Fun to see! I am really a beginner. I started being able to not run like more than 2 minutes without being burned out and I definetly could not pace myself and ran to fast. I then started in august this year again after having recovered from an injury. I just moved to a new city then and started to run very slowly and being pacient and kind with myself. Now I can run for like at least 40 minutes without stopping but I am running very slowly. Still a very big progress from where I started😁 My big goal is the copenhagen half marathon next september so I have lots of time to progress further and to shorter races before:)
@@areefareef7675 I am just very kind to myself and let go of all prestige. Now every run I do is a good run no matter what and I usually train with a set time and not with a set distance. If I would say ”today i am running this far” and then not make it it would be harder to take. Also I try to do the ten minute rule. When I dont want to run one day I just think ”only ten minutes and then I dont have to do more” but by the time you gotten in to it you dont really feel as tired and unmotivated. But yeah going like super duper slow is the trick for me
I love this! I just started running last month and it's SO hard for me to run slow. It definitely feels easier to breathe at a slower pace, but it feels harder to move my legs at a slower pace. It's a fun challenge, to "run slow" but such a beneficial one!
I started running last year and did an ultra in Scotland in September.. and then 3 weeks later ran Berlin Marathon 😅 And what’s crazy is that I wanted a YT-er to watch to keep me motivated and you were one of the first ones I’ve found and you’re still my fave to watch! Loveeee this era for you ❤
Early april this year I could barely run for 2minutes and then I kept caughing the rest of the day due to pain in my lungs. Today I ran one 5minute and 2 set of 8 minutes which one of the 8min were accidentally uphill most of the way. Before today my longest run were 4 or 5 sets of 5minutes
Loved this :) I started running again in 2022 as well and recently completed a half marathon. I have been wanting to sign up for a full marathon since. This video was super helpful and inspiring!
Love your videos and advice Holly! Just ran my first race ever (10K) in heaton park today! Running my first marathon in the spring at the MCR marathon :))
Well done! This is a tough route. I signed up to the half marathon without realising how hilly it was 😂 Safe to say, it has put me off that route. Good luck for the MCR marathon!x
These are really good tips. I've just signed up for my first half marathon next year in June and I'm terrified. One thing that's already super important to me is focusing on distance rather than speed (how fast im going). So yes im running very slow but the speed will come with time :)
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! I was a ‘sprinter’ as a child and teen - randomly did a half marathon in 2015 which I never thought my body would be able to do and haven’t done one since! Now contemplating another half marathon here in Bristol in this spring just to re-prove to myself that I can + agree with you that gym can be so boring! Nice to get out in the fresh air and feel strong in a different way. I cannot express what a mental challenge running is - that will certainly be my biggest barrier, especially having gone from someone who has been able to do a half marathon and will be a beginner again! New subscriber 🎉❤
I started couch 2 5K in July 2023 and completed it in September. I then carried on running 3x a week trying to increase my speed until October. On Tuesday I decided I wanted to run again in the new year… so I did a very slow 20min run (2.8KM) and then I put off my next run about 4 times 🫣 But when I did eventually get out I managed to get 5K in 33mins which was only 2/3mins slower than I was doing in October SO I was obviously buzzing for myself!!! Today I decided I’m going to train for half a marathon… I’ve never done any kind of run and feels like I’ll never be able to do it but, I’m just going to go for it 😅 Got the Nike running app 14 weeks training and today was intervals and speed which I thoroughly enjoyed!! Just got to actually book a half marathon now 😅
For some reason people seem to think a 5k is a good place to start running. It's usually way too far for a beginner runner. If you want to get into it, try running slowly for 2km and come back home feeling good. Then only up your distance by small amounts each month. After a couple of months you'll be running 5ks and actually enjoying it.
I run a running group and I’ve just sent them the section where you talk about tips for running and told them to watch! It gave me some motivation and I have sure it will give them some too❤️
Holly, inspiring real words, with real problems for a normal runner with real solutions,, ur dad seems an inspiration to u, he is ur pillar of strength,,, keep it up, all the best for future endeavours
I love this! I have a similar running journey as well. I completed my first 10k race in october and I stopped running for around 4 months after because I also went a little faster than I had been training for. It was a really difficult run. Something clicked though and I signed up for my first marathon for later this year. During my training I have also really been focusing on slow running. I'm loving the process so far. So many nerves and excitement for my first marathon!
When I did my first park run, it took me 52 minutes to run/walk it. That was in 2018. Fast forward five years, and here we are training for my first marathon. Look out London 2024 here I come. I started running in 2015, primarily to run away from unpleasant emotions, now I’m running for fun. I’m so bad a doing any run other than long runs though, I haven’t done any other run on my training plan. I do run faster when running with others during the park run, but I never do intentional intervals alone. I love the half marathon distance. It’s achievable, but it feels impressive. I don’t feel like I have to run through my brain abandoning me at any shorter distance. I need to learn to fuel and learn what my body can tolerate. I know for example the gels disagree with my body, so I will use blocks instead. Running is the best free antidepressant we have at our disposal. Also, movement seems to illicit so many good ideas. You can think so clearly. If I run London successfully I might run Manchester because I’m going to university in Salford in September.
