I love this movie. It's not been my experience however that religions accept people the way they are. Nothing further from the truth. I've never been a particularly religious or spiritual person but I have loved this movie for 30 years, since I saw it as a boy of 11 or 12. And every scene involving the choir, particularly Salve Regina and this one, are among my favorite movie singing sequences. And I'm moved almost to the point of crying every time I watch.

You know the real miracle of Sister Act is that a small choir of about 12 could project so hard across such a massive space with absolutely no sound system. 😂

But in reality, if a group of older women was singing in a vaulted ceiling church, with nothing to amplify their sound, they wouldn't reach past the 12th pew, let alone out into the neighborhood. I doubt an older church that is trying to raise money for a new roof has money for a wireless sound system.
I still adore this movie. When they first start singing Ave Maria, and finish the "traditional" version, and start on the up tempo version, that's my fav moment in the movie.
To be honest, I always get goosebumps at Sister Mary Robert's first solo. I know it's not the actress's real voice, but I don't care - it's beautiful and amazing in-universe, and that's all that matters to me. 😊

I wish all churches were packed out like this. You cannot overvalue the positive contribution the churches make to our communities. Ask any mother who attends your local church mother and baby groups. Being a new mother can be very stressful and challenging and these groups help a great deal. I used to live with a born-again Christian. He used to work 8am to 4pm, He'd be home for 5pm. He'd then get a bite to eat and be in bed for 8pm. He'd wake up at 3am to watch the God channel on satellite TV until 7am when the work bus would pick him up. At weekends he'd go and spread the word of God Laugh all you want but after he left to go back to South Africa a bunch of parents turned up at our door. This guy had gone around getting teenagers who were doing drugs, gangs, prostitution, knives, etc and getting them to give up and go to church to volunteer. During the covid lockdown, these very same people who were criminals were doing deliveries to the elderly and sick. We miss him very much!
This is one of my favorite parts from one of my favorite movies. I have so many good memories of watching this movie with my mom and it brings me to tears of happiness when I see this movie.
It's funny, I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, but my mother loved this movie, and I watched it so much as I was growing up. I think she must have had a bit of a crisis of faith, because she let me watch this more than "someone in the faith" should.

Movies these days just don't have the songs like this that makes the movie memorable. Every now and then I find myself revisiting this movie, not watching random scenes but specifically these songs. Very special and even as a child when I first watched this movie, the songs stood out to me and now even more as an adult.

What i love about sister act is that it bridges the gaps between dominations. In the end, no matter what domination you are. We are all Christians. People dont realize that the movie was bridging the gaps between Baptist and Catholicism. I grew up as a pastelic christian. But a lot of black Christians during this time during the day were Baptist. I love this movie cause it put Baptist Christianity mixed and catholic Christianity. some people will never get that

It's funny, I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, but my mother loved this movie, and I watched it so much as I was growing up. I think she must have had a bit of a crisis of faith, because she let me watch this more than "someone in the faith" should.

Movies these days just don't have the songs like this that makes the movie memorable. Every now and then I find myself revisiting this movie, not watching random scenes but specifically these songs. Very special and even as a child when I first watched this movie, the songs stood out to me and now even more as an adult.

What i love about sister act is that it bridges the gaps between dominations. In the end, no matter what domination you are. We are all Christians. People dont realize that the movie was bridging the gaps between Baptist and Catholicism. I grew up as a pastelic christian. But a lot of black Christians during this time during the day were Baptist. I love this movie cause it put Baptist Christianity mixed and catholic Christianity. some people will never get that

I know next to the music it isn't as a big a deal... but maaaajor props to them for letting Whoopi have her natural hair at a time when it was expected for black actresses to straighten and flatten their hair.

I don't speak English, I used a translator, but this movie is one that I remember a lot from my childhood, and even though I was very young (about 11 years old) I liked it a lot, the songs, the story, even today that I'm 40 years old, I keep watching this film and it still gives me a lot of joy to see it.
