I like that you just accept these cringey love triangle elements and experience them for what they are instead of hating on them like many other people.
It's CRAZY to me that people STILL don't "get" HOW "it's complicated" the love triangle stuff is intended to be, even though they've seen the whole series.
Pema actually didn't steal Tenzin. It's implied that Tenzin and Lin had different paths in relationship. Tenzin wanted kids because after Aang died, he was the only air bender left in the world. So, he wanted to have kids to rebuild the air bending culture. Meanwhile, Lin didn't want to have kids. I mean, it's still wrong that Pema confessed to Tenzin when he was still in the relationship. Yet, it's not Pema that being the home wrecker. Tenzin left because he wanted to. I guess he understood that he and Lin weren't meant to be. In a way, he also respected Lin's decision to be childfree.
@@patrickwaldeck6681 That's also possible. But I personally don't quite get that impression because Tenzin said they'd been growning apart in separate ways. If Lin couldn't have kids, I believed he wouldn't say "We had different goals." He would be more understanding as well. Another reason, Lin's attitude towards kids seemed kind of distant and cold. I guess it's because of her strained relationship with her sister and mother. I think it kind of made her reluctant to have kids. That's just my opinion however. It's nice to hear your theory as well.
I watched the tail end of the first Avatar series so I missed out on a lot... but when I was a preteen and TLOK was announced, I was extremely excited because I wanted to have the same experience with TLOK that ATLA fans had and idc what people say, I still love TLOK to this day 😤
The action sequences are insane in TLOK, I love the choreography and how it's comparable to ATLA's traditional style where the fighting styles were separated according to the element/culture. As someone whose personal favorites from ATLA were the non-benders like Jet, Mai, and Ty Lee, it's interesting to see how the distinct styles all molded into this modern way of fighting for the characters in TLOK with the existence of Republic city and people living among each other.
@@ieyke He's definitely a morally grey character but I was talking about his fighting style here, I love his two hook blades! Character-wise, I like his development with the Gaang and how he feels like an actual tragic by-product of war. He's a victim and yet also became as vicious as the people who harmed him, it's sadly ironic. I really like his presence in the series.
I love watching these guys react to Korra. They're so invested. It really is a good story with just the right amount of callbacks to the original series, but different enough to be it's own entity.
the scary/sad thing about the wolf bats losing their bending is that that’s their lives, it’s how they protect themselves, how they make money, like they were champions and their lives are just over. it’s like being mike tyson and one day just having both your arms fall off
The radio host and tarrlock are both voiced by the same person who voices all the animals in tlok and atla, and the lead nomad in the secret tunnel! Amazing talent
Nice to have Daniel Dai Kim back voicing Sato after voicing General Fung in Book 2 ep1 of Avatar. I can't wait to see him as Ozai in the live action Netflix series.
I grew up with Avatar: The Last Airbender airing for the first time, so I was so excited for The Legend of Korra, I wanted to see more bending so badly. And this series did not disappoint. Compared to the other three, season two is the weakest, but I still loved it and don’t think it deserves the hate it is getting.
Agree! For what they were given, the team who wrote this show did such a great job of making each season play into Korra's overall character development. Season 2 included! Definitely the weakest, but not a bad season at all and absolutely necessary for setting up season 3 and 4.

man, i really love the voice actors in this show...JK Simmons can do it all!!, and i wish nikelodeon released all the behind the scenes when they were recording the martial arts movements via motion capture to incorporate it to the animation...and again guys, it's good to see that you are enjoying this series...and you will get more action in the upcoming season 2 and 3!

Yeah people seem to have selective amnesia when it comes to these two shows, sometimes TLOK does things the same or similarily to TLA and people HATE IT but they loved it in TLA because it was TLA and obviously you can't even critizise that show at all lol
The scene where that guy is getting his bending taken away is honestly so cool, it goes from lightning to fire to nothing cause that’s kinda how the skill progresses with the heat rising to form lightning
korra has one of the best feats in the avatar universe. every time she loses a battle she learns from her mistakes and gets right back on her feets like how she knows how to counter chi blockers now she learns from her enemies mistakes
Aang did the same 🤔. Both are adapting to a new world, each learned from their mistakes and grow from them both from a personal/emotional standpoint and from a situational standpoint. They each deal with romance. Aang was very connected with spiritual side and Korra which the physical. That's about the only thing that is different about them character wise. Though I guess Korra has to deal with more types of bending than Aang did when he was going through his journey.

