This is fabulous!! I love everything vintage. I have my great grandmother’s sewing machine AND I even have the receipt for it. They paid $30 for it in 1906! I really enjoy your work!
I have my Nana's sewing machine too! I have the reciept, care card, carrying case - everything for it. She bought it in 1952 2 days before Christmas💖 unfortunately it was already locked up by the time it came into my care, so the machine shop said it wasn't fixable but either way I'll NEVER get rid of it!
@@puwussssyyyy6653 There are many people who have been able to unlock their own machines. Because this one is so important to you, I bet it would be worth the effort of finding out how. What model is it? There are FB groups and YT videos about unlocking many if not most vintage machines. Best of luck to you! (PS machine shops don't always have the time or desire to figure these older ones out so they may well be wrong about its fixability. :) )
@@nataliaord639 it's an ELNA supermatic! Of course I have all the original tools and feet for it as well, Nana did an incredible job preserving everything. It never even crossed my mind to try unlocking it myself. I'll definitely look into doing that, thank you!
Beautiful I wished you were selling this. I love ❤️ this. My auntie used to sew quilts. I love all your clothing . The older style. No I don't sew. But ❤️ this.blessings from God.
New subbie. I saw the vintage slip short ... wow. That was a stunning ensemble. And how come you're not a model? Don't mean to be so bold, im old now, born in 1956, and old people think it and say it. Ha. It is so cold today here in richmond virginia where I live; perfect day for snuggling in bed and binge watching your videos. Seriously, that outfit in the video was stunning, and you looked fabulous. As I was scanning through your videos, I saw where you had a baby ... I love children's clothes. I'm fixated on sweaters; they're just so cute. My son was born in January. But at the thrift store last week, I found two pieces that were obviously homemade, one was a well worn long nightgown made from a baby blanket. As I ran my fingers over the hand sewn hems around the collar and bottom hem, I could feel the love of this child with every stitch, then later, an adorable about a size 3T little pink checked dress. Is it appropriate for me to suggest that you teach how to make simple children's clothing along the same line? My son's babysitter was a grandmother, with a bunch of grand children. When one of the little girls would outgrow a dress or something, she'd sew up shorts or something else. I don't sew garments... yet .... but use my sewing machine, which is my most cherished possession, for home repairs and crafting. I hope your channel grows and grows. Sorry about the too long comment.
‘Rena, I got a blue quilted robe for Christmas when I must have been about 13. I still had it and used it til I was in my early 30’s. I think the fabric was some type of nylon quilted fabric. It was very light weight.
I’m kind of surprised how fitted it is in the waist. I always through of house coats as pretty wide and comfy to put over a pretty night gown. Kind of like a giant comforter you could wear. But still pretty because in the 50s everything was pretty. ❤
I think this style was made for having cocktails at home like a smocking jacket for a gent. They offer so many styles and shapes not all the housecoat designs are this fitted
I love how fancy and how many styles of housecoat there used to be! Something like this has been on my sewing wishlist for a while. Thanks for giving us such beautiful inspiration!
So beautiful. FYI...If you are quilting or tucking your own fabric...you must make your own fabric squares or rectangles and it has to start out Oversized. The fabric will shrink as you quilt or tuck. 12" x 24" piece of fabric may be 9" x 18". Keep that in mind when purchasing your fabric also. I hope you don't mind and I don't want to overstep but I've made some heart breaking mistakes in the past.
YT suggested this video and I couldn’t be happier. Beautiful work and thank you so much for sharing the process!! Absolutely will reference this for my own quilted masterpiece in the near future ♥️
I am enjoying watching you at your craft. I'm an illustrator and I love all of the illustrations of the designs. I've never had an opportunity to learn how to sew outside of junior high. My great granddad was a tailor. My grand mother's also sewed. It's a Magickal craft. I love how you do your thing. And the vintage look is truly beautiful. 😍
I had a quilted robe when I was a little girl and I've never forgotten it. I've often thought about making one for myself now. But I'm not so talented as you. You are a fantastic seamstress! I love watching you work, and the choices of your fabric and your makes are just scrumptious!
