  • New 2XKO gameplay (project L) is releasing more every week building a lot of hype for the fighting game community (FGC). A lot of people believe 2XKO will arguably change the entire fighting game community and genre forever.. but why? This is the story of how everything that fighting game players know and love about the genre will change forever after the release of 2XKO. With the 2XKO Beta releasing later this year in 2024, and the full release in 2025.. only time will tell. Hopefully we get a new 2XKO trailer soon! The current 2xko roster is ahri, illaoi, jinx, yasuo and more!

fighting games will always be niche, not to mention that 2XKO is a tag team game which is even more niche especially for casual players (just look at MK1 right now). For those reasons i dont think 2XKO will reach Valorant or LoL numbers, not even remotely close.

I do agree that 2XKO will be successful and have an impact on the FGC, but I feel that a good number of details in the vid are off the mark.
From what we seen of the fuse system, it's not going to be entirely changing how one plays the game, the closest is handshake tag.
I do not believe the game is going for a more broad audience, the only indication of that is the fact that there are no special inputs in the game, and only one button specials. The Cannon brothers, the lead developers of 2X, have mentioned this in a roundabout way. "We're not trying to make a game where new players can beat the pros, it's about unlocking the fun at all skill levels". Capcom tried to do this years ago when they were making SFV, but the community had a negative response to this, so much so that years later the Cannon's are making an effort to avoid this, to the point that they are willing to say it clear as day.
A 2v2 game in the style of MvC, Skullgirls, and BBxT are not the easiest to get into, and failing to even mention these games feels like missed opportunity. It's like if someone was describing Valorant and never mentioned CSGO.
I understand your sentiment, and ultimately agree about 2X's impact on the greater FGC, in terms of monetization at the very least, but overall the vid is missing the mark. It's like you looked at all the buzz around the game instead of looking into the game, the FGC, and the industry as a whole.

I am incredibly excited to play more of this game. Playing it at Evo made the wait agonizing. I don't think it's going to shake up the genre as much as you think though. Things will definitely change in some capacity if it's successful, but a lot of what it's doing, other FGs have done in the past.
Free to play, duos, and its netcode are probably the three biggest things it has going for it. F2p and duos have been done in other games like Killer Instinct and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising while duos have been in MK9, DragonBall Fighterz and Street Fighter X Tekken and they didn't really influence other games in genre in any significant way. I think 2XKO's influence on the FGC and the genre as a whole will come down to how well it does from a sales pov (obviously) and how much of a playerbase it can retain after the honeymoon phase ends. That last part is probably the biggest factor.
Now I await the eventual Vi reveal, cross my fingers that Lee Sin, Talon, Samira, and Fiora follow, and the at home playtests start sooner than later.

saying that LoL has a larger playerbase than sf6 is such a crazy comparison. 2 completely different games and genres where one is an ongoing single entry and another has it's player base still split between multiple entries.

It's not? In the past month alone, League had 128M monthly active players, 1.3M online at once in the past hour, do you seriously think SF franchise in its entirety has anything remotely close to that? Even if only a tenth of that amount actually sticks to the game (undoubtedly going to be more) SF6 would still pale in comparison.

@@okjuan4037 lmaoooo. You brought up the one genre with possibly the smallest playerbase, the one that requires most of its players to spend money to keep it afloat.
The problem with LoR was they gave all their cards for free, it was so free to play that they even had a limit to how much money you can spend on cards, something the community had to beg them to remove.
And it's not even a problem with the playerbase, at the time of the announcement, it had over 200K ranked accounts.
They didn't completely halt development of that game, they just focused entirely on PVE, the content 80% of its playerbase exclusively plays, and they still have a year's worth of planned content for PVP.

It's quite different the game is too player friendly, I can't believe I'm using this as a negative, that it can't support itself because of giving every cards for free and limits it's players to buy cards with irl money. Skins is good and all but you'll only buy it one time and it's pretty cheap. That's the reason why it's on life support right now but even then they didn't shut down the game but just slowed it down waiting for an opportunity.

Alright.... I did not expect you to have just 1k Subs. Your editing is VERY impressive for your size. I am actually unsure why Returnytdislike shows a nearly 50-50 like dislike ratio.
I very much enjoyed basically every part of that video, and did not notice any kind of false statements in there. (For example that street fighter player number is accurate, despite some comments saying otherwise) Your comparisons with player numbers... (while i have to admit, comparing SF to LoL numbers does obviously not make much sense) shows the scale difference pretty well.
But i noticed a couple of things while watching the video, that bothered me a bit:
    1. Your video seems not 16:9. Idk why, but some parts are cut off.
    2. The CRT style effect you use extensively -while stylish and pretty neat- hinders readability quite heavily. I actually got a bit of eye strain, trying to read some of the text at 5:33. Also it blurrs your Video a bit and makes it look (at least to me) lower resolution (Because bitrate suffers).
    3. While i am not affected by it, it might be a good idea to put a Epilepsy warning at the beginning, since some of your transitions are quite flashy
I hope this criticism can help you out a bit, since if you keep making videos of this Quality, i forsee a very succesful future for your channel. You earned ur Sub.

I don't understand how riot approved a tag fighter for its first ever fighting game. I personally dislike tag games, and I'm not a minority in the FGC, especially if it's a game you wanna play regularly. I dont think it will change fighting games. I mean yeah its free, but I think the balancing of the game is the hard part. If a game doesnt feel balanced thats when people start to drop out. Tekken Revolution was free, people were happy with it but it didn't change much. Only thing I can see carry this game is pretty much the fanbase. But if its got terrible balancing then no. However it does have potential, and I am still somewhat interested. If they listen to the community they could patch the game as they go and it is successful. I generally think fighting games do not do that well these days. With the other genre of games available. Some people want to play strategies, some want to play skill.