And that all depends HEAVILY on not counting Zuko, Mai, Ty Lee as bad guys. Hell, P'Li and Combustion Man might not get much screen time, but in terms of coolness? ....I'm not sure Azula competes.
Hiroshi Sato is voiced by Daniel Dae Kim, who also voiced the general who tried to force Aang into the avatar state back in book 2 Ep 1 & will now also be firelord Ozai in the live action netflix show
I think one of my favorite parts about this show in all its seasons is the family dynamic and family humor with Tenzin's family. The story has to be centered around Korra, because she's the avatar, but the writers really give us a lot of time to spend with Aang's family that he leaves behind, and its such a powerful presence in the show that in a way becomes its own character, much like Zuko and Iroh did in the original show.
Great reaction! FYI: Chief Beifong is metal bending. Remember when the police was introduced in Ep 1, Korra said "oooh metal bending" or something like that. So yeah, police force with those thick wires = metal benders.
I love it when they introduce sub-bending abilities like blood or metal benders. And it's not ropes as in tough fabric, but metal that they can manipulate at any will to any shape or length

Nah Mako still deserves the hate. Pema actually did good for the sake of the world. Had Tenzin ended up with Lyn, their kids would have 1/3 chance of being born airbenders, earthbenders or nonbenders. As Pema's a nonbender and Air Nomad's ways increase the chance of getting a bending almost up to 100%, all their kids are airbenders. Pema's the main reason airbenders are coming back from extinction.

I always get so happy hearing the "SOMEBODY CALL A DOCTOR, BECAUSE BAD MEDICINE IS BACK" line :D Hope y'all really stick with this series. Korra is an amazing avatar and has some great stories. Season 2 is considered the weaker one but still has some amazing stuff imo
I think these episodes vibe a lot with us older people, because they're VERY 1980s. Like Goonies, Lucas, Karate Kid and etc. The standard new guy in a new place, there's the girl he likes but it's complicated. Then there's the bullies who are like, "You can't snowboard here! It's our mountain! We'll battle for it!" That kind of 80s movies we all grew up with, with the cheesiness. It's so campy to watch!
Big laughs with that oof from the Answer in episode 5. Jealous scowl = “I gotchu bro” I’m kind of sad becoming friends after an ill-fated crush fizzles out was described as “brutal friendzoning” for Bolin. It’s just teen drama; tragic one day, forgotten the next. It’s not like it means anything.
That makes me crazy. Here’s no such thing as friendzoning. Korra is allowed to not have romantic feelings for bolin just as mako is alllwed to not have romantic feelings for korra. It’s not something you “do to” someone else. You simply feel how you feel. That expression is rooted in entitlement and it’s so gross.
I mean it was brutal friendzoning Korra knew she didnt like him like that but since she was mad at mako she went out with him and remember he said a Date that implies romantic feelings. The only other word for it besides brutal friendzoning is Deceptive dating. Like ik shes a "Confused teenage girl" but she knew she liked mako and not him she was just cruel to bolin for no reason and the show just wants you to be like yep that's not her fault tho

She didn’t get mad until Mako made it clear that he was jealous, sending mixed signals, which happened after the date. All three sides made mistakes. Bolin hadn’t taken the hint after weeks of Korra not responding to his advances, increasing the odds of hitting her at a low point. Mako couldn’t stick to his choices, and Korra was too focused on Mako to notice Bolin wasn’t looking for something casual. And “date” is a much more flexible term than you seem to think, mate. Going on one date is not agreeing to start an exclusive relationship. You agree (or don’t) to start the relationship when you’re discussing the date afterwards, which Korra and Bolin clearly hadn’t done yet. You’re acting like Korra cheated on him or something. That’s what Mako did to Asami when he leaned into the kiss instead of away like Katara did when Aang pulled an “I’ll unconfuse you baby”

