Running is really life changing. When I started I was very obese so I would just walk, then start running 30 seconds and walking. I slowly started to run longer without resting. I was so happy when I ran 5k in 44min without walking for the first time. It became part of my routine and something I cannot live without. Two years later, and after a lot of weight loss, I was finally breaking into sub 30m 5k. One day I finally did a sub 29m run and I was walking home very sweaty. I walked by a dad and his little daughter, and the girl shouted, "look daddy, an athlete!" and the father replied, "yes, baby." That hit me so hard in that moment that I walked a couple more steps, sat down, and broke down crying. We chase numbers and compare ourselves to other people a lot and forget to appreciate how far we've come. To be mistaken as an athlete after being obese was a huge accomplishment, and that little girl is always my reminder to be grateful for it
I started running in April because of watching your content. Got a 29.22 5k this week and doing my first half marathon next week. You’ve genuinely helped me improve my life, thank you so much 😊
This year was my first year of running post chemotherapy. You've inspired me throughout this year to let go of pace and fall in love with running again. I did a road half and an extremely challenging coast path half as well as my first park run. Looking forward to some big challenges in2025. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart 💚
5 years ago I used to run sub 30 5ks every weekend and it was not even hard. After a break in running from covid I have struggled for 2 years to get sub 30 and the best I’ve done is 30:29. It bothered me for so long but your videos have helped me remember that ultimately I run for mental health purposes 😅
Started running at a similar time, and our running has gone in much different directions, but I love seeing your journey! I love the speedy stuff (got a 23:26 5k pb a few days ago) but I find the long distances really daunting, I've never ran more than 18k yet (however I am doing an October marathon next year). Hope you have a great Christmas!!
I first came across your channel as I was wading through lots of running content when I was preparing to run my first 5k in September. I’m a slow runner, and watching your videos motivated me to run more every week. I’m now preparing to run my first 10k in January and hopefully a half marathon later next year. Your content has been such a huge inspiration-whether it’s your training tips, personal experiences, or just the way you celebrate the joy of running. It’s made me feel like progress matters more than pace, and that every small improvement counts. Thank you for sharing your passion with all of us. I look forward to pushing my limits and sharing in the joy of running, just as you do! ❤
Love your videos and you have really helped me with my running mindset and accepting where I am now. Look forward to continue watching your journey next year! 🏃♀️
Like you, i always hated running until I embraced slow running, & i ran a marathon & 50km this year 🙌 my 5km pb is only marginally under 30 min & my 50km was 7:45 so its interesting your perspective/ expectations on yours Good luck with your year ahead!
I just stumbled upon your channel and found it very relatable and inspiring. I just started running this year and found this video to be a breath of fresh air. All the other runners I follow are super fast and years into it. Hearing you talk about running from a slow and “slightly more than beginner” perspective was awesome. I’m excited to follow along with your journey, Emily!
Hi, I just found your channel and I’m very happy I did. I just started running again this autumn and this time around (as compared to earlier times where I’ve pushed myself to constantly get faster and better and thus started to dread running) I’ve focused on enjoying myself. That has meant more of a slower pace but also that I’ve stayed consistent and built my endurance. Yesterday I ran my first 10k! I think your videos will be a great support as I continue on my journey. And good luck to you as you continue with yours!
Big brother must be watching. I follow you on TikTok and the algorithm just brought me to your TH-cam! You've had a great year. Here's to an even better 2025!
It's a very fulfilling individual journey. I started up running again in January 2024, so similar time frame to you! Most of this year was all about an enjoyable pace and being comfortable going longer distances. I totally exceeded my HM expectations! But also for a change of pace I've been on a new plan with more workouts and threshold paces. It's had a huge impact in improving what paces feel comfortable and ive obliterated my 5k and 10k recently! It may not work for everyone but changing it up has been a fun part of my recent journey.
Aw Emily, it was so lovely to have this pop on randomly in my feed and immediately hear a Northern accent. I live all the way down in Vienna now, so it's rare enough. Happy to hear you're in love with slow, healthy running! Have a great 2025.
I love your videos! They are very encouraging to me as a slow runner. I am looking forward to seeing what the new year holds for you! I’m sure many good runs are in your future!
#teamTalkedforAges Emily, if we don't hear from you again before the big day, Merry Christmas to you, Josh and your families. Thanks for a fun video, helps a lot!
Love that you’re doing weights! I’m 20 years older than you and if I could give my younger self advice, it would be to focus on strength training. I now do 5 days a week weight training and it’s changed my body for the better.
I did my first 10k! From being occasional Sunday morning runner to finishing line it's my biggest achievement so far! It took me 1h13min and I never before managed to get below 1h18min! Absolutely loved that! I couldn't follow any training plans as they were too intense and at some point I lost enjoyment in running so I stopped focusing on getting faster, and just go for one long run on Sunday(8-10k)and one short one midweek(5-7k). Now I'm thinking about half marathon but will see how my knee reacts, as sometimes it starts to bother me after long run(my longest is 12km).
851km?! 8 races?! girl you are awesome!! keep it up! you're such an inspiration! 🔥 i am gonna try and run a PB the first week in Jan for my 10k... just to push myself!
Thank you so much!!!! A big year for me :) oooo that’s exciting, good luck with your attempt!!! 10k is such a hard distance but I’m sure you will smash it
I've really enjoyed your running journey this year, it's been great! Hoping to see what challenges you complete in 2025. Are you going to do another 5k PB attempt? =D
It does sometimes feel that it’s either ‘run fast or else it doesn’t count’ in some parts of the running community. I’m glad I’m more in your type of community

