I don't think any team in the AFL has been more poorly managed from a recruiting/list-management side than North Melbourne in the past decade. If anything North Melbourne have been far too loyal to these guys in the past, they should have been sacked long ago. No key player or position is ever replaced either at the draft or open-market. It's 2022 and they still haven't traded for a forward to replace Drew Petrie from wayback. Draft picks every year have been wasted on players over-valued and not needed.

An obsession with mids. We picked Phillips over key forward MacDonald who was then snapped up the Swans. I'm not saying he is going to be a champion, but he was the logical pick at that time.
@@gustaaf1892 to be fair, we picked Lachie Hansen in 2006 with pick 3 to fill a need and passed on selwood . So let's just wait and see at the end of their careers
Normally I am interested in Kingy’s opinions and find Kane annoying, but king was so comically off the mark it’s not funny.
Firstly, he was happy to kerb-stomp Ned Guy who carried the can for Collingwood’s poor contracts (on national TV mind you), most of which were signed before Ned got to Collingwood, but then when it’s time for one of his mates to do the same it’s “grossly unfair”.
No club’s list manager makes unilateral decisions, and yet it’s always the case for that the list manager is the one to fall on their sword when it goes badly, just as the senior coach carries the can when the game plan doesn’t work (even though they are just one of many coaches).
And I could go on. Basically, by any standard of logic king was wrong.
Last place NMFC will be getting advice from is Caroline Wilson and Kane Cornes.
Nothing unusual about Members Q&A at North, we have them all the time.
I agree with Carey that the club is sticking its head in the sand by being accepting of the disastrous results this season. The results and efforts by the collective player group this season are well below being acceptable and there have to be reasons for this. For me Noble is simply not up to the task of making the rebuild work. It is clear he isn't capable of inspiring the players to put in a 100% effort, which is the least you can expect from a struggling rebuilding club. So far he is also not demonstrating that he can make players better, because the skill levels on display are the worst in the AFL. There is also no identifiable game plan, which further indicates that Noble is out of his depth. There is no excuse for the club performing worse this year than last year. Players refusing to extend their contracts is also very telling, because it is clear they can't see a future under the current set up. I believe Noble is at the heart of many of the club's problems at the moment.
Y ah, trust mate we've all heard you multiple times. Noble goes, and north are back in the top four like your last coach said you'd be.
@@jornavyr2459 That's not what I'm saying at all. It will take a long time for North the be challenging for a top 4 spot, but it will never happen for as long as Noble is at the club. We'll lose the best of our young talent because a number of them will refuse to extend contracts when they realise the club will be an easy-beat with him in charge. Our last 'real' coach did get us into two prelim finals with an average list. Shaw was just another dumb appointment by the club that didn't make sense when you're embarking on a rebuild.
@@gustaaf1892 I think maybe you need to just have at look at the common denominator in North's struggles as of the last five or so years. Scott was driven out, Shaw was sacrificed and it looks like Noble is on the same path. But you surely can't expect another coach to just walk in and turn the ship around, if the people above him aren't interested in it. I've seen you ask why North are worse this year, but that has been a trend for North since Scott's last year. You could very well get worse again next year, regardless of who your coach is. North have trouble bringing in talent, and your veterans are getting to the end of their road. You also don't want to be a club that just churns through coaches. How could you expect to attract a coach of note, if the job looks like a poison chalice and if there is more attractive jobs out there?
If you think picking footy players off a computer screen is competent then none of these clowns deserve a job. Show me a stat for aggression? Because now we have these blokes getting 20 in a beep test but can’t hit a target from 20m away. Full forwards winning a Coleman with 60 goals…. Please.

Does Caro seriously think we're gonna believe that some guy in a high-profile, high-responsibility job at a footy club, is just gonna quit North Melbourne because one ex-player from Port Adelaide said some stuff on Channel 9?
Whatever the reason for Luff quitting, it's probably a lot more to do with his incompetence than whatever Kane Cornes said on a TV show.
I don't think even Kane thinks he has that influence.

The coach has to win back the players because of his outbursts? That makes no sense at all. It should be the players have to respond to the outbursts of the coach because he wouldn’t explode at the players if they were performing. This debacle is an absolute joke. Yes, North are in a rebuild and they are struggling, but seriously Caro is a joke of an analyst. I’m not a North supporter but even I know they’ve been doing those Q&A’s the past few weeks, it wasn’t just a one time thing. North have certainly managed their list poorly over the last 5 years, which I hope they have now learnt from and I hope it puts them in a better position going forward.
David Noble is a fine coach.... his players are crap. When he says you are crap, he is called a bad coach. Wake up, NM has a crap list, there is a few, maybe 10 players that are up to it, the rest are not. NM needs to turn over a lot of players, and in the next few years David Noble will be called a genius.

David King was right, one recruiter doesn’t pick a list, he is asked to provide input from his area of expertise, i.e. moneyball stats, but end of the day it’s a group that chooses a list.

It is not up to Noble to "win back" the players. They should be trying to win back his confidence. He screwed up, possibly permanently when he apologised. This latest version of what is just a 20 year rebuild is already failed.
Noble is too angry because of 1 explosion after a pathetic display, meanwhile on the opposite side of the city there's a category 5 hurricane and a magnitude 9.5 earthquake that's been the senior coach at the Storm for more than 20 years, sums up how soft the AFL has become

I agree with you, but that comment might also factor in how much money North spends on its footy department. That is where North makes a lot of savings compared to what other clubs are spending.
@@gustaaf1892 true, but based on what the afl handouts are, 5 other afl clubs receive more than North. Hard to know without seeing the expenditures of all clubs, but it seemed to be just a bias comment by Caro based on historical out of date facts
@@bradolock Expansion clubs always receive extra money and concessions, seemingly forever. It annoys the crap out of me. How can the Cost Of Living Allowance ever have been justified for the Swans and GWS? An extra 9.8% mostly justified by the cost of buying a house compared to Melbourne. The younger players tend to rent and share houses with each other. Buying a house is also an investment rather than an unrecoverable out of pocket expense. The players don't pay that money back when they realise a large capital gain when they sell their houses. Far too much unjustified free money for some of the clubs. The draft is also corrupted by academy players linked to the expansion clubs.
Cola is justified because a big Mac and a latte cost more in nsw.

@@chocolatebear333 Kane Cornes dropped the name on the Monday show. Caro is just talking about what was said and the fallout. Also, nobody walks out of a club, just from one vague comment from a journalist. There was obviously something brewing and more to it than just Kane's comments. I know for a fact North fans have been frustrated with North's recruiting for a numbers of years.

I seriously doubt Adam Simpson will be let go from West Coast as he is not the problem. Blokes like Jack Darling who are inconsistent, hard to work with and clearly a disturbing presence in the locker room (eg: his STUPID vaccination debacle) need to go way before Simpson does and the sooner the better.
Simpson is the reason those senior players are so entitled. He's an amazing coach and could take a fresh-faced group of A-listers very far (until a rebuild, then he's out!)
Kane cornes so badly wants to be the biggest news breaker in footy and he doesn’t care if it’s true or who gets hurt in the process
This wasn't breaking news, he simply highlighted someone out who is underperforming which happens every week on these shows. Watch until the end it was more about the lack of response from North management after Kanes commments rather than the initial call.

Ross is painfully reserved and Lloyd has very limited insight outside of game analysis.