She knew that he wanted a relationship even mako knew and confronted her on it and its tossed away because oh well she a teenager like no that's not okay, it would have taken Korra not even acknowledging bolin existence in order for her not to know and if that's what your saying that's even worse. And no going on a Date doesnt mean your dating but it does mean 1 of the 2 people involved had the feelings to begin with and her knowing that makes what she did wrong maybe not technically cheating but it is heartless especially when it's with your dates brother like she had just gotten back from said date

Whether your personal dictionary says that’s an okay thing to think after the word she said to her doesn’t matter. She wasn’t reading the same book. It was a stupid, selfish, sloppy rebound. Korra is guilty of being thoughtless, naive, and tunnel-visioned, but she’s not the only person at fault or the sole cause of everyone’s misery. And by the end of the episode, Bolin didn’t have a crush anymore and Korra had made her disinterest clear. They became friends mutually and never brought it up between each other again. Nobody got “friendzoned”. They forgot about it so quickly it couldn’t have been “brutal”. That’s all I’m saying.
My boy Brolin is so underrated. He's the one character who, even when a bit much like in season 2, is at least fun or funny. And I always appreciate his consistent character trait: being a big tryhard goof when he purposefully tries to turn up the rizz, but is actually naturally charismatic and even charming when he's just being earnest and himself. Worked with Korra and even came up again in season 2 and 3.
34:19 Actually, it has been announced that there will be an earth avatar series that is set to release in 2025! It will most likely be about the avatar after Korra, though I am not 100% sure, it might be an earth avatar from before Aang's time, maybe even Kyoshi herself but I doubt it.
Fun fact since you guys mentioned the upcoming new avatar stuff. Avatar studios is producing a movie about adult Aang and the gang, they are making an adult Zuko movie and also talks of a Kyoshi movie. AND they are a go for the next Avatar following Korra which will be an Earth Avatar. To say I'm excited is an understatement!
Guys, from what I heard there’s a whole plan for the avatar universe. There’s gonna be the Aang and the team when their adults movie but we’re supposedly also getting another avatar series set after Korea’s time which will then be followed by another Team Avatar movie (focus on zuko I think) then a new avatar movie set in the time period of the new series. I only heard this in one video though and didn’t confirm the information so I could be talking out the side of my neck.
It's actually confirmed by Avatar Studios and not just rumors that starting November 2025 they'll be realising several animated movies and a new show about the next Earthbending Avatar in a cyberpunk setting. The first movie will be that about the Gaang, followed by a Kyoshi one and another ATLA movie more focused on Zuko. Also the live-action show but I'm not sure if we should be excited about that one.
To answer Mason's question, they are actively working on two animated movies, one of Zuko during his Firelord days, I believe, and one of an older Gaang. In addition, they are also working on another series, set after The Legend of Korra, about the next Earth bending Avatar. Edit: All Avatars can Earth bend, but I mean that the next Avatar is an Earth Avatar, just as Aang was an Air Avatar and Korra is a Water Avatar. AFTER this next series, I assume they'll do a series about a Fire Avatar just to bring the franchise full circle.

If I'm not mistaken, Asami WAS supposed to be the bad guy, but the creator changed their mind because they fell in love with her character and probably the voice actor, as well. That's why her first introduction is a bit sus and a lot of people who watch the show didn't trust her.
Considering there is a love triangle (is it even a triangle? xD), I'd be interested in who you guys think will end up together at the end of the series (end of book 4) or end up with nobody ... or if you think there will be new characters introduced that they end up with ... I'd like to see a prediction right now (considering you are currently at the end of book 1/beginning of book 2 on patreon, that would be a good time to drop predictions as you are familiar with the characters ^^
Two things you can also take away from how quickly Amon wipes the Wolf Bats, I think, is: 1. The fact that they cheat to secure their victory. Who knows how long they've been doing that. 2. The difference between pro-bending and practical "real" bending/fights. The Wolf Bats are pro-benders before anything else, while Korra was trained by masters to fight outside of an arena like that. Oak listed a lot of things pro-bending undoubtedly teaches Korra, but I think her more classical training helps her out a ton. You can see it against the equalists but also in her little hat trick move. That particular move, to me, was very classical water bender and different from a lot of the moves you see in pro-bending, AKA the whole going with the flow and shifting and moving with the fight thing that water is known for. Basically, Korra's just better trained, as we also saw in that tiebreaker 1v1.
The fact that chi-blocking apparently is illegal now is kind of disturbing, honestly. It's like saying 'These people can carry guns at all times, and YOU people aren't allowed to take them away even temporarily'.
I like the animation for the fight scenes they have in Korra like it’s everything in last Airbender but times 10. & I like how threatening Amon is so far
I know when I first watched I had that same suspicion that Tarlok was setting Korra up to go too aggressive against normal people and increase public support for Amon and create resentment for Korra. I have absolutely no memory of how that actually went though. Also dude the intro narrator for this series is so good. I can't get over it.
46:40 I- actually never thought of it that way! I always just thought it was the Wolfbats so they could win the Tournament, never thought of it as Amon's plan so he doesn't have to face Avatar Korra yet! He did say he had a whole plan for her, so it all makes sense he did this.

