I have to admit this is one of the scariest episodes if not the scariest… just the implication of a stranger being in your home and knowing they’re under your bed but you can’t do anything about it, terrifying
I think it’d be less scary if it was just some stranger. Yes both are terrifying but the fact that whatever this thing is can just blink in and out of existence or at least turn invisible, is freaking terrifying.
But I 100% agree, this is one of the scarier ones I’ve seen. Haven’t had something that made me launch myself away from my bed to go to the bathroom at night in a LONG time.😂
This one & the intruder in house one (the very 1st episode of this story) are by far most scariest for me
@@sewmicah 😂so glad I’m not the only one that’s launched myself out of bed like that out of fear. Kind of a comical image lol but in the moment the fear is quite real. Kinda like sprinting up the stairs in the dark at night taking steps 2-3 at a time for the fear of something being behind you. ( have always binged scary videos/movies/books etc., was always home alone at night & my childhood home creepy af surrounded by the woods)

ive just realised the amount of layers to the police part. the “dispatcher” asks him “whats your location” before even asking for the extent of the emergency/ situation and aims multiple times to get where he is out of him. furthermore, the slamming of the doors gets increasingly more scary the more you analyse it. the “dispatcher” is in the house, yet failed to get out of him which room he has gone into to hide, therefore using sound to narrow down which room he must be in, inevitably taunting him simultaneously. as the slamming of the doors edges closer to the bathroom, the slam over the phone would get slightly louder, and louder, and louder “sir are you still in the bathroom?”

The first question emergency services should ask if for your location, at least in the united states. There is a call used to train dispatchers where an elderly woman called 911 for an intruder in her house. The dispatcher instead was asking her questions about the intruder and she was attacked on the line. You can hear her screams as she's being attacked. They'll play it for dispatchers to insure that they get the location right away. This is what I was taught is supposed to be done.
Um, no. Dispatchers do in fact ask for location first. And clearly he did actually call the police so that was probably the actual dispatcher
unrelated to this comment but if anyone is actually in danger and need to call police, the first thing you should say is where you are. Phone lines can disconnect or drop, you could pass out or die on the call or someone could hang up/take your phone from you. This way even if the dispatcher doesn't know what's wrong, they will still send help to your location.

There's a possibility Shane could've had auditory hallucinations before falling asleep. It's actually pretty common. When you're just about to fall asleep, your brain is in a state between wakefulness and unconsciousness. It's like dreaming while you're awake.
@@m0ldy_cupcake yeah! Tbh, fully like 90% of people's so called "paranormal experiences" are actually just common hallucinations as your brain hovers between wakefulness and sleep. People can even hallucinate sensation too, it's happened to me.
@@zoerice4227 I had a personal experience where I heard thundering footsteps behind me as I fell asleep. I jolted awake and the sounds were gone. Its scary, but there is nothing paranormal about it.
@@m0ldy_cupcake yup, scary but not because oooh ghooost. One night I hallucinated someone pulling my hair, I felt it for a split second, but since I don't believe in ghosts I instead looked it up and found out that we can hallucinate actual sensations sometimes!

Real answer? Tempered glass or shatterproof glass. They're used for high rise windows and laboratory equipment. Tempered glass is less likely to break than regular glass and is heat resistant. Shatterproof glass is way less likely to break because it has a resin layer in the center. Get yourself some lab grade glass cups and amaze your friends.

This almost sounds like a story inspired by paranoid schizophrenia brought on by major ocd. Think about it: they have a regular routine, falling out of routine brings on a sense of doom and the belief that someone is trying to harm them. Flickering lights is often a common compulsion among those with OCD as is opening and closing doors multiple times. I may definitely be reading too far into it, but I find it interesting how the narrator puts such an emphasis on having a “routine” and how both episodes starts after something causes them to step out of that regularity. First the glass of water, then running late/not checking the cameras.
it usually bugs me when ppl try to hyper analyze stories like this when they conclusion was clearly not the intention of the author, especially when they theory is kinda dumb, but ts actually sound solid fa once. even if it ain what was intended it’s still pretty cool

As someone with OCD...I disagree. People with OCD don't do compulsive acts just because; the compulsions are performed in order to ward off a threat that's already been perceived and is being obsessed about.
The urge to "confess" is also a major part of OCD. It's not always acted upon, but in a narrative designed to be a first-person tell-all, if the narrator had an obsession that caused the compulsive act of getting up and drinking water, I would expect him to have stated it upfront.
If the narrator had said something like "I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like if I don't drink a glass of water every morning, something terrible will happen," then I'd be in the OCD camp.

As a former 911 dispatcher, yes, we did tell people to get into a safe space that they could lock or secure if they believed someone to be in their house and they were unsure of the intruder’s location. We would say this because trying to run out of the house could be risky if you don’t know where the intruder is or if there are multiple intruders. At least if it’s a location they can lock, this buys time for police to get on scene.
@Cactuss I think the idea is that it's better to stay in one place and hide because if you're trying to escape, you're more likely to make a shit ton of noise and draw attention to yourself. I think this advice would normally just be used for people who call and the intruder doesn't know someone is in the house or doesn't know where they are.
and honestly, it's good advice to give when you're a 911 dispatcher. people are panicking and freaking out because they're in danger, what are you supposed to tell them? "okay, I know you're scared, but what I need you to do is be very very quiet and find a nearby weapon and get ready to attack the intruder!" or you're going to tell them to get out of their house? no lol
when people are terrified and in crisis and they are calling for help, the person they call should do two things: make sure help is on the way and make the person calling feel like they are going to be okay. telling someone to hide is something they can do when they're scared. it's not too overwhelming of a concept, and it gives someone something they can do in order to feel safer and feel like they have some control over what's going on. it's far more likely to keep them safe in a lot of situations too
also remember to keep the lights OFF! they don't know how to navigate your home as well as you do, you have the advantage in the dark

The door to my attic is disguised as a part of the wall. My attic is also a total maze and is full of stuff (Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations, camping equipment, old furniture, etc.) that I could potentially use as a weapon.

