    not watched this yet but just incase you don't log on later, just wanted to say HAVE THE BESTEST TIME! Try and enjoy every moment, take what you can from the pit stops, remember to drink and take it all in. You've trained for this, go out and have a blast. 🧡🧡

    as someone who gets blisters very often from new shoes or not wearing the right socks, i wouldn't wear those waterproof socks if you've never run in them before. but it's good to know that you have your anti-chafe balm with you. good luck for your ultra, can't wait to see the video! 😄

    With regard to payment method, bring a card or small amount of cash as backup. Recently in a half marathon for some reason my iphone security locked itself, it came up with a message "try again in 45 minutes" or something similar. I couldn't even get it to take a photo let alone make a payment or phone call. Very frustrating but lesson learned!

    Double check the jacket requirements!l Most ultras stipulate that the waterproof has to have taped seams and they check at the kit check before they let you run! GOOD LUCK! Xx

    Paper towels in a plastic bag are better than TP if having to go #2. Rougher but doesn’t fall apart and “gets everything”.

    Good luck! And a big no on the waterproof socks if you have never tried them before. Just bring an extra pair of socks and talc powder if needed. And yes TP in a little plastic baggie! You are going to do great!

      2+ pairs if you add. Sometimes they allow for supplies like new shoes and food to be placed at resupply points.

    i use mini packs of tissues, one in each pocket. then don't have to worry about it. also i recommend harrier for kit like the emergency blanket - not as cheap as amazon but high quality and designed to meet race specs

    Little tip for the toilet paper- pop it in a ziplock bag, otherwise there's a good chance it'll turn to mush in your vest from sweat or rain (I learned this the hard way when I stashed lollies directly in one of my pockets and they turned into a big gooey mess!)     Waterproof socks, one thing everyone gets wrong is they’ll buy gortex trainers & wear waterproof socks in a desperate attempt to keep feet dry… this is wrong, most likely feet will over heat, sweat and swell. Plus if you end up in ankle/lace depth water the gortex trainers are irrelevant. Waterproof socks are best utilised after your run if your feet/trainers have been compromised by water. The sock absorbs the water from your skin/trainer & aids in drying the trainer out. My advice, take another pair of well trusted socks & a sprinkling of talc/baby powder & change when needed, save the waterproof socks for the drive home 🤌

    Good luck and enjoy. Be careful with having support on route, this usually is not allowed as an unfair advantage. Check the rules and or contact the race director. *edit* just checked and they said yes you are allowed

    It could be the trainers. Too much cushion causing small muscles to over work thus your tight calves.

    This might be a stupid question but I've always wondered how runners stay on course during ultras. Are you having to navigate yourself along the way or are there a hundred signposts that you have to pray you don't miss?

      They’ve got sign posts but they also sent the gps course which you can connect to your watch :)

      There are often gpx files available which you can download if you have a compatible watch, also generally signage (ribbon often) but yes we do go wrong sometimes. Xx

    I did my very first Marathon last October in Dublin using this run/walk strategy. I am over 60 so I did 3:30 walking then ran for 30 seconds. I finished the marathon in 5H55. I was very pleased to have completed the full distance. I was not so sore the next day. Conditions on the day were not ideal - raining & very cold, especially as I was in the last Wave, we were standing around for ages getting colder & colder before we started. I know if I increase my running time say, to 60 seconds and with a bit more training I could maybe achieve a finish time of 5 hours.

    Im also on the slower side of runners and Just did recently a 5k under 30 min with a time of 29:54 and for like 4km straight until finish I was like that’s and it left me with really sore legs for like 2 days straight. I probably think I enjoy 10k and half more but haven’t developed the endurance enough to do them without injury since I will not feel like fainting from lack of oxygen that much as the 5k.

    I’ve caught the running bug and let me tell you! Before I started running I thought “it’s just a 5k”. Now that im actually running this distance, it feels like “WOW you completed a 5k!”. Mind you it takes me about 42 minutes to complete so I am a very slow runner. That 5km feels like the longest run of my life each time😂

    5K is technically classed as long distance running. It’s not short. It’s like someone saying 6ft is short just because the guy standing next to them is 6ft5

      It’s considered long distance only in track, a 5K is the shortest “official” road race there is, excluding very rare races like a miler or a 3K