You hit the nail on the head of why the game is set up for success and expanding the FGC. I think the current costly system doesnt work and makes it impossible to get friends into it if they aren't already old school fighting game fans. Plus, its no secret how difficult it is to bring players into a $60 game that really relies on you WANTING to climb a steep learning curve, with only so much content to enjoy. The exciting part is competing and playing with friends with cool characters and fun visuals, this may finally offer that to everyone and expand the scene.

All i can say is, eyes on this game, whether it succedes or fails is going to be important for the future of the fgc

  • @NrettG
    @NrettG หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I feel your missing the bigger picture with this. Yes the game will succeed but sales don't equal to impact on the FGC. MK is considered the highest selling fighting game series out there yet at majors like EVO you won't see it make it to sunday a majority of the time. Instead you'll have games like Tekken, Street Fighter, and Guilty Gear. A majority of the time Street Fighter is held as the last game of the night because it always reaches the most entrants. Yet in Evo 2022, Street Fighter V didn't get that honor and instead lost the final game spot to Guilty Gear Strive, a game that has only sold 2.5 million copies compared to a game that has sold 7.4 million and coming back to mortal kombat where MK11 has sold 15 million copies.
2XKO will sell like crazy but how many of those playing the game will show up to a local tournament as well? For street fighter 6 the game sold 3 million copies in 7 months yet Evo only had 7,061 players for SF6 (3 months post launch). I don't think it's going to create that big of an impact, at the very least it will turn some players who tried out 2XKO in wanting to try other fighting games and becoming hooked. The same way that Super Smash Bros did where everyone mostly played that game, wanted to see what else is there, then never left the scene.

    • @Benji567891

A lot of the top players will swap to this game, it will have a huge knock on effect on the FGC, the prize pools and team sponserships riot will put behind this will be huge, look at how big league and valorant are as an Esport, that's the backing this game will have. And a lot of people that play league will absolutely try this game, look at things like TFT using the league of legends brand, that has a huugeee playerbase now as well.

    • @NrettG
      @NrettG 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@Benji567891 You mean a lot of top players will try this game. Much like everyone did with SF6 to try the game out and get the million a bunch of top players then went back to their own game after that trying period. (Even SonicFox, a well known high level player, played GGST to a grand finals at Evo Online then never touched the game again afterwards).
But my point still stands, this game will sell like crazy which in turn Riot will have all the backing to support the game. But how many of them will show up to a local or a big tournament to play the game still? If anything, this would force more online play as Riot doesn't do offline majors that often and instead invites teams through online matches.
One last point I want to make as well, everything that 2XKO and that Riot is looking to introduce to the scene has already been done. F2P (GBVSR, DOA5:LR), Big Prize Pool (Capcom Cup), No motion inputs (DNF Duel, SF6 Modern). The biggest and main appeal that this game has riding for it is that 2v2 mode which I myself am very excited for and hope that more games pick up that mode in the future. But as it stands, 2XKO is behind the competition and now have to put in new features like replays from UNI2 and Tekken 8 where they tell you how to counter a move in order to match the growing standard we just now received.

Fighting games are nich genre, and I 2xko might just be kusoge. We won't know until it comes out, but if you make fighting games too "accessable" you run the risk of making something so "easy" that it becomes degenerate and weaker players won't been able to enjoy since it'll be too easy to put together airtight offense.

To be honest I really hope this pushes more games to follow the game as a service model, I despise season passes

16 characters starting roster? Not looking good. Also game is 1v1, 2v2 is optional mode

Pretty sure it's not even confirm how much they're adding to the starting roster. But that is quite normal for fighting games; 16 might be right. Also need to consider how many new characters they'll add per year tho. I know for sure they aren't making 2XKO 2 like any other fighting game series. They'll continue to keep updating the existing 2XKO just like league of legends. In long term that's extremely good for the roster that's worth considering.

2XKO is not a 2v2 game, it is a 1v1 tag fighter. also it is better for it to not be a team game anyway because of the crazy toxicity possible with teammates blaming one another

People claimed Legends of Runeterra was Hearthstone killer or MTG killer. It's on its route to shutdown with them "refocusing" on PvE content.

Get what you're saying but that's an card game genre. The fighting game genre have many cons to began with like the ridiculous price tag and some net codes being terrible. The card game genre doesn't have as big of an issue that fighting game genre has. Riot will take advantage of that. New card games is not easy to win over people that already pour in many years into their favorite card games already. Yes; you could say that people pour in a lot of years into the fighting games they love but it's the player base that always seems to dwindle that's the problem that will eventually forces them to try other fighting games if they really want to play with actual players. Also that's like the only online game that wasn't successful from Riot. You should also consider TFT being the best auto chess and valorant being successful; not just base on one and only failed game.

The 2v2 mechanic is probably the biggest game-changer, for some reason no one else has touched the idea of this. dbfz dabbled but it's not a big part of their online functionality. multiversus of course has it, but it's a platform fighter with a different playerbase.

It has been done many times, but it is super hard to implement correctly. From a technical point, it needs a perfect connection. From a gameplay perspective, it needs a perfect, instantaneous and super easy way to coordinate, even better than voice signals. I think it can be done, but I don't think it will ever be really tight. Most pro players will prefer the solo experience.

@@ardidsonriente2223 eh, it's not like it requires some pinnacle of technology. we got rollback, no one's attempted to try it with 3+ players but it's not like it's different from a rollback solution with 2 players. anyway the downside of rollback with 3+ players is it being p2p. 2xko is using server-based rollback which basically makes the netcode similar to most fighting games out rn. you don't have to worry about connection to 3 other players, only connection to the server.
