The story behind the murder song.
Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the newspaper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering.
The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. The soul that just rises from the dead body to disappear definitively at the end. Maybe he killed her with her consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own.
You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her (unfortunately I don't have a link to the interview and I can't find it anymore). It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them.
She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well.
It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. But since it all fits together, I think so. Of course, it is written in such a way that many interpretations are possible. Just like Aurora actually always does.
To the countdown. Some people say the "killer" is counting down. On the contrary, the song is sung by the victim all the time. For me that means that she counts down herself and than her boyfriend pulls the trigger.
And she knows that he knows that he kills her for mercy. That means they both know. Sounds like an agreement.
Aurora started playing music and writing songs (in Norwegian) when she was 6, and then in English when she was 9 (now she is 25). She is a singer, songwriter, composer and producer. Her live performances are extraordinary. She is what you call a true empath, very close to nature and down to earth, highly talented and highly intelligent, always positive and funny. She really does talk to their fans, whom she calls warriors and wierdos. She is an absolute free spirit.
Aurora's movements are partly not rehearsed in her concerts. She is introverted and she shows her feelings through involuntary body movements.
She hates backtracks and, that's why she has a backround singer. Everything about her and her music is real. You get what you see, whether on stage or elsewhere.
This concert was also her first appearance in front of an audience of millions. She was extremely fearful. In the interview afterwards, she said that she had almost peed herself. 😁
Billie Eilish, she started her career because of Aurora. Her song "Runaway" was the trigger

Aurora owns a stage, writes incredible songs and arranges like nobody else. She can even blow you away without instrumentation, as seen by the stripped version of Through the Eyes of a Child. Her live performances are better than her official ones, as seen by her song, Lucky in the Nidarosdomen Cathedral concert. She constantly moves you, leaving you feeling something you never thought existed. A truly unique performer; the person who Billie Eilish said moved her to pursue a professional career.

If you are looking for a natural performer, you have struck Gold here. Aurora is one of the most unique and mesmerizing performers and song writers I've ever seen. You definitely should continue this journey. It's the best one I've been on in a very long time. Check out "Through the eyes of a child" live at Nidarosdomen or any performance from that concert. It is so beautiful and the acoustics in that cathedral will blow your socks off. And Terry already told you the story behind the song. Basically a mercy killing of a terminally ill person. But, Aurora always says she wants people to get out of the song what they feel. It can be interpreted in many different ways. Aurora is a 25 year old Norwegian singer/songwriter and producer. At the time of this performance, I believe she was 19. And I agree, she leaves me speechless too

This was cool! Somehow hadn't seen this one yet. Knowing how deeply you would connect with her over time, it's cool to watch this. I almost wish I could forget her....and experience it all anew. I first stumbled across Aurora on March 15, 2020, randomly playing the Nidarosdomen concert in the early days of covid. I was off work for what would end up being 2 months, and bored. I still remember the chills I felt on the first song when she let out the first line _"there wAAAAAs a boy.....a very strange en..chan..ted boy...."_
I immediately knew this was something *_very_* special. 1 hour later...I was demolished, a puddle; a changed person...a different kind of human. 3 years later....and I can honestly say Aurora is my favorite human being on this planet who isn't my parents or siblings. Her music and her _humanity_ has had such a profound impact on my life. She's far more than just some cool singer for me. The wisdom and empathy and inspiration she's given me is priceless. The gratitude I feel for her existence is pretty bananas tbh lol...

    • @avedic
      @avedic ปีที่แล้ว +1

lol....that actually reminds me. Just a few days ago I was wearing my Aurora shirt at the used bookstore I work at. It's not official merch...it's some cool design I got off Etsy and I love it. Anyway, this customer I was ringing up casually said, _"I like your shirt! You're a fan?"_ And it took all my focus and discipline to respond with a short and sweet, _"Yep! Big fan....big fan."_ I should have followed that up by saying, _"And if I actually went into detail as to how big of a fan I actually am....it would come across as borderline problematic. You know how some people feel about Jesus? Well....."_
But hey, at least I'm self aware in my obsession. That counts for something...? ;P

Thank you for sharing your story about the play. It sounds very similar to this song but from the other person's point of view. I believe Aurora wrote it after reading a news story about a local man whose wife had a terminal illness. He killed her as she was suffering so much and he didn't want her to go through the continued pain. Whenever I watch this performance and see her eyes, it personally feels to me like she's reliving a past life, the performance is so strong and visceral.