About Korra plaing some sport and not looking for Amon. Its not Aang era. She cannot just running around and punch people who look like thugs. This is police stuff. Or early anti-terrorist group. And Avatar is neither of that. Chief of police dont even want her in city. I'm almost sure that this problem with society distancing from Avatar authority will be much bigger for next avatar after Korra.
One good thing about the villains in Legend of Korra is that all of them have some valid point, they may be extremists and all but they have a point and it is valid to think about. This point is far superior to Legend of Aang where Fire Lord Ozai was just the plain one dimension overlord wannabe.
I wont spoil anything but I can not wait until you all get to season 3 - S3 really took my breath away. I particularly can not wait to hear the Oak's reaction to S3.
each season is a year in there time. Book One: Korra 17, Mako 18, Bolin 16, Asami 18 Book Two: Korra 18, Mako 19, Bolin 17, Asami 19 Book Three: Korra 18, Mako 20, Bolin 18, Asami 20 Book Four: Korra 21, Mako 22, Bolin 20, Asami 22 for anyone confused, obviously they have different birthdays so there are times when their ages overlap. But for the broad aspect throughout most of the 4 books, Korra starts off at 17 and ends at 21, while Bolin is a year younger than her, and Mako and Asami are a year older. Tenzin is about 55 in the first book aswell. And Aang died at 66 while biologically he was 166.
The reason why episodes, plots, or character intros feel fast is because of Nickelodeon's massive mishandling of the series. Bryan and Mike were contacted for 14 episodes, but halfway through Book 1 it Nick got greedy with the popularity and changed the contract to 12 episodes for Book 1 and an additional 4 full seasons! Bryke tried their best to tell their original story for the show, but Nick's mismanagement ended up affecting the series and their relationship with the creators. I think Bryke pulled off the series as best as they could with their circumstance and made some weak and strong seasons (#3 being my favorite!)

It's important to be aware that this show was only supposed to be 1 season, in many ways it was build to be Avatar season 4. So season 1 pretty much wraps up everything. But then they learned that there would be one last season, so they had to set things up again and make another ending. And then they learned that the show would have 2 more seasons, so they had to set things up again for a third time. On top of that, they had to work with a very blurry idea of the budget they had, which means the writing and animation quality fluctuates heavily throughout the show, and never quite reaches the quality of season 1. Season 2 specificly is generally disliked for how it somewhat breaks the lore. Had the writers known, they probably wouldn't have concluded season 1 the way they did. My personal choice is to regard seasons 2, 3 and 4 as non-canon, but I do encourage people to check them out, there's still some good stuff in there.
I was really hoping for an Avatar State moment in ep6, but even without it, what a cool episode! The fighting choreography in this series definitely is very impressive.

Agree! For what they were given, the team who wrote this show did such a great job of making each season play into Korra's overall character development. Season 2 included! Definitely the weakest, but not a bad season at all and absolutely necessary for setting up season 3 and 4.

The scene where that guy is getting his bending taken away is honestly so cool, it goes from lightning to fire to nothing cause that’s kinda how the skill progresses with the heat rising to form lightning
korra has one of the best feats in the avatar universe. every time she loses a battle she learns from her mistakes and gets right back on her feets like how she knows how to counter chi blockers now she learns from her enemies mistakes
Aang did the same 🤔. Both are adapting to a new world, each learned from their mistakes and grow from them both from a personal/emotional standpoint and from a situational standpoint. They each deal with romance. Aang was very connected with spiritual side and Korra which the physical. That's about the only thing that is different about them character wise. Though I guess Korra has to deal with more types of bending than Aang did when he was going through his journey.