I got a PB on my 5k run today! And did my first 10km race last month and had so much fun!

haha glad i could give you some home comforts
"There is not one correct way to run... try to find your place within running." Love this!
I love your videos! They are very encouraging to me as a slow runner. I am looking forward to seeing what the new year holds for you! I’m sure many good runs are in your future!
Thank you so much
Loved watching your channel Emily and it’ll be great to follow along in 2025. Have a great Christmas 👍
#teamTalkedforAges Emily, if we don't hear from you again before the big day, Merry Christmas to you, Josh and your families. Thanks for a fun video, helps a lot!
Thank you so much Rick. Have a lovely Christmas
Hey good job. And it sounds like you're having fun in the process, which is the key to sticking with it
Thanks so much, totally agree :)
You’re amazing 🤩 thanks for sharing. I used to run a lot but now at 68 I'm more focused in biking.
Thank you!! I'd really like to get into cycling :)
Really enjoyed this video - makes me want to get back into running. I can relate to being a slow runner too :') Even when I was much more into it.
thank you so much :) :)
I have two half marathons planned for 2025 as well. Congrats on your 2024 running journey! 🙂
yay exciting!!!
Love that you’re doing weights! I’m 20 years older than you and if I could give my younger self advice, it would be to focus on strength training. I now do 5 days a week weight training and it’s changed my body for the better.

@@Runswithemily thanks girl!! :) sending you good vibes into the holidays! ⭐
What a year! 🎉 Merry xmas, enjoy a break from work 😊 And please send some of that gym motivation out this way if you can hahah 😂
Hahaha sending you all the motivation 💖💖💖
I've really enjoyed your running journey this year, it's been great! Hoping to see what challenges you complete in 2025. Are you going to do another 5k PB attempt? =D
Thank you so much!! Yes 100000% :) got a good feeling about the next attempt!
I think you got huge potential to go fasterand faster
It does sometimes feel that it’s either ‘run fast or else it doesn’t count’ in some parts of the running community. I’m glad I’m more in your type of community
That's why I love the trail running community, it seems to be a lot less about pace and a lot more about time on feet and just being out in nature
@ yes same. The trail / ultra community is a whole different thing to the start line of a road marathon, for example.
the best way to be :)
I’m only 20 miles away from purple level NRC - get it done by end of this year.
You know you're an ultra runner when....
A half marathon is "just a training run". ;-)
Hahaha
Did you say 30?! Jeez I thought you're early 20s
Yesss hahahha thank you
I can google it.. but what's 851km in miles 🤔
Hahahaha it’s 528 miles
Hi I’ve watched a few of your videos but had to stop because you kept swearing! Didn’t seem necessary