Aurora is an Artist that transcends the ability to fully and correctly describe....
I am a 50 year old 70's Hard Rock and 80's Heavy and Thrash Metal dude....
I came across Aurora here on TH-cam and I must say, I've heard "many" great vocalists and artists, but she really has got something that is beyond description. I feel it in my soul, my body, my mind......so, in order not to "trivialize" this Woodland Creature, all I can suggest is to listen to more. She has a wide variety of songs.
One thing I can say with confidence, is that Aurora has an uncanny ability to take one of her studio songs and every time she recreates it "live and onstage", she literally "recreates it". It is the same, but completely different. She seems to do this with many of her songs. Each performance of the one song is wonderful and unique unto itself.
So "LIVE" performances 'imo', like this one, are much better than the official video/studio versions. Once again, this is just my opinion and her studio songs are great too! Funny enough, there are certain songs that I do prefer the official video version of.....
Ok...."Lastly", let's get into something truly transcendent. Her live performance "Live in Nidarosdamen" (spell check that) is extremely special!
It's live in a very large and old cathedral. There is a small audience in attendance and she performs her songs with a symphony and an all male choir. "ANY" song off of that is great......any.....but I suggest first "Eyes of a Child" and "It Happened Quiet".......

AURORA, is a Norwegian singer and songwriter.(From the same country as Angelina Jordan). Among artists and in the music industry the Norwegian singer AURORA is synonymous with quality, and she can fill a record with masterpieces time and time again. Many others are glad they manage one hit. Billie Eilish said in an interview that it was AURORA that made her become an artist and were inspired after listen to Aurora. She is a true genius artist who does not make plastic / bikini music, but is true to real creative art.

i've watched almost every reaction to Aurora, especially this particular performance (which is my favorite and I feel a fantastic introduction to Aurora), and this is by far my favorite reaction to her. I look forward to seeing more of your reaction videos, and the play you wrote would be one that I would go see...i teared up as you told us about the plot.
I believe this song was inspired by a story Aurora heard of a man killing his girlfriend, who was terminally ill. She explores death a lot in her lyrics. she said one time in an interview on Eurovision that she finds it fascinating how we are very aware we will die, but can continue to go on living and not always think about it. One particular song that has a personal connection for her when it comes to death is The Little Boy in the Grass, where she lost a friend in the July 22 terrorist massacre of children at a youth camp on Utoya Island in Norway. She performed it live in her Nidarosdomen concert.
You won't be disappointed by any of her songs, and I recommend choosing live versions (although her videos are beautiful and well done)...however watch the video for "The Seed" over it live...it's fantastic and really helps communicate her message. Wear some really good headphones and turn it up because her love of metal music really shines in the chorus! Her "Queendom" video is super cool as well.
Welcome to the Warriors and Weirdos world of Aurora!

That was one of her only songs from not just her life. Watch live performance of i went too far. She was just a young girl when she wrote it. Her feelings about things even writing at 9 years old are so strong. Yes thats her accent, her voice. Her sister makes her clothing with her. The other sister chooses the mild make up.
Funky unique fun materials she shops and feels and they buy the cloth. Her sister is amazing at sketching clothing ideas from what Aurora wants. My favorite thing is that she does TikTok small bits. Some talking. Some singing. She plays piano too. Her voice is so light and sweet. Maybe she is an Angel. They took her on a 2 year tour. In interviews. Each language she learned. All the countries that wanted her to go she went. To help people of this world. She was something my husband listened too. I didn’t like a couple songs he played. Then i saw her live on you tube and chatting on TikTok. She's funny. Brilliant too. I saw her doing this traveling to places not all about her. She said she didn't fit in at school. She wanted too badly. She was willing to do anything to get in the popular girl click. But she finally realized she couldn't be like them. That she let them go and was happier. Then she took a test that everyone took. She had a very high score. Thinking it would be impressive. Instead they laughed at her. It was an IQ test. She said she didn't see what was funny. It made no sense. Poor girl. She likes the woods more than anything. That is her happy place. She's a wild child, adult. Her songs, the music, the way the music videos and stages are a lot of her ideas . The "Cure for me" masks were all painted by her. I am not religious, but, she makes me feel like God made her for us all. Ok i sound crazy now. Lol. Listen and watch her live.

I discovered Aurora almost a year ago myself and was hooked!. Daily discovering all that I could find. Before Covid, live music and theater events were my favorite activities. Since I have yet to return to pre-Covid life, I discovered watching reactions to her gives me a satisfaction and connection to fill that void. I am so glad you shared the play you had written and how this song resonates for you. I had a somewhat similar experience myself with her so I can imagine how it felt for you to watch her for the very first time and have her sing and perform a mirror artistic creation. I wrote a short story in college about a young girl who lived near a large forest who often enters to play and discover only to find that when she leaves the forest she never ends up at the same place she entered (physically and spiritually). If you ever watch any of Aurora’s interviews you will learn that she describes the same experience as she spent a lot of time in the forest as a child and returns to nature every chance she gets. I just LOVE watching others connect to her as I did and hope you continue to do so…. Because the 13 reactions you have done is only the tip of the Aurora iceberg 💕

Starting the Aurora experience with the Murder Song is one of those "in at the deep end" moments. For all its simplicity, it is a deep and powerful song with a dark subject. Coyote's intro below is great but I wanted to mention the other side of this theme - the song "It Happened Quiet". Aurora says this "may" be related to the Murder Song - the same theme viewed from a different angle, but she'd rather we be our own judges. If you do listen, choose the version at "the current"

There are some who clearly don't get Aurora. I don't mean just the message of her songs. They don't even understand that something magical comes from what she creates. You not only got the message of the song, but also the magic. It really makes me feel a little better about humanity when I see that. Excellent reaction. Thank you.

