@@jayell8253i believe 7.5", going by the image in the install instructions. However, that image shows it diagonally, likely as the shortest path to the chimney from ceiling sheetrock. In a pure vertical to absolute bottom point of metal, this may likely be 8"-8.5". I do not like the look of a large box hanging below the ceiling, would be happy to learn 2" is all that is needed. (2" is from the double wall pipe to combustibles, if you use double or triple wall pipe inside the home, below the ceiling, 2" would suffice, but if you use single7 wall inside, below the ceiling, you would need the single wall pipe safe distance minus the allotment reduction for verticality over horizontal).
How much below the ceiling line should the lower side of the box go?
minimum 2 inches, I think.
