    I've seen the same issue with every model of these upright walkers: the seat. The way the seat juts out prevents the user from getting directly between the armrests. So, their knees brush up against the edge of the protruding seat, causing them to slightly lean over in order to rest their arms on the armrests and get closer to the frame for support.
    The seat should have been a flip up or fold down design to allow the user to get closer to the frame and position themselves between the arms, and the armrest length shortened to align the user's elbows with their shoulders, affecting a proper upright position (hence the reason why so many elderly and others are able to walk upright while pushing a grocery cart: the flat front allows them to "hug" the cart's handles for stability).

    • @ks5831
      @ks5831 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see the exact problem with the seat. The armrests need to be farther back to allow elbows to be beside the torso; not towards the front. The user is still having to lean forward to walk. I'd prefer a posterior design of this walker. I LOVE that ALL the WHEELS rotate giving true natural walking turns. And, they all have locking position, too.

    This is going to re-open my Mom's world. It looks like it can handle light trails in the woods. My Mom has not been able to walk in the woods for so long. Not only that, but just regular walks are going to be so good for her. I almost want to cry, I'm so excited to get this for her.
    The short walker we have for her has never been very helpful because she needs support for her upper back, even though she is only 5 '3. And I never understood what tall people were supposed to do with those short walkers.
    This is a much needed product for so many people. I wish everyone could afford one. I'm going to bust my budget, but I'm getting this!

    • @bwsmyhero
      @bwsmyhero ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The short walker could have been adjusted to his height so he wouldn’t have been bent over as he was in the video. Walkers are all height-adjustable. That’s not really their problem. The problem with them is, too much pressure is placed on the user’s wrists for support. Upwalkers and other similar products depend on the lower arms for support instead, making longer walks possible and more comfortable.

    Ahh! I want one so badly! I’ll need to save up. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and so using my normal walker tends to hurt my wrists! Will definitely mention this to my EDS friends! 💕🙏

    • @bwsmyhero
      @bwsmyhero ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal walkers hurt ANYBODY’S wrists. They’re okay for short little walks, like, say, from the living room to the kitchen, but beyond that, it’s painful for the wrists.

  • @caffysue2
    @caffysue2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This video was very helpful in demonstrating the features of the UpWalker. The demo with the standard/traditional walker was a poor comparison because it wasn't adjusted correctly to fit the user which increased the forward bend. People who are researching the UpWalker already are aware of the limitations of a standard walker.

    • @bwsmyhero
      @bwsmyhero ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. I have a conventional walker, and it can be adjusted to your height so you aren’t bent over. My problem with a walker is not that I’m bent over, it’s that so much pressure is put on the wrists. That’s why I want to get an upright walker like this one. The pressure is taken off your wrists and puts pressure on the entire lower arm, which would be much more comfortable.

    Thanks for a great video. I love everything about this walker…except wheel size. I would prefer pneumatic as I live in a rural area on a private road and my property is dirt, gravel and the road is asphalt. Can the wheels be changed out with either pneumatic or 10-12” wheels? Thanks again for a great and very helpful video.

    I just received mine and am very disappointed. The ad and this vid say it is adjustable to a person 6'5". I am 6'1" and the arm rests are about 3 inches to low. I can't stand upright while using it. It is also poorly made and very wobbly when I put any weight on it. I feel I was misled and to return it they will charge a 10% restocking fee and the lowest shipping cost I could find was $73. So, your 30-day free trial will cost you close to $100. BUYER BEWARE!

    All these 'upwalker' type of mobility walkers are American. I live in the UK and I don't know why no one in the UK has made any like this. The reason I'd rather buy one from a UK seller is because just in case I wanted to return it, it wouldn't cost as much for the return postage.

      I don’t think it’s covered by Medicare Part B. At any rate, you’d have to pay for it upfront, and then inquire about any possible reimbursement with your insurance. But I don’t believe Medicare pays for it because they wouldn’t consider it medically necessary. I wish they did, because I’m on Medicare, too.

      Yes I found it just go to Upwalker.co.uk I rang the helpline in Scotland (where it’s shipped from in about 10 days) to find out about repairs to brakes/wheels; they are of standard size so can be fixed by any bicycle repair shop. Having said that, it has a 6 month warranty anyway, and the body of the Upwalker has a lifetime guarantee! Be great for my posture, less stress on hands/arms and I’ll be able to get out and about again! NB you may be able to get VAT relief, I get it due to diabetes but would also cover long term medical conditions like MS MD Parkinson’s etc. Have a look to see if you qualify at www.gov.uk/guidance/reliefs-from-vat-for-disabled-and-older-people-notice-7017#customer

    • @bwsmyhero
      @bwsmyhero ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. I suspect the idea of showing an elderly person hunching over an unadjusted traditional walker is simply a tactic to make the Upwalker even more appealing. Unfortunately for them, most people would spot the deception right away. It’s eye-roll-worthy, actually! The hunching isn’t the problem for most people who use a traditional walker, though. It’s the pressure it puts on the wrists.