Absolutely stunning, and great idea with the strips of interfacing on the seams! I have always struggled with sewing fabrics of different weights, so I will definitely be using this tip ❤️ Thank you for sharing!
I love your work. I hope to use the skills my mother and grandmother gave me to create beautiful clothing. Your videos give me hope. I thought for sure your were a fashion major. You sew girl!
Girl this is so pretty, you look wonderful in your new quilter housecoat 😍 The bottom fabric is yummy, and a good match to the top yellow. It's so glamorous. You did an amazing job handling the bulk.
@SewRena Okay, I've been catching your Shorts and absolutely fell in love with you and your style!. I grew up a child of a fifties mother. My mom was gorgeous, just like you, and rocked the fashions of the day. I love your sense of style and dedication to an era! 😘
THANKYOU for including the needle and machine foot information. The best information I have seen in a good while. Lookng forward to watching you make your Western Shirt next
Congratulations! This piece is gorgeous. You look radiant in it, too! Thank you for sharing your process, including your uncertainties. It’s so helpful to see how makers overcome the challenges each project presents!
Your housecoat reminds me of one I received as a Christmas gift when I was about 12. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. The color of it was only slightly darker than yours. 😊
What would you suggest for practice or how to practice for a beginner? I would like to one day be able to bring this to life and create this but I have no experience whatsoever.
This is the order I started in (it was the closest I could figure out to simplest to more complex projects) - Circle skirt, pencil skirt, flared/A-line skirt, bodice, bodice with sleeves, pants. Right now I'm sort of happy with the bodice fit. So while I figure that out I'm going back to the beginning to see if I can manage to line the skirts (basically, upping my skill level on something 'simple'). Good luck and enjoy. I strongly suggest shopping for the early projects (& the later ones - I was once lucky enough to find some wool from Britain) from Value Village, or any other thrift shop. Look at curtains, sheets, the craft section and the fabric section. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Oh my gosh, you look like a princess. Positively regal.
You did it again!
*gorgeous housecoat for showing off while pushing a vintage carpet sweeper about elegantly. p.s carpet sweepers are also making a comeback*
Psst. They work! 😊
Your house coat is absolutely beautiful!
I must say I was shocked at everything you went through to make this come to fruition. Wow!!!
Wow, such a huge amount of work. It came out beautifully! Well done, yellow is such a gorgeous colour on you!
It is, it fairly sings, on her, then again, I have yet to see her in anything that doesn't!
Stunning! I am a bathrobe/pajamas connoisseur. I like to rise early and have my coffee and do my morning prayers in a House coat and tailored pajamas.

W O W !! That’s so BEAUTIFUL! I never imagined I would say that about a housecoat, but indeed it is. Very glamorous.
Thank you so much 💕💕 I’ve never been so proud of a project

Wow that’s even more incredibly beautiful than I expected. It looks like something in the wardrobe from an old movie. I love it.
This beautiful housecoat is a total dream!
This was lovely! Such a cute color you chose for the coat. You've made me want to try quilting now, it looks so good!
that is stunning!!! But I can't imagine wearing it while fixing breakfast or cleaning the kitchen. it's too beautiful to risk getting dirty!
It’s not made for that. it’s more for entertaining evening guest, having Cocktails. Things like that.
Stunning! You are a great model for your projects 🤩 I feel a little envious, I don't even have a regular housecoat, much less a fancy one!
Hahah thank you so much! You must get a fancy one. It’s so nice to get dressed up for yourself at home, but still feel comfortable
Absolutely stunning, and great idea with the strips of interfacing on the seams! I have always struggled with sewing fabrics of different weights, so I will definitely be using this tip ❤️ Thank you for sharing!
That is beautiful work
You are very skilled. Did you go to school to be a seamstress/tailor? This "housecoat" almost looks like a ballgown and the finishing is fabulous.
I love your work. I hope to use the skills my mother and grandmother gave me to create beautiful clothing. Your videos give me hope. I thought for sure your were a fashion major. You sew girl!
First off, this is beautiful! Second, you are supremely talented. That is all.
