Seeing you running happily on instagram and youtube has encouraged me to continue being a slow runner. (Now I am a slow half marathon runner.) Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
This video is just what I needed. I’m new to running and really enjoying it but find myself ashamed of my pace. I’m doing the damn thing, that’s what’s important. Thanks for the reminder!
I started with couch to 5km from never ever running and saying "I cant run" but wanted the challenge. I achieved it, I couldn't believe the first time i ran solidly for 20 minutes. I didn't know the pace, was just focused on actually doing it! I then did a few 5kms and struggled a lot, so didn't run for 6 months. Last summer when it was nice I just wanted to run along the beach. I didn't check my distance and went so slow. For the first time ever, I realised I wasn't out of breath and was just enjoying the view and the sun. I loved it! It was the best run i have ever done, and it was 7km (!!!!!! I was thrilled) and my pace was 8:30kmph. That was when I realised I can love running if i take my time. Now i'm doing my first half in May and I cannot wait! My goal is to do it and thats it. Love your insta, love your youtube :)
Run/Walk has always been promoted by Jeff Galloway. I have 'Galloway's Book on Running' from the late 80s/ early 90s and he discusses it at length. Most of my longer runs employ some short walk breaks to reset the legs (and let my dog catch her breath, lol) 😊
Awesome effort getting this far into your training and being so close to your first marathon. When I fronted my first Marathon I was met by a Spartan Marathon Runner who is someone who's run 10+ Marathons at the Melbourne Marathon Festival. He gave me this piece of advice that I've told everyone when they're going for something like this (can apply it to any race distance) "Don't run your first half like an idiot and also don't run your second half like a coward" It can help you get through once you've hit that half way point and start to feel overwhelmed. Stay strong, you've got this.
I also did a cross-country event in school. Came second last (purely because I sprinted the last bit, just so I wouldn't be last). Afterwards, I felt so bad. I only did 100m and this showed me that I couldn't use the same strategy. Can run 10k well now, so it's all about learning and training as you get older. Great to hear about your running journey. Running slow rocks! =D
You inspired me to get a Salomon running vest- I even found a female cut version and LOVE IT 🎉 I've tried several others before, and this is just simply the best. Thank you! ❤
Good luck next week at the Marathon ! 2:42 half marathoner here, i have entered quite a few races 10ks and half marathons over the next few months , my first half i was on a beginner plan and now i am on a advanced onr so interested to see if my times improve 😂
Good luck Emily!! Followed the journey and you and the slow running group on Strava kept me going while I trained for my first half. Enjoy Sunday and celebrate all the hard work you’ve done. I’m on the Runna recovery plan at the minute and it’s so good. Good luck again 😊💫
Hi Emily. I am also a slow runner and had suffered of that too and its just so right to run slow or run/walk to accomplich a longer run that it is to run dead fast. Why should everyone sprint and try to run a marathon i under two hours or three hours and get sick -throw up -get heat-stroke and severe damage to the body. No enjoy your running and run as You can - not as all the other youtubers fight to do and if they dont see them crying or just being an excuse of themselves. Who on earth say that running slower is wrong ?? I got ostoporosis and got a stomi and I am 60 years young now and I am preparing for a half marathon in october. I think I can run a finish time in 2.50 or 3 hours and so that is. I am a completer not a competer. Inga DK.
Finally all caught up, and going to watch your marathon video one more time. Well done!! Really enjoyed your journey and looking forward to any future videos you make.
Great video! Loved it! Subscribed now 😉 Because of some long lasting injury Im kind of slow runner as well, just broke 30min 5k, half trail marathon just under 3hours. And this is after 1.5 year running 🙃😅

@@Runswithemily Awesome to hear !!!, wishing you all the best
Your story about hating running at school really echoes with me! Took until my 30s to figure out that i could enjoy running if i did it for me
Last night I saw plenty of slow runners completing 100 miles at my race… it’s always about the grit and the tenacity!❤
Love it 😍
Good luck Emily!!!
You've got this!
Thank you 😀

There is also the option to get into trail running at some point.
