So not only is she starting her sentence on a high note which requires preparation, she was also singing an octave lower just beforehand

idk if you guys know this about her but she had a overdose (heroin) back in 2018 resulting in two strokes, a heart attack and mutiple organs failire and then CAME BACK with this vocals.. she rested her voice for about 2 years and came back from all the sh*t she gone throught so much better it's insane because she was already an amazing vocalist. The pinch, the squeak. Tori Kelly has that quality too. Demi, along with these two share that raspy or airy quality to their voices.

True! She also probably worked with someone to sing with more efficient technique. I know Adele did that after her vocal surgery.
