      😂 how many can you do normally though? I can do at least 3 then rounding off of the shoulders occur on the next reps.. I think I really need a band for a healthy rep range for that movement.

    Great video with very good advice.
    One important thing too is hand placement. People always told me to have a wide grip since I have long arms.
    The problem is that with a wide grip my range of motion was limited by my scapula touching each other.
    Switching to a narrower grip definitely made things better since my range of motion wasn't limited anymore.

  • @ValSekk

    Great tips! If anyone have still issues with the movement. You can try to do an exercise with a stick or on the pull up bar with a chair just change the angle of your arms and squeeze them on the top part. The feeling of pulls up(neck level) vs pulls up (chest level) will feel really different,do it a couple times and let the brain memorize it,it will come more naturally after a while. Especially the shoulder and triceps involvement feels totally different.

    I can do chin ups chest to bar and hold for several seconds, but can't do a single chest to bar pull up. I think I am just not strong enough for the movement. With the chin up you get more biceps assistance, and even some pec engagement too. But with the pronated grip the assistance comes from forearm muscles which are much weaker - then your back has to do pretty much all the work. Will try to incorporate some of the exercises/progressions in this video, thanks.

    Yo, I have been doing the basics of everything(calisthenics) since September when I got a pull-up bar, the detachable kind you can put on the door. I have been doing holds or hangs. Don't underestimate how much work these put on the body. Now I can hold a pull-up, rotate or swing, hang upside down (though not perfect). My arms are just stronger from hanging. This has make me more patient overall, and want to do everything very slowly.

      @iansimon6964 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a comment I just wrote, thought you might find it interesting ;)
      In my opinion you are missing a reason. I think me struggle with chest to bar pull ups comes from a lack of mobility. Let me explain. When I depress my scapulas on retraction, I feel an intense stretch along my collarbone area. It takes quite some effort to full depress them. So this is an extra resistance on top of my bodyweight that I have to overcome in order for my chest to Tuch the Bar in a pull up.
      This also messes with the strength curve, because it makes the top position even more difficult. So I have a hard time getting a satisfying workout with pull-ups performed with a full range of motion.
      So maybe consider mobility to when struggling with this movement guys and gals :)

      @@SaturnoMovement I'm wondering how is a chest to bar pull up helping the muscle up ? It seems that the muscle up uses a hollow body, and there's little scapula retraction compared to a neutral body or arched back pull up like you do here? I'm not trying to be a dick I'm genuinely curious about it.

    I'm a woman in my 40s, just got a set of 10 bodyweight chin ups a week ago. It takes me 5x (at least) as long as everyone else to progress in calisthenics but I put the timelines completely out of my mind and just take it a day at a time. I'm having the time of my life. I'm excited to work on CTB pullups next.

    I’m roughly 4 months in to my calisthenics journey. Greatly appreciate your channel!
    Question: are chest to bar LAT pull-downs effective for chest to bar pull ups and muscle up training?

    I can do 10 pull ups and 12 to 15 straight bar dips but still can't do muscle ups and high pullups could you give me any advice?
    I can do 3 to 4 muscle ups with 60kg resistance band but need little support for transition

    To be honest I dont remember trying to get chest to bar pull Up, It simply happened I dont remember When, Because of Seeing that many videos of Adam about It, encourage me to do them more And now I do a lot of reps more than 10 chest to bar in a row, never tried Max tho, I just do them for warm Up to do weighted pull ups. I also never have to train for my first pull Up already could do pull ups, I might be genetically good for pull ups, but to get one arm pull up I am struggling a lot, more than a year training It and still cant rep one

      Sounds like you have the strength & mobility necessary to accomplish this movement. Great job 👏

    Q: do these chest to bar progression steps help increase the lat recruitment?

  • @irky3
    @irky3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am wondering what my problem is then.
    I can do chest to bar with:
    - chin-ups (even weighted ones)
    - neutral grip pull-up
    - close grip pull-up
    I can't do it only with normal pullups where the grip with is shoulder width or a bit more than shoulder width :)

      Have you tried testing it out with a stick? You might just be missing some mobility to achieve the full range of motion. If you do all the tests shown in the beginning, you should have little to no problem getting the chest-to-bar pullup. - Gala

    Out of shape guy here, and I'm working on the first technique, but my shoulders crack and pop while bringing the bar down to my chest which hinders my ability to do pull ups. Any ideas on what causes this and what I can do to remedy it? I really want to incorporate pull ups into my workouts. Thanks.
