Or you can use closed-loop scrubbers and SCR systems. You can run HFO and even any kind of unrefined crude oil (in addition to LNG, Diesel, gas oil, used engine oil, used cooking oil, _et cetera_ ) and you still have a low-emission vessel. A great lesson to idiot greenies. It shows that you don't have to go all electric or use ultra-clean fuel to have a low-emission engine. Although I do support switching to biofuels once petroleum "runs out". And that's the great thing about Diesel engines-they'll run on pretty much anything, as long as it can ignite under high temperature and pressure, and as long as you can get it into the cylinder.

@@electric7487 Closed loop scrubbers and SCR systems cannot eliminate CO2, only SO2 and NOx. But natural gas emits much lower amount of CO2 than HFO.
@@exterminator4808 CO2 scrubbers are a thing, you know. Hopefully engine makers can start putting them on ships.