Ugh I LOVE your videos!! So so happy for you. I used to run pre-COVID and was training for a marathon, got up to 17 miles in my training and then my race was canceled and I basically gave up. I was deployed to the Middle East two years later and joined a run club and did all the 5ks to help pass the time. I ended up getting shin splints and took another 9 months off and did a lot of traveling and backpacking through Europe and ended up gaining 20lbs. I started running again in January of this year and wow I could barely run a mile. And I’m in the military!! Haha so in January I decided I was going to complete a full marathon. Little did I know I accidentally signed up for a trail marathon so that’ll be a whole other layer haha. I completed my half marathon in preparation at the end of May and took a bit of time off and focused more on weight training and shorter runs. Now that it’s July and my marathon is in September I am ramping back up. I’m a little nervous because it’s so hot these days but telling myself I’m excited* haha. I was so amazed that I was able to run the whole half marathon so that gives me hope because I wasn’t so sure and have just been really gentle with myself this whole journey and telling myself I can walk and not push too hard. Watching your videos has been really validating and I am so inspired! I used to do triathlons and weight lift regularly and it’s been really fun getting back into fitness after not prioritizing it and myself for years. I am down 8/20lbs of consistent weight loss and I have been feeling awesome and I’m excited to keep going. Thanks for sharing your journey ☺️
I love hearing about your running journey and your advice! Thank you so much for sharing and for reminding us to consistently be kind to ourselves and enjoy moving our bodies 🥰🫶🏼
This is one of if not the best I've watched. I've been running 51 years coming up 67 and this is exactly how I've trained and ran 3 times a week odd times 4 can honestly say I've hardly ever been injured in all these years my best marathon time was 3.01 couldn't get under 3 😅😅 follow this ladies advice and you won't go wrong especially the bit about recovery and slow running
Started at 30 seconds, then walking for 1 minute. Did a few couch to 5k , stopped, started for the last 10 years. Done 5ks, 10ks and 1/2 marathon. Training for my first marathon in May 2025. Great video for anyone starting out. Thanks!
My split is currently two full body (with 15min runs as warm up/cool down depending) and two 30min runs, every other week I did a long run...and I've really been loving this split but was unsure since I dont hear too much about people hybrid split!
I want to get back into running again. I did couch to 5k during lockdown, and loved it and would manage 5k's. But then I got covid and it messed with my heartrate for a while. I've been challenging myself in the gym for a few months and my heart is better now. I have been doing interval training totalling around 20 minutes of running and 10 minutes walking on the treadmill at the gym but its a bit boring and hard to manage my pace (especially on the walking part and having to keep a consistent pace which really kills my shins.) I have trouble with having a fast pace, around 5.5/km which gasses me out any longer than 5k. So I'm going to start training, because I really want to run the MCR half marathon in October! The things you said about the bad runs hit real. The first time I continuously tried to run a 5k, I had the worst struggle with knee discomfort at the start that I was beating myself up and didnt think I could do it. I almost went home. But I did it, I ran that thing continuously for the first time. And I felt so good.
Thank you so much for this! Just completed my first Half Marathon yesterday in Baltimore (it once felt so unreachable!). There was a times I wasn’t able to run 30 seconds without stopping but I worked myself up, completed 5k 10k and wondered if I can push myself…. I’m considering marathon maybe next year! Thank you for this
I realise this video is from last year but I’m a beginner (literally started running 6 days ago but am reasonably fit & also a dance teacher so I do some exercise!) however I am now booked to run a half marathon in 12 weeks & I have a charity place for the Manchester marathon next year 🙊😆 so I’m very excited to watch this video!!
Loved this ! You have come such a long way and I am sure you have many more challenges/ events to smash your way through ! Thank you for the code for the Shokz - I have ordered some - would you mind sharing some of your playlists please ? Thank you ❤xx
I'm a runner who got injured and then gave up for way too long after. I have just recently begun getting back to it and accepting that I have to rebuild up to what I was doing before and actually incorporate weight training to avoid further injury. Thank you for motivating me once again. Just curious, have you ever tried trail running?
Trail running is awesome! I just got back from Colorado and running up in the mountains on trails is super hard due to the elevation but the most beautiful, satisfying runs ever imho@@hollyb_fitness
Just found your channel. I have run since my GCSEs. I am now 38! Until I had kids I only did 5km. Since then i have regularly run 10km and done a few half marathons, some just by myself and other planned events. I would love to either get my half under 2 hours or complete my first marathon. I have no plan yet though. Manifestisting now.... just how can I fit it in with my two babies and a full time job.😂 thank you for all your time and thoughts. Very inspiring.
Hey there Holly! I just wanted to say thank you for the video and tips for running marathons. God is good. I wanted to say thank you for letting Him work through you in the video because it was encouraging :) I wanted to share a verse that always has really helped me - Matthew 11:28 Come to Me all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest :) God bless you today, thank You Jesus for that rest and help us to surrender our lives to You Lord ✝️🤍🙌

Absolutely, if you’re a reasonably fit person. The first few weeks of training are really there just to get you used to running. Once you get used to it over those few weeks you’ll find that a 10k will be a long way to run but still completely doable.