I think one of my favorite parts about this show in all its seasons is the family dynamic and family humor with Tenzin's family. The story has to be centered around Korra, because she's the avatar, but the writers really give us a lot of time to spend with Aang's family that he leaves behind, and its such a powerful presence in the show that in a way becomes its own character, much like Zuko and Iroh did in the original show.

I love it when they introduce sub-bending abilities like blood or metal benders. And it's not ropes as in tough fabric, but metal that they can manipulate at any will to any shape or length

Nah Mako still deserves the hate. Pema actually did good for the sake of the world. Had Tenzin ended up with Lyn, their kids would have 1/3 chance of being born airbenders, earthbenders or nonbenders. As Pema's a nonbender and Air Nomad's ways increase the chance of getting a bending almost up to 100%, all their kids are airbenders. Pema's the main reason airbenders are coming back from extinction.

I think these episodes vibe a lot with us older people, because they're VERY 1980s. Like Goonies, Lucas, Karate Kid and etc. The standard new guy in a new place, there's the girl he likes but it's complicated. Then there's the bullies who are like, "You can't snowboard here! It's our mountain! We'll battle for it!" That kind of 80s movies we all grew up with, with the cheesiness. It's so campy to watch!

I’m kind of sad becoming friends after an ill-fated crush fizzles out was described as “brutal friendzoning” for Bolin. It’s just teen drama; tragic one day, forgotten the next. It’s not like it means anything.
That makes me crazy. Here’s no such thing as friendzoning. Korra is allowed to not have romantic feelings for bolin just as mako is alllwed to not have romantic feelings for korra. It’s not something you “do to” someone else. You simply feel how you feel. That expression is rooted in entitlement and it’s so gross.
I mean it was brutal friendzoning Korra knew she didnt like him like that but since she was mad at mako she went out with him and remember he said a Date that implies romantic feelings. The only other word for it besides brutal friendzoning is Deceptive dating. Like ik shes a "Confused teenage girl" but she knew she liked mako and not him she was just cruel to bolin for no reason and the show just wants you to be like yep that's not her fault tho

She didn’t get mad until Mako made it clear that he was jealous, sending mixed signals, which happened after the date.
All three sides made mistakes. Bolin hadn’t taken the hint after weeks of Korra not responding to his advances, increasing the odds of hitting her at a low point. Mako couldn’t stick to his choices, and Korra was too focused on Mako to notice Bolin wasn’t looking for something casual.
And “date” is a much more flexible term than you seem to think, mate. Going on one date is not agreeing to start an exclusive relationship. You agree (or don’t) to start the relationship when you’re discussing the date afterwards, which Korra and Bolin clearly hadn’t done yet.
You’re acting like Korra cheated on him or something. That’s what Mako did to Asami when he leaned into the kiss instead of away like Katara did when Aang pulled an “I’ll unconfuse you baby”

It was a stupid, selfish, sloppy rebound. Korra is guilty of being thoughtless, naive, and tunnel-visioned, but she’s not the only person at fault or the sole cause of everyone’s misery.
And by the end of the episode, Bolin didn’t have a crush anymore and Korra had made her disinterest clear. They became friends mutually and never brought it up between each other again. Nobody got “friendzoned”. They forgot about it so quickly it couldn’t have been “brutal”. That’s all I’m saying.

My boy Brolin is so underrated. He's the one character who, even when a bit much like in season 2, is at least fun or funny. And I always appreciate his consistent character trait: being a big tryhard goof when he purposefully tries to turn up the rizz, but is actually naturally charismatic and even charming when he's just being earnest and himself. Worked with Korra and even came up again in season 2 and 3.

Avatar studios is producing a movie about adult Aang and the gang, they are making an adult Zuko movie and also talks of a Kyoshi movie. AND they are a go for the next Avatar following Korra which will be an Earth Avatar. To say I'm excited is an understatement!