Aurora is just art, completely, performance wise and musically. Always love to see peoples reactions to her. She is mind blowing. We all try to find enough to say about her but there’s always more that’s still left, maybe it’s too spiritual for words and can only be felt, I don’t know. Apart from her other videos which are all fascinating I would love you to review Helgeven by Wardruna with Aurora. Thanks

I love the reaction more than the song ! When the music, the performance goes straight to your heart, and it feels like it's going to break, but at the same time, it's a lovely feeling ! I've been there, I recognice it, and I love it ! Aurora is genuine, you can tell after watching her just for a few seconds ! She's an artist expressing herself, not making music to be on the hit charts ! And for that I greatly respect her !

This is definitely one of her most emotional performances to watch. She’s an amazing live performer.
Some other performances I’d recommend: Through the Eyes of a Child live at Nidarosdomen, hauntingly beautiful concert in a cathedral.
And if you want something more upbeat her performance of Churchyard live at KEXP is really fun (though the lyrics are also quite dark).

Hi Dad, Thank you for a great reaction. I've watched some reactions to Aurora over the last six months and many get the same reaction as you, but I feel you catch what she's really expressing in this song. Namely, active euthanasia, so that the sufferer escapes her pain. I think you will find a lot of joy in her music and artistic expression.
Aurora is a Norwegian artist and like many other Norwegians closely connected to nature, which gives her and a unique expression and an expression that surprises many because it goes straight to the spinal cord of people. A quiet way of conveying messages, but all the more precise. Something that is rare in today's entertainment world.
If I'm allowed, I'd like recommend two other artists who are highly valued byAurora, - Ane Brun (Last breath) and Susanne Sundfør (When the lord). Great singers, great stories and great performers.

Happy to hear you started reacting to Aurora! She makes a lot of good songs, and my only suggestion is: PLEASE do her live songs from the Nidaros Cathedral if you can. She has a lot of good sings, but the sound from that particular performance is out of this world.

That performence always leaves me in tears and for some time i am totally wrecked. It's so strong that's just takes all my shields down leaving me as a ball of emotions that can barely take the power of the tale. As You said it is quite otherwordly.

I loved your reaction, the emotions on your face were so genuine. I would like to suggest you react to «Through the eyes Of a child» and/or «Lucky» from her concert in Nidarosdomen, the cathedral of my hometown Trondheim in Norway. The cathedral is the perfect “arena” for her. You can also find the entire concert on TH-cam
Her latest single “Cure for me” is completely different, funny and goofy at the same time, just like Aurora 😉

Aurora is one of my favorite artists and I'm talking about top 3. I've listened to her so much since I've discovered her years ago during my darkest days. She's amazing, both as an artist and as a person, her voice is ethereal and she can put into sounds and words what one cannot explain. I love her ! Nice to see you appreciate her too.
Also nice choice of Aerith's theme song in the back afterwards, way to make me emotional++ ahaha

Not sure if you'll see a comment on a two-year-old post... But in case... Discover do this evening through your Ronnie Radke video that you were first hearing him. Great reaction and interpretation and sharing. I knew I'd come back to Seymour and half of the clamps that you had also done this Aurora song which is another song that really hit me hard this year. Didn't disappoint you had the perfect reaction... For me at least. I see you've checked out Ren he is my other of the three that I've been obsessed with for the last few months. I have to come back as I've got to go to work tomorrow and I can't stay up anymore. Excited to see those plus I see many more artists that I have not listened to before. I am finding out some interesting things about these reaction videos. Once I find a channel the I relate to regarding music that I know I am much more likely to test out something else. Excited for the journey.

Articulate and spot on. Your are on the first step of a fantastic journey if you choose to follow the mesmerizing Aurora. There are more deep songs, some joyous smiling, dancing performance and some love songs and some great covers of other people's material. In all this variety she always shines as bright as the fabled lights that she is named for. As good as the crafted videos and filmed recording studio offerings are, the gems are in the live performances from this concert, the 2017 Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral) Christmas concert, the 2019 HAIK concert (a magical event staged in the forest where Aurora played in her childhood) and her various smaller gigs from around the world. Enjoy.
