When i left The narcissist I was with he kept trying to put me in jail. He reported me stealing my own things. I had to go to the police department 3 times for 3 different reasons. I started to play his game and he backed off.
My mother was a narcissist, although at the time I didn’t know that. I told her I was tired of her crap and was leaving until she would listen to me and take me seriously. She didn’t seem to notice for ten years. By then I had emotionally disengaged. I had a polite relationship with her for the last few years of her life. Such a waste.
Do I care what my sister thinks or says? No because I let her go! She gave it her best shot but it doesn’t matter , she sent her family it didn’t work. I am free.
What about when they discard you and you do not resist? You just walk away saying "good riddance" instead of begging as they expect you to do? I am curious because this is what happened to me. My ex had always bragged about women wanting him back years/decades after being dumped by him. I just left with 2 bags and my dog and never looked back.
I suspect the narc smears you or brags that you’re another one of many who still want him. My narc got really upset when I stopped begging during a discard. It was very telling and funny to me. When I begged, I was pathetic and when I stopped begging, I was a cold b*tch. Glad you got away. Sometimes it’s easier if you let them leave you and immediately go no contact.
They send flying monkeys to try and win you back and then when you tell the flying monkeys no the narcissist feels ashamed because then they can’t say it was them that didn’t want you. everyone will know that it’s YOU who doesn’t want them.
Mine tried hard hoovering, then smearing, then playing a victim. In reality, he was devaluing me regularly ,(almost 6y marriage), gaslighting, beating me (since last year), almost suffocated me during try of violent unsuccessful rape (after he told me very ugly humiliating words), threaten to murder me (has a gun in the house), and describing me morbid ways he will do torture and killing. I left. He's a victim. 😉

that's what I did. I immediately went no contact and never contacted him again. They smear you...HARD

Another way the narc learns that the relationship is over, is when the officer shows up and serves him/her with divorce papers.
