  • MAN Diesel & Turbo delivered six MAN 14V51/60 engines to Gibraltar in November 2016 and faced the challenges of this major project: a new Power Station in a small location in order to meet the Gibraltarian government requirements. Follow the progress of this project in this video which details several steps of the project from the factory acceptance test in Saint-Nazaire to the transport of the engines in the power house in Gibraltar.

    Nice looking MAN engine

Amazing, know these type of engines have industry leading and best inclass near zero "bad actor emissions" especially on NG. How does the efficiency compare to GT and CC Cogen operation, is it at or near 30% prime mover eff? And can these type of engines be scaled up from 18MW to 75 or even 250 MW class, for stationary electrical generation. Or do the reciprocal acceleration forces on piston push rods and rings just become too great? Hope someone can and is willing to comment on atleast some of these questions on ytube forum...thanks in advance 🤓

    why not Turbine?

Not sure. Probably initial cost and maintenance costs.

As a mechanical engineer, and a master mechanic, I have to say that clean energy is not fossil fuel. Solar, yes. Petroleum combustion? No. Very cool engine though.

G Kuljian if the engine achieves near zero bad actor emissions, NoX, SoX, particulates etc, which I believe these engines achieve, especially on NG, it's a very good example of sustainable development and near-term / mid-term energy planning.

Nothing is "clean" and as a mechanical engineer you should know that its unpractical to impossible to scale up renewable energys and all the storage wich is needed.