Guys, from what I heard there’s a whole plan for the avatar universe. There’s gonna be the Aang and the team when their adults movie but we’re supposedly also getting another avatar series set after Korea’s time which will then be followed by another Team Avatar movie (focus on zuko I think) then a new avatar movie set in the time period of the new series. I only heard this in one video though and didn’t confirm the information so I could be talking out the side of my neck.
It's actually confirmed by Avatar Studios and not just rumors that starting November 2025 they'll be realising several animated movies and a new show about the next Earthbending Avatar in a cyberpunk setting. The first movie will be that about the Gaang, followed by a Kyoshi one and another ATLA movie more focused on Zuko. Also the live-action show but I'm not sure if we should be excited about that one.
To answer Mason's question, they are actively working on two animated movies, one of Zuko during his Firelord days, I believe, and one of an older Gaang. In addition, they are also working on another series, set after The Legend of Korra, about the next Earth bending Avatar.
Edit: All Avatars can Earth bend, but I mean that the next Avatar is an Earth Avatar, just as Aang was an Air Avatar and Korra is a Water Avatar. AFTER this next series, I assume they'll do a series about a Fire Avatar just to bring the franchise full circle.

If I'm not mistaken, Asami WAS supposed to be the bad guy, but the creator changed their mind because they fell in love with her character and probably the voice actor, as well. That's why her first introduction is a bit sus and a lot of people who watch the show didn't trust her.
Considering there is a love triangle (is it even a triangle? xD), I'd be interested in who you guys think will end up together at the end of the series (end of book 4) or end up with nobody ... or if you think there will be new characters introduced that they end up with ...

Yay Asami! She's my favorite character in Legend of Korra.
Two things you can also take away from how quickly Amon wipes the Wolf Bats, I think, is:
1. The fact that they cheat to secure their victory. Who knows how long they've been doing that.
2. The difference between pro-bending and practical "real" bending/fights. The Wolf Bats are pro-benders before anything else, while Korra was trained by masters to fight outside of an arena like that. Oak listed a lot of things pro-bending undoubtedly teaches Korra, but I think her more classical training helps her out a ton. You can see it against the equalists but also in her little hat trick move. That particular move, to me, was very classical water bender and different from a lot of the moves you see in pro-bending, AKA the whole going with the flow and shifting and moving with the fight thing that water is known for.
Basically, Korra's just better trained, as we also saw in that tiebreaker 1v1.

One good thing about the villains in Legend of Korra is that all of them have some valid point, they may be extremists and all but they have a point and it is valid to think about.
This point is far superior to Legend of Aang where Fire Lord Ozai was just the plain one dimension overlord wannabe.

for anyone confused, obviously they have different birthdays so there are times when their ages overlap. But for the broad aspect throughout most of the 4 books, Korra starts off at 17 and ends at 21, while Bolin is a year younger than her, and Mako and Asami are a year older. Tenzin is about 55 in the first book aswell. And Aang died at 66 while biologically he was 166.

The reason why episodes, plots, or character intros feel fast is because of Nickelodeon's massive mishandling of the series. Bryan and Mike were contacted for 14 episodes, but halfway through Book 1 it Nick got greedy with the popularity and changed the contract to 12 episodes for Book 1 and an additional 4 full seasons! Bryke tried their best to tell their original story for the show, but Nick's mismanagement ended up affecting the series and their relationship with the creators. I think Bryke pulled off the series as best as they could with their circumstance and made some weak and strong seasons (#3 being my favorite!)

It's important to be aware that this show was only supposed to be 1 season, in many ways it was build to be Avatar season 4. So season 1 pretty much wraps up everything. But then they learned that there would be one last season, so they had to set things up again and make another ending. And then they learned that the show would have 2 more seasons, so they had to set things up again for a third time.
On top of that, they had to work with a very blurry idea of the budget they had, which means the writing and animation quality fluctuates heavily throughout the show, and never quite reaches the quality of season 1. Season 2 specificly is generally disliked for how it somewhat breaks the lore. Had the writers known, they probably wouldn't have concluded season 1 the way they did.
My personal choice is to regard seasons 2, 3 and 4 as non-canon, but I do encourage people to check them out, there's still some good stuff in there.