I'm terrified of someone living in my house without me knowing. This is why I can't live without a dog. They'll always REACT to someone else. Like, even if they're friendly with the dog, the dog would act wierd.

Nah, my dad had a dobermann when he was a kid, and people would just walk in (his dad was a landlord and they were paying rent I think) and the dog would never even react, he would just kinda lay there look up for a second, and then go back to the position he was in before😂😂 and this is a dog breed that was literally bread to protect its owner and property😬😂

I love horror stories like this where there's no violence or gore, but they work because they're so unsettling. This author also made the creature scary despite it not appearing until the end and not being some horrific looking monster, they seem talented!
Actually, the artist and the author are two different people. The artist is Mollie Ong, and she is VERY talented, but unfortunately, the drawings are only interpretations, so it's very possible that Marcus had a different image in mind at the time of writing.
@@beckettmaffei Oh I know. But the main character called the figure at the end "a person", so I think it's safe to assume we're meant to believe it looked pretty human.
I was thinking it's either going to be something so mundane it's not scary or something so outlandish/paranormal that it's not scary. But I forgot about the uncanny valley. And that's honestly the scariest to me.
Pretty unsettling until the last bit about sticking around to write. "There's some unidentified humanoid under my bed in the dark... let's lie here and type an essay about it!"

@Sam Glueck Oh, I didn't know that. I'm not American so I don't know what the procedures are exactly, but it's mostly "911, what's your emergency?" in all the movies and TV shows that I've watched, so I assumed that was odd.

They ask for location first in Seattle. That gets the ambulance already heading out (I do security and have had to call in frequently due to our large homeless population). Then you give the situation.
Makes sense, in a way. If you can't speak any further, at least they know where (or the person you're calling about)you might be.
In the uk they ask “what services do you require? Police, ambulance or fire service?” Then they redirect you to a operator from that specific department to help you over the phone till professionals arrive

This is a well done story, the author didn't reveal the enemy until the end which adds to that fear factor "Fear of the Unknown", and also the Protagonist is smart in this story because in other stories (sometimes) the protagonist would just open the door and let the enemy kill them.
Why do I find it so amusing when Ryan is talking about Honey in his ominous voice
This incident happened to people on more than one occasion. To a man living alone in Japan. Shit started happening to him. when he checked the security footage, he saw a woman taking a piss in the kitchen sink. While he was checking the footage the woman was standing a few feet away from him. Of course she was arrested for trespassing. When they questioned her she said that she was living in the house attic for a long time, even before the owner moved in.
this is simultaneously the scariest and funniest are you scared? ep so far. the story is well written and well narrated, and the back and forth between shane and ryan, especially the 911 dispatcher segment had me in shambles! i loved it!

One time we were at my dad's house and there was a dispute with my mom. We have a phone tracker on our devices for safety reasons. I look on my phone to see my mother's phone moving towards our current location. I get off my phone and try to defuse the situation while having a full blown panic attack. Not even a minute passes, and I hear my mom's voice call outside the door where we are speaking. At that time she also started knocking on the door and a cold blanket of fear swallows me as my heart drops and I get tunnel vision.
How good the ghost was. He actually wanted the person to see that who's going to kill him by allowing to watch the whole footage rather than just killing him directly.

The thing that takes me completely out of the story is that the narrator apparently decided to write his entire story in excruciating detail, with dialogue and onomatopoeia and everything, while terrified out of his mind after watching security camera footage of _someone_ rolling under his bed, the bed he is currently lying on. Like, text a friend, my guy

There was a real occurence if someone hiding in a person's apartment, living alongside them and sleeping in their closet. The owner of the apartment thought he was going mad until he caught her on a hidden camera
I remember seeing the video and I did not sleep well for a few days after, it was so scary that it happened.
I saw that video also. Thank God I live on the 7th floor.
Some murders even hid in people's closets or under their beds until night.

This is so far the only are u scared episode that genuinely scare me like frfr especially the part where the dispatcher said sir are you still in the bathroom and then about the “man” rolling under the bed he was laying on props to the author of that story they did an insanely amazing job at writing it

That was a good freaking story man. I genuinely didn't know what to expect, even halfway through. The writer is very creative, and good at creating suspense.

I think this is the only one that has actually, genuinely scared me. The rest I was like "yeah alright, kinda creepy but mostly bullshit" but this one's like "ok,, a little bullshit but mostly wtfff!? Horrifying." So..

Very horrifying because the premise of someone hiding in your house playing with you is something that can very much occur in real life, and the unexplainable and somewhat supernatural elements in the story further augmented the creepiness. This might be my favorite story so far and one where the creepy factor lasted until the very end

I took a shower and left my clothes in a pile on the floor. At 3 AM when I tried to use the bathroom I thought there was a shadow monster on the floor and i literally SCREAMED. My poor neighbors>.
