For the folks that do not know what a fossa is: A fossa is a carnivorous mammal native to Madagascar. Despite resembling a cat, it is actually more closely related to mongooses and other members of the Eupleridae family. The fossa is the largest predator on Madagascar and plays a crucial role in controlling the population of lemurs, which make up a significant part of its diet.
Dude I have to say I find a comment from you in almost every video reaction I have seen from so many channels to the point it’s become a game to me seeing if I find a comment from you in a video
fun fact: the penguin named Rico is voiced by John Dimaggio (aka Bender and Jake) and in an interview he said that whenever he had to do a gagging sound for Rico whenever he gags something up, he did it so well and so much that the voice director had to stop him everytime cause he was making her sick.
"Oh Sugar Honey Iced Tea!" Still an amazing line, and just one of many reasons that this movie is comedy gold! Other reasons include "What a Wonderful World", the Penguins, King Julien, and Nana beating up Alex.
And later Alex Marty Melvin in Gloria eventually get their own show as well. Although I don't know how I feel about the show. Consider they turned into a preschool show.
@@justcoolerthenyou8926 I've only seen a couple episodes of that show. Yeah, it did look boring. But you can't just tell somebody. They can't talk about it because people will do that sometimes. But I won't bring it up a lot.
10:57 "This is just Castaway" Funny you should say that, bc Alex makes a handprint-faced ball friend named Spalding later on as a reference to Wilson in Castaway. It was a one-off gag but still hilarious 😂
Such a fun Dreamworks classic! Lots of hilarious moments like “oh sugar honey ice tea,” the old lady going jujitsu on Alex, and “well this sucks”. Ofc, this film’s version of “I Like to Move It” is a major banger!
Anybody else notice the surprising amount of penguin content we got in the 2000s? Between these guys, Club Penguin, Happy Feet, March of the Penguins, and Surfs Up, I think I understand why I loved penguins as a kid! (Still do)
There was also a movie called, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” that came out in 2011 staring Jim Carrey. I don’t know if you’ve seen it. That’s just another penguin movie that I remember from when I was a kid.
I recently hear that king Julien was supposed to be a background character and have not so many dialogues, but they liked what the actor did with the character, especially the song, and the directors had to rewrite the whole script to add more since it was so funny.
To clarify for the following movies: -The leader of the penguins with the smooth voice is Skipper -The tall one that talks science is Kowalski -The silent one with the big beak and weapons is Rico -And the little cute one with the buggy eyes that keeps getting slapped is Private.
Sacha Cohen as Julien is honestly the true GOAT of this franchise. The penguins' existence makes it 50 times better, but King Julien is more iconic! He even had one of those cursed Dreamworks Netflix series back in the day (All Hail, King Julien), even if the penguins got their own series first (Penguins of Madagascar) on Nickelodeon. (And, of course, they have their own movie...)
One thing I think is underrated about the Madagascar trilogy is the score by Hans Zimmer, who has done a surprisingly large amount of composition for Dreamworks films. It mostly operates on theme and variation. Then with the sequels adds a little something each time. It's not just the plot that has great cohesion over the three films, but also the music. (Don't get me wrong I love the Penguins film, but I'm focussing on the OG trilogy for this comment)
I remember with Andy Richter, the voice of Mort, went on Jeopardy and just dominated. Everyone was shocked that this guy who was famous for being a bumbling sidekick was a genius.
8:11 This line triggered a distant memory of mine... I used to own the DVD for this movie and there was a mini game called "Penguin Escape" and this line would play every time the penguins got caught.
Madagascar won the award in my house for "Most Paused Frames on Purpose" when my siblings and i were younger. And it took us years to understand Sugar Honey Iced Tea. As kids we just thought it was a funny thing said in slow motion.
"Smile and wave" It came out in 2005. The gold old days for animation movies. Shrek was also around that tume Absolutely love this movie. Better than Lion King
The abuse of Private is a lot worse if you consider the fact that they are Adélie penguins, whose mating practices are so vile, the researcher who first studied them wrote his notes in ancient Greek to avoid them getting published. Male Adélies will mate with _literally anything_ if given the chance.
The Penguins are the GOATs of animal movies, never before or after has there been a better animal crew. Also there is an amazing Conan O'Brien skit with them.
I went to the Bronx zoo last year and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. They have peacocks there and they let them roam freely. While I was sitting on a bench waiting for my family to finish an exhibit, a peacock strutted up to me and was standing literally TWO FOOT away from me. It was a truly magical experience. Go visit a zoo if you guys get time and/or money to do it, highly recommend!
Bree has a point. Madagascar is one of those animated trilogies that actually worked so it’s worth a shot. Plus, you should check out the spinoff film of the penguins afterwards.
For reference, hippos are considered the single most dangerous land creature on planet earth (excluding humans) so let that be your frame of reference on the “hippo vs …” questions lol.
7:49 After you have now seen the first Madagascar movie, I can't wait for your guys reaction to the second one! 😂 And the third and the Madagascar Penguins movie too. 😆
Fossa are a type of mongoose. Fun fact: cats, hyenas, and mongeese are all closely related because they all fall into the feliformes genus. Fossas looking like small mountain lions isn't just a coincidence.
12:00 I've grown up in San Diego and our zoo is pretty neat, IMHO; so when I saw this at 7 years old and they seemed upset thinking they'd landed in San Diego, I was mildly and humorously offended 😂
So fun fact the penguins from these movies were so loved that they actually got there own series which is pretty good I think and then a movie so also I'm just saying I'm hoping the Madagascar game bree is talking about is 2 cause that ish is my childhood so good
Ah I remember being an autistic 8 y/o girl and watching this on repeat every night to sleep. If I didn’t have it I remember I would be so anxious and throw up. Doing much better now! Still love this movie, and I remember way more than I care to admit! 😭
If you guys ever come over to Arizona, we have one of those drive thru reserves. It's half a drive through safari (though mostly forest and plain animals) and half a normal walk around zoo. It's called "Bear-izona" (yes, the name is a pun) and is honestly pretty fun for a smaller zoo. I highly recommend coming closer to winter months, because it is in the part of Arizona that actually gets snow and seeing their otters playing in the snow will give you the biggest cuteness overload. Bree would probably die of cuteness overload. XD
No Joke I literally thought about this movie for the first time in years yesterday and then suddenly you guys are watching it today its scary sometimes how much that happens.
Weirdly, I did the same thing! Me and my friends were talking about zoos and I was like “Isn’t there a zoo in Central Park?” And my friend told me no! That I was just thinking of this movie.
5:33 reminds me of when Achievement Hunter (I think Jack and Geoff at the time) were playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and they pissed off a hippo, which attacked them, destroyed the boat, and chased after them 😂
Wait, do people think Madagascar 3 is bad?? I loved it and watched it a million times when it came out (as a kid)...I hope you guys watch both sequels and the Penguins' spin-offs cuz they're all really good. I have a feeling you'll especially like Madagascar 3's villain👀
Oh this is such a classic and the second one too. I only watched the 3rd one like 2 times but you absolutely have to do the second Madagascar it's awesome.

Hm, you learn something new every day, I would've never learned this if you didn't say it lol
I had a feeling fossa was a name they gave predators, but i didnt know it was a specific animal. Neat.

There is also a series about the Penguins.
I just got back from NY and did see the Central Park zoo. I guess the penguins did escape bc now the enclosure is now a seal pool
