Mark Ricciuto's comments about casual racism were disgraceful. He should be sacked from the Adelaide Crows Board for what he said. As for Taylor is penalty is beyond soft 6 matches with full pay give me a break. They banned a woman for two years who made a racist comment at an AFL Game. Taylor has already had enough Racism Education you cannot change his Racist thoughts with more education the Crows need to sack him and move on.

This is perfectly summed up - banning a woman for 2 years for a racist comment then banning him for 6 weeks despite the litany of education he's received..... it doesn't stack up. Casual racism refers to throwaway comments or words people use that carry racist undertones. Things like "I'm not racist, but..." and going on to make a generalisation about people from a particular culture or race, or "Where are you really from?" which can make people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in their own country.
I think what Tex did was completely unacceptable and should most definitely never play footy again. He's gotta do the work to truly understand the hurt he caused. BUT I also think it wasn't malicious. I don't think he's bright enough to do that. I think he grew up in a country town that is apparently quite well known for not being the most open minded place, and once he became an adult he never took the time to interrogate his own thinking and behaviour. It's an Australia wide thing. We've all gotta put the work in and be there for our Indigenous family and our multicultural family. Its whether or not people wanna do it that will define if we move forward or not.

I stand against racism and have suffered from it most my life but this witch hunt on Walker now needs to stop. He doesn’t nor does Adelaide owe any of us full details of what happened or what is going to happen to point this all in the right direction, we can see Walker has been hit hard by his stupidity and keeping this going in the media and demanding him front them is not productive to anyone and only pushes a man even further into despair. Don’t get me wrong I am not defending Walker and am a Port supporter not a Crows one so I am not saying this because I am a supporter but keeping this going only hurts Taylor, the Crows and Robby further. With the enormous focus on stamping out racism and almost weekly deification of indigenous footballers and scathing attacks on anyone who says or does anything perceived to be racist, today's environment is a far cry from what Nicky Winmar and others endured in the 70s, 80's and even 90's.
If he believed Walker genuinely despised him because of the colour of his skin there is no chance in hell he would have agreed to sit with him a few days after the abuse. A genuine racist would not repent and beg forgiveness .

What annoys me is these PR stunts that the AFL and football clubs come out with where he has to awkwardly film a video with Robbie and sulk about it and whatever else. It's uncomfortable for Robbie, Taylor and the fans. It is cringe level to see a grown man crying in a video...not because of what he said but because he got caught and is in the public eye and worried about his career. Unfortunately Taylor said the wrong thing and I feel tremendously for Robbie, his family and his people. However I would have much preffered Taylor contact Robbie in private and understand the deeper level of emotion. I would have preferred if he took some time to understand the culture and why he should be sensitive about these things and accept his sanctions. Would have been a lot more sincere if Taylor and the Adelaide football club took some time to digest this and in a few weeks or months once you have truely learnt your lesson then put your hand up and say you sincerely regret what you have said...This just feels forced and looks like a guy worried about his career, not about what he has said and who he has affected.
Mistakes do happen, however 6 matches is very little which means he will be back by round 4 of 2022. If the game is serious about stamping out racism, you should be banned for a whole calendar year (I won't say banned for life because mistakes happen...however reflection and understanding is a big part and you are all mature footballers who are role models...particularly the players...you have kids looking up to you. 6 games is fairly light and I'm ashamed the AFL wants to push this under the rug and doesn't take a bigger stance...particularly with all the ads of Eddie betts about racism...indigenous round and the AFL documentaries that have been released in the past year detailing the struggles of indigenous players.

He was caught out, punished and has now apologised. We do not need another month of lectures and pontification on there being no place for racism. Why was Robbie Young brave to be sitting there with Walker? The misuse of this word is one of the great faults of this modern era. Everybody is brave. You quit on your Olympic team and you are brave. Tell the world you have anxiety and mental demons-you are a hero and an inspiration. It is so ridiculous. What was Young risking other than endless praise and congratulations for sitting beside Walker?
Move on. I am so tired of rare incidents like this being blown up and inflamed by the media so they can parade their virtue and cow tow to the indigenous community in a contest to see who show who has the most empathy and awareness of their white privilege.

How is Tex going to be able look his indigenous teammates in the eye again? I say it's career over & all respect is gone.

Quite easily I'd think. Footballers and mates say things in the heat of the moment all the time. I've heard mates call umpires bald headed maggots and I don't immediately assume they have hatred of all bald men. Walkers indigenous teammates will judge him on a decade of behaviour at the club, while training, socializing and playing and not on one isolated incident.

What did he say? I’d say calling someone bald is in a way different category to being racist against an entire demographic of people

@@markharrison6498 Sigh. I didn't say they were in the same category but both comments can be spoken in a moment of rage or frustration and both could come from someone who feels no real hatred or bigotry. As I said-such abuse is not appropriate but the overreaction is what sickens me. Nobody truly thinks Walker is a racist. He's just an idiot for saying what he said.

Ricciuto didn't say it was casual racism, he just mentioned casual racism. Which is a good place to start. I think Heretier Lumumba mentioned casual racism as well, specifically about nipping racism in the bud.

the soft punishment Tex is getting here is exactly why racism is still a problem in the sport. Here in Australia, we love giving soft slaps on the wrist for criminals in our justice system. It's the same with social media and racism. Until the AFL and everyone involved starts getting serious with heavy sanctions, this will keep happening. As Eddie Betts said, it's like we are going backwards, not forwards on the issue.

Making a racial comment is like calling an over weight person a "fat ass". There's no intelligence behind it and Taylor's racial comment was evidence that supports my argument that he's thick. Mark Ricciuto's statement was so pathetic it's embarrassing. Mark, would Taylor be feeling embarrassed and regretful right now if the incident wasn't reported to the club by the club official? I doubt it... You two would probably be laughing about it in your "boys club"
