game I thought it was a fictional fruit, so seeing a video like yours would have been an insta-click for me and I think that's how I found your channel. I wonder if that had anything to do with the sudden popularity of that video.
Very creative ❤
Earth’s Own Oat Original or Earth’s Own Barista Edition Oat Milk
Every time he says milk, I'm reminded of the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre's rendition of _Macbeth,_ where they always referred to it as "human kindnessmilk".
Here's the explanation for a couple of the ingredients that'll be added to a lot of the products:
Lectin: Works to stop the layers from separating when heated or mixed with other liquids.
Celulose/xantam/any other gum: thickening agent. Intends to make the texture and mouth-feel closer to milk. Also helps with foaming for baristas/coffee shops.
Vegetable oils: Trying to replicate the specific mouth feel/texture that fat gives to milk. Also helps with the foaming.
Vitamins/minerals: Seed/nut milk tends to be way less nutritionally rich than actual milk, so it's trying to help out in that aspect. Some legislations also require food with low nutritional qualities to divulge so on the packaging, so they might be trying to avoid doing that.
We were all going a little bit crazy back then.
That. Was epic.
To be honest I would never consume any milk replacers, however I would gladly watch this review let’s go haha
i'm not the type to ever notice wedding rings. so congrats! awesome to see you find a partner in your "TINY Transforming "Gothic Mansion" Apartment"!
Surprised the cat didn't get to vote in each round...
excellent thumbnail!
Never thought I'd see someone pull focus on milked cashews. No judgement. I am glad to experience new things 😃
Weird Explorer Director’s Commentary
did anyone guess "the good son" for the last movie? had blocked that movie out of my mind.
These were brilliant. Sorry for your mental health, but you channelled it well! The winner, of course, is Oatly Barista.
You should make a special "Carton Story" finale to the series. In it all the cartons go to rescue the winner from you who is mutilating them like that evil kid from Toy Story. They go on an adventure and at the end you die or something, like that evil kid from toy story (the kid didnt die, but that's just because they had to keep the movie broad)
would love to see things like Ripple and Next Milk compared in the future
this is the best competition since the Karate Kid
Well that was... entertaining. I don't watch old movies like you do so most of your references were lost in me but the Psycho one had me rolling on the floor 😂 I use almond milk to make lattes, maybe since it's warmed that helps it not clump. So far it's the lowest in carbs
Good work on the thumbnail
I'm lactose intolorent so I mostly use oat, coconut, or almond milk in my smoothies, i dont really drink milk stright anymore. Soy milk is super popular in Thailand and I drink it pretty frequently these. My partner drinks cows milk and i always forget what "gone off" dairy milk smells like so if i ever need to bake with it I always have to ask my partner if they think it's gone off. If you come back to thailand I know you like going to the fruit markets, but if you go into the big supermarkets like BigC or Robinson theres a really good selection of non-dairy milks. Vamino is my chocolate milk of choice but lactoysoy is very popular with students.
The alien one was so well made i recognized it at the first shake.
Very interesting series. I drink regular cow milk (or mainly just use it in cereal and coffee) but am fascinated by all these other "milks"
What works for me in my coffee (and easily available) based on my taste pallet is the oat mik.
I never really liked cows milk. It always tasted bad to me. But I liked these videos. Maybe just do the taste off for the next round? I’d love to see the next round and subsequent winner. 🏆
Hair on cloud berry was nice
Do you have a Letterboxd, I want to see your reviews on movies now
