I love the down-to-earth realness of your video! No fake smiles, overpriced kitchenware, or false modesty. I like how you weren't afraid to acknowledge that you don't have fancy knives. Your instructions are practical and easy to follow. The accent definitely helps. :-) But you know what I REALLY liked? That you were cooking on an electric stove, like the majority of us less-moneyed folk do! Subscribed!
I just made sautéed collards. I modified the recipe to make them the way I normally do with the exception that I sautéed them. I used a half a cup of oil, 5 pieces of thick cut bacon cut into 1” pieces, one onion thinly sliced, 4 pressed garlic cloves, 1 tbsp of homemade all purpose seasoning (no salt), a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar, and a half teaspoon of hot sauce. So I heated the oil in a tall pot and added the bacon. When the bacon was nice and brown I added the onions. When the onions were done I added the garlic (once the bacon was done and I added the onions and then the garlic 2-3 minutes had passed so it was quick). Then I added the collards (I bought a very large bag of the chopped pre-washed collards from BJ’s - I cheated) and combined everything. Then I added the all purpose seasoning and combined some more. I covered and let simmer for 6 minutes like you said. I then added the apple cider vinegar and hot sauce and sautéed covered for another 4 minutes and turned off the heat and let them sit (covered) until we were ready to eat. FANTASTIC! It never occurred to me that you could sauté them until I saw your video. Thank you 🙏 so much! My fiancée loved them as well.
Please don’t listen to the people with horrible comments... clearly they can’t cook other wise they wouldn’t be on your page looking up how to cook greens!!!! 😍 you are doing an Amazing Job!! Half their grandmas can’t cook either!!! Crunchy ass potato salad! 🤣 Old miserable farts! 😏 Start your own page or keep your negative comments to yourself!
Thank you! I'm growing collard greens in my garden this year, so I was happy to see a method where they're not boiled to mush. For knives, I use Jamie Oliver's chefs knife. It's a beautifully crafted knife, does an excellent job and doesn't cost me nearly as much as the standard German or Japanese blades.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m trying to learn how to cook for my family and I love greens. I’m a lot less intimidated because of your clear instruction. Thank you!! 🖤🖤🖤
Any recipe that starts out with Slap Yo Mama seasoning is going to be a winner. :) This is my second attempt at making greens, and by and away my favorite! Thanks!
Thanks for your recipe. I have collard greens for sunday dinner just about every week. Never seen or heard of them being cooked this way. I am going to try your way. Easy breezy. Gets me out of the kitchen quicker.
That recipe was amazing. I used my own spice mix and added chopped garlic, but other than than followed the recipe. I’m always looking for ways to make use of the greens in my garden. This one is a wife approved keeper!
How refreshingly normal. Love your recipes. A lot of you tubers have links to overpriced kitchen gadgets. I cannot swing a $ 400 juicer or blender. So I love your channel, your honesty and down to earth approach. Recipes for the rest of us. Thank you so very much for your honesty and just being YOU. You made my day and then some because you don't advertise what high priced gadgets I need to buy. Knife pot food recipe. And you get cracking. That's a real cook. Oh yeah subscribed. I have been looking for this collard recipe for 3 years my dear. Yay. WINNER 🏆
I tried to grow collard greens this year, but the bugs just eat through them in my garden. They don't eat anything else but the collard greens, how do you stop this?
I have lots of collard greens and kale growing. 50 or more plants which is way above normal for me. However really have never eaten collard greens or kale ( kale only in salads ) before. 2 days ago I tried kale like you cooked the collard. To day I mixed kale and collard. Am blown away with the taste. Now must preserve a lot for the winter.
Very good. However, I had to cook the greens a little longer. I used a large prepackage of cut Collard, Kale, Mustard, and Turnip greens, and removed 2 handfuls of stems. I did add to the rue 3 bacon slices and a half of cup of water to steam the bacon for about 35 minutes. I also cut back on the Slap Your Mamma. A little of that stuff goes a long way with me. Next time I'm going to cook mine on low overnight in a crockpot, just to make cooking them that much easier. Also, instead of red pepper, I sprinkled on Louisiana Hot Sauce. You ma'am, have proved that simple is good.
Delicious. I will never make collards the same way. Super quick, easy and loads of flavor. I had the Slap Ya Mama seasoning on hand and I hardly ever use it...oh, but now! Thank you!
Im currently sick. I have a fresh batch of collard greens and I cant wait to make this! I love not overcooked greens. I dont like a guy texture, feels like im eating oil. Yours look perfect!
RAZA SHARP INTERNATIONAL I don’t know, 10 days is a start. I was vegetarian for 10 years. I loved it but my body was having problems with absorbing vegetable protein. Now I eat meat but in small amounts. I focus on eating a variety of veggies and have 10 almonds and a little dried fruit for a snack. Mostly it’s a little tweaking in your meals to make them healthier. Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing with us this wonderful, simple and healthy recepy (I don´t know about the seasoning).
