  • Hey Horse Lovers! Today I am heading off to a local pony auction right near my farm. I haven't ever been here before so it will be a new experience for us. Also, please note that if you ever want to buy a horse from auction I highly recommend bringing an experienced trainer, buyer, or knowledgeable friend along for the ride. ANYWAYS, check out how I go about looking over horses at this small sale. Enjoy the ride!

I'm commenting almost a year later, and I *still* want to stand up and yell at that kid. Yanking Marshmallow around like that didn't show him to any better advantage. Though considering he's feisty, it did show that he's remarkably patient, in that he didn't kick her into the middle of next week, or snake his head around and bite. I hope he got a good owner.

That little girl yanking the pony’s mouth is giving me the shivers! 😢 gotta love how parents teach kids so young how to rough handle all the animals. Makes me appreciate your channel more when I see you treating your herd with so much love, care, and consideration ❤❤❤

I was shocked by the way those kids treated the ponies and donkeys at the auction.
I've been following the High Desert Homestead TH-cam channel where Moses has been training a donkey, Prince Jack, to drive.
Moses has amazing horsemanship skills and those kids could do with watching him. Anyway, lovely ponies and donkeys at the auction. Thanks for the vid.

Yeah it’s crazy, and I don’t agree with that either! Unfortunately that’s a somewhat “normal” thing to see at some auctions unfortunately.

    • @jhorvers
      @jhorvers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

The first thing I thought watching this auction was "they should teach those kids to treat the animals with respect".. All that yanking, pushing and pulling was horrible... If they do this with a crowd watching... What would they do when they are "alone". This does not proof that an animal is "easy".. This only shows that they don't no how to deal with them in a normal way..

Exactly! They thought they were being cute but in fact,m they were cruel, smart ass kids whose parents haven’t taught them how to treat a horse. I’m surprised no one yelled out at them. If they are part of that auction each time I would never return.

    • @mollygriffith5678

They are “plow”reining. That might mean that the ponies are not as well trained as could be or that they might be acting out a little in the ring so plow reining is better control. Best one was the big horse. Seemed well mannered, calm, and well broke.

Yoo I'm on my period and seeing those tiny horses made me remember a conversation I had with a coworker who found out I used to have horses. I'm sitting here sobbing at 7:30am remembering this story of when my coworker was 43 and she went to her first horse show. There was a girl around 12 who was showing a mini horse. My coworker thought mini horses were baby horses and had an argument with this random 12-year-old girl because she didn't believe the horse was nine years old. When the girl's dad stepped in, he figured out the situation and explained to my adult coworker and his young daughter that "the horse is small but it is not a baby, it is a full grown adult". The rest of the show, anytime the girl made eye contact with my coworker she would burst out laughing. My coworker was in her mid-50s when we worked together and she told me she thinks about that day a couple times a week.

As someone who works at livestock auctions and rides horses in the sale arena I can say that I don’t agree with the way some of those kids were treating those ponies and donkeys when I go in my motive is to show off the horse with good horsemanship and I don’t use spurs unless it is a horse I have to and I don’t kick them to death I just lightly tap or put a little pressure and smooch. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely energy and experience with us. ❤️
Both my fiancé and I really enjoy watching your vids. They are the most informative and attentive out of any other horse channels we have come across. 🥰
I was wondering, if possible, In your next auction vid, could you please show us more up close and in depth things to look for?
Compared to the horse you decide to home and a horse that you would think looks great but reasons why you wouldn’t home them.
(Maybe two vids. Post the auction bid first so you don’t give away who you home. But a second video after with more in-depth information in what you are checking over, what you like, what you don’t like, what os a concern, what looks promising.) I know you do these things in your vids. But it would be interesting to see a more in-depth comparison. ❤️
I don’t think everyone should go going out to get their first horse at an auction, but it’s definitely a great place to compare between many horses at once 🥰
I hope your channel continues to grow and my fiancé and I are both very excited to see where your channel goes from here ✨❤️🦄

Hi thank you so much! I will always post the auction bid last since that’s the true order of how it all goes. I do give pretty detailed information on what to look for at auctions. You also have to understand a lot of people are looking at the horses and I can’t always film for an extended period of time, it’s kind of in and out especially at larger sales. Plus,
sometimes I only have a few minutes to a couple hours to check out the horses. I also do want to keep some details and things private for various reasons. If I just go around to each auction ripping apart horses it’s not really a good vibe, however, pointing out concerns and certain issues here and there makes more sense. That’s why I make these vids to not only share my stories and experience but also educate. Also, these things are in general, nothing is confirmed until I bring the horses to my professional team (vet, farrier, chiro etc) they are at a glance thoughts. I do usually note which horses I pass on (and why) and which ones I think will be a good fit. For example I pointed out age, hooves, foundering, size, training, pricing as to reasons why I didn’t get any of these horses. Also, I only had 20 min to look at them and it was a little crowded for how small it was haha! But when I go to auctions and have more time I’ll definitely try. It’s just hard to give to a lot of detail on each horse considering the circumstances (crowded, busy, limited time) etc :).

Omg I hated how they were yanking and pulling on those mules and donkeys! And poor marshmallow, that girl in the pink kept pulling so hard on the ponies. And the other girl trying to stand up?! That’s very dangerous, and I don’t think those kids knew what they were doing. Besides that, thank you for showing this to us! I would probably get that bay horse near the end. Have a great day!❤🎉

I was married to a veterinarian. We met taking English riding lessons in college. Eventually we each had a nice horse. I was very lucky that my horse was middle aged but healthy, and I didn't have to pay for vet expenses, being married to one. I only found out after the divorce how expensive it would have been if City Slicker had been ill. Wow, was I lucky.
