    With all that labour involved, would it not be much cheaper and much quicker just to put real bamboo fence in?

    • @lmullen56
      @lmullen56 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +DazzaBurns22 And then in 15 to 20 years replace the rotted bamboo fence with another bamboo fence?

    • @Professional_Youtube_Commenter
      @Professional_Youtube_Commenter 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +lmullen56 lol bamboo rotting. Bamboo does not rot at all.
      Plus this concrete "fake bamboo" is going to be heavy as fuck. it does not have any metal structural support so it will break. I don't want to have to pay out for injuries sustained after someone gets injured after the concrete brakes and falls on someone.

    Good question - but one which is difficult to answer. It depends on the type of concrete used, thickness of the rubber, texture on the surface, etc. These are production molds. Rebound 25 has very high performance characteristics and should provide a lifetime of castings when handled properly..

    Smooth-On, I'm late to the party; How does it look, standing the sections on end using a single channel support beam, top and bottom? Like that bamboo pattern. -- What is the average workable time with the Rebound25 , example, 1 gal bucket , 1 man, 3 minutes or 5 gal bucket, 2 men, 3 minutes. How many cycles can you get from a Rebound25 mold? Noticed your guys were putting their weight into its separations. Thanks for the vids, super good looking product.

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't the details have been even better if they would have created the grooves in the bamboo first instead of after the pour and scratching like they did?

  • @edonsmith8616
    @edonsmith8616 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you choose to use fiberglass instead of traditional/more alkali resistant reinforcement? It is well documented that fiberglass degrades rapidly in the harsh alkali environment of concrete. I realize that glass is "stiff" but what good will it be when it degrades to 50% or less of its original strength?

  • @MrPhillerup

    I like the detail and the concrete should outlast a bamboo fence, but I would really like any information on the sound deadening quality of this product.
    Would it make a good fence along the edge of a subdivision with high vehicle traffic? Truck traffic as well?

    • @docthebiker
      @docthebiker 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +phillip harden It should have a slightly better acoustic deadening quality then a flat GFRC wall/fence of the same thickness as the curves (if they face the sound source) will disrupt the wave pattern as it strikes the surface at different times. This will diffuses acoustic rebound and sympathetic resonance.
      That's the science bit.
      I don't know if CFRC has better sound absorbance quality than ordinary concrete, per se, but I suspect the fibres will act like air bubbles and give increase the insulation against heat and acoustic transfer you get with foamed concrete.

    It's incredible how these workers never wear a mask, even applying fiber glass!, it must be an unavoidable rule in this factory, this is owner's responsibility.

    • @billtheswordguy5914
      @billtheswordguy5914 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No its not...not in THAT company and likely not in that country! Never assume the nanny state will take care of you...get your own PPE and check that its not some cockamamie Chinese counterfeit. (got counterfeit cartridges for MY mask, and they were filled with toilet tissue! Grin!
      IF the company was about to get sued for damages to workers lungs, they would find the masks quick enough! But sadly, even where there are laws, who could afford a lawyer? I don't care for such working conditions myself, and would not run a factory that way.

    • @edwaggonersr.7446
      @edwaggonersr.7446 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why is it the owner's responsibility. The employees looked like adults, should we treat them like little children just because they are working for somebody? They are adults, they can buy and wear a mask, quit or do as they are doing. It is their business and responsibility.

    • @UneasiestDaisy

  • @billtheswordguy5914
    @billtheswordguy5914 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Its a good video. I don't think I would have made a fence that way...but the architect and owners were happy. They made it in a labour intensive fashion (employment is a good thing) , and the workers probably should have had better ppe...even a damp bandanna...but thats not the point of the video. This fairly expensive mold did a fine job, and I learned a lot from the video. Thank you.

    • @markarhu
      @markarhu 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That may not be the point of the video but it is a telltale sign that the manufacturer has little respect for the health of it's employees. A company so blind that it would proudly and quite publicly show how it endangers the lives of its workers - would you agree to working conditions such as these?

    • @billtheswordguy5914
      @billtheswordguy5914 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      KM HU
      I DID say they could have used more PPE. Thats Personal Protective Equipment. I have worked in similar conditions, and made sure I had a dust mask at the very least, a respirator at best, and safety boots and glasses. So to your question....sure...providing I was able to somehow get my own PPE. Do you feel that the company is responsible for providing PPE?

    • @wildcat19671
      @wildcat19671 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      KM HU you know I would bet this is in an underdeveloped country somewhere the guys working are probably very happy to be working and could probably care less about ppe. hell their boss may not even know it is needed.

    • @markarhu
      @markarhu 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's sad but very interesting that you think working people in an "underdeveloped country" don't care about the impact of toxins on their long-term health... I guess that means your only concern is for the price of the products sent from the "third" to the "first" world: they must be the cheapest possible, so no unnecessary expenditures like PPEs. After all, as you say, these people are so lucky to be working at all, so what if a few die, plenty more where that labourer came from... What a perverted view!

    • @wildcat19671
      @wildcat19671 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In fact my attitude about such things is quite different than you seem to think. My comment was observation driven, and not driven by an underlying attitude of indifference to the fact that ppe is needed here. Your assumption that I care nothing about people in third world countries and that my lack of caring is consumer driven is offensive and downright wrong. In fact, the driving factors in which products I purchase have nothing to do with price, and a great deal to do with value. I buy things according to quality standards cheap crap made in third world countries has no interest for me at all. I will pay 5 times the price for something that will last me a lifetime rather than buy five or more of that same thing during my life. By the way have you ever been to a third world country and tried to talk about things like ppe . A vast majority of the time they laugh at you. You see people are going to do what they do. When the big concern you have is where your next meal for your children is going to come from you don't give a rats ass about ppe. If you think otherwise you have never experienced anything like that. Now go make uninformed assumptions about someone else. If you want to do something about this I would suggest buying some ppe for these guys and hopping on a plane and taking it to them they will either thank you of laugh at you. I would bet real money if you did; that two minuets after you leave they sell it for some food and keep on drawing particles into their lungs.
