This is definitely my favorite series on Donut and it's so helpful because Zach always does projects and upgrades that are doable and realistic for the average person. The idea of low-key, inexpensive but impactful mods to cars is right up my alley.
I guess Zach just forgot to mention it, that this change also works the other way around. If you start experiencing vibration over time, mostly through the seats while even sitting still at the light in neutral, it's almost certain your mounts are shot to bits. It gets worse if they are oil filled or hydraulic ones. They progressively worsen. Changing them with new brings back the comfort. And always change them all at the same time, don't try to cheap out by just changing one - this will really bite you in the ass. It's like changing the brake calipers only on one side of the car.
Great fix. And great note about avoiding cross-threading. I've found the best way to ensure thread match is to set up the fastener as if I'm ready to tighten (with forward pressure), slowly turn in the direction of loosen until I feel the click, and then turn to tighten. Most nuts & bolts can be blind-aligned this way with little hassle.
@@kennethkruse9267 There's also the issue of a lack of commas, including the period that you mentioned, which shouldn't be a period. Add to that the unnecessary use of the space bar, and a superfluous and incorrect use use of all-caps outside of the quote-which should be replaced with an exclamation mark. Here's what fixing the problems looks like: 'When he said, “BHA WAAAAAAON,” I felt that!' But really, I'm just being sarcastic. The original comment, however incorrect in punctuation and grammar, was sweet. :)

Lower engine until passenger side was lined up, then make tiny adjustments w/ jack until I could get engine to line up on drivers side and bolt bracket to block. I just rebuilt the entire front end of my car, need to replace the rear motor mount and the front strut tower brace. Super fun project, learned alot, took about 4 days now I'm just waiting for a chance to adjust the suspension to the right ride height and dampening and I'll be set. The PMM alone made a noticable difference as the oem one was totally shot
Replaced my engine mounts and a couple of other stuff on my car and it really improved the car a lot as the OEM ones allowed the engine to move a lot. So now Im one step closer to be done with my GT build :D Love all content you at Donut Media upload, really made my days a lot more fun and my motivation to peek!
You;re so right about the change of feeling. I concedentally had to swap 2 of the 3 engine mounts in my car a few weeks ago. It's 20 years old and i got oil all over the mounts because i;m an idiot. I got the new ones in and it feels so much tighter i'm amazed it can feel like that. The mounts were already off when i got it so i never experienced it like that. Even the cluth and shifter feel more precise.
3:40 I like how Zach didnt stop talking when he realized the jack wasn't twisted tight and just keeps talking and tightens it like he didn't pump it and nothing happened😂 Really enjoying this series!
You gotta wonder if the aftermarket mounts could be improved to suck some noise while making the connection more rigid. Good series, been watching all of the episodes in a row after finding it and learning some key elements about car build.
2 years late but I had an idea that I have yet to see anyone do(correct me if im wrong though). Its hard to describe but i'll try. Use some very large and soft mounts to absorb as much vibration as possible. Then have a polyurethane or steel rod inside the rubber mount that barely touches the engine. Then, using a tiny motor and a very high torque gear ratio, move the rod up to press against the engine harder. This could be controlled in the car so that when you cruise, you can have a soft ride, and when you want to go "sport mode" you can press a button. I always wondered why cars haven't implemented this yet.
I literally was trying to decide engine mounts for my mazdaspeed and after watching, I went with the Innovative mounts; they installed just as easy and slick as they did on Zach's Miata.
Javin Jahangir He is supporting the extension, keeping the fulcrum in line with the head of the head of the wrench, hence is the torque going into the extension correct.

Lower engine until passenger side was lined up, then make tiny adjustments w/ jack until I could get engine to line up on drivers side and bolt bracket to block. Big improvement, I went with the mazda comp mounts.
Dude how you made this so fun and interesting I'll never know. 10/10
Zach you’re a great host. Hope your there for the next season of hi low (you should do a lancer evo)

"This is the way you're supposed to do it, but that sucks, so we're gonna do it a different way and pray for the best" is the most real project car shit ever.
I love money pit like damn zach literally makes it very easy
11:42 something fell off the trunk
Where? And isnt the trunk in the back of the car?
Yes when hes driving he forgot something on the trunk
What was it!?!
It had an antenna on it whatever it was
Looks like something strapped to the back seat.
I have learned so much watching Money Pit .
Zack explains every thing so well .
Gives me so many new goals . Thanks Zack. Great work car is looking good.
Lowkey my favorite show, after Up to Speed 😎
"It moves all over the place!"
Me: *laughs in 45 year old engine mounts that the motor moves 2 inches minimum on idle
“The juice has been worth the squeeze.” I like that!
Replaced my engine mounts and a couple of other stuff on my car and it really improved the car a lot as the OEM ones allowed the engine to move a lot. So now Im one step closer to be done with my GT build :D
Love all content you at Donut Media upload, really made my days a lot more fun and my motivation to peek!
This show got me thinking and when im gonna be 18 im gonna buy a Miata we have one in town and itss soo sweeet car i love it 🥺❤
yea youre right but the trunk is small as fuck.
Someone needs a 4 cylinder mustang
2:48 thought I saw a baby hand come out of nowhere 😅
Bruh😂
3:40 I like how Zach didnt stop talking when he realized the jack wasn't twisted tight and just keeps talking and tightens it like he didn't pump it and nothing happened😂
Really enjoying this series!
I changed mine in my 3000gt its got them pop ups
Sick bro I have a 91 vr4, how much difference do the motor mounts make?
@@pedromata133 dont question it, get all of them poly. Maybe even diff bushings if your vr4 has them
Oh wow I did the same to my VR4! I did it when I yanked the motor for a tad bit of service, but I went with OEM mounts, not poly.
@@pedromata133 A lot the stock ones made the engine move so much and the car just feels smoother now
Here's me looking into them left night and boom!
Donut media helps out 😁
I have a red 1989 Mazda Miata N/A and most of it is stock so this series is what will get me through the summer. So helpful and entertaining
5:00 laughed so hard. One of those 'I could have died' laughs. Lesson learned haha
I literally was trying to decide engine mounts for my mazdaspeed and after watching, I went with the Innovative mounts; they installed just as easy and slick as they did on Zach's Miata.
4:45 peep the nail holding the jack handle together 😂
Mo’Power - mo’ engine movement baby! - and the old mounts are too soft - this is a great subject.
It was the best upgrade to my speed3. Motor mounts, turbo inlet, intake. Worth every dime
10:25 Torque is definitely not accurate on that lol
Javin Jahangir He is supporting the extension, keeping the fulcrum in line with the head of the head of the wrench, hence is the torque going into the extension correct.
@@jonasthemovie and then proceeds to slam the wrench to the concrete floor
the last time i came this early my wife left me for zach
Money pit series is hands down already my favorite on the channel, love the content, can’t wait to see where it goes!
I've been wanting to do this on my Saturn sky. I think while I'm in there I'll throw in an LS
When your engine mount is just to the left side of the engine and all you have to do it's jack it up... That's me lmao
you have fwd, you have it on the left side, also in the rear and in front
im using this series to determine what parts to buy of my 1990 1.6 miata. its been great help
James do a up to speed on chrysler
And one on Plymouth (RIP).
They should also reach out to Ralph Gilles of FCA cause he's super cool
Lmao they should do just FCA, a long episode. It’ll be about their sh*tty interior quality🤣
@@streetboyz1096 and all their electrical bullshit..💩
