This was my fav band in highschool. I could play all of their songs on guitar AND bass, and lemme tell you Chiodos bass HITS. Recently tapped back into them when I caught my friend listening to hxc. I said hol up we need to bump this lmao. Been on repeat the last week nonstop, such carefree fun music. Just might be my fav band again, all of the lyrics came right back to me. Even the tracks I forgot I loved like teeth the size of piano keys... remembered every single word like I listened to it yesterday, when it's closer to a decade at least. I haven't made it to the illuminaudio segment but I'll say its an album I enjoy today, but didn't back when. It may not be my favorite but it's a fantastic listen from start to finish. I'd take it over many other albums today, but in all honesty the memories I made with Craig's Chiodos tend to persuade my tastes. Rock on y'all regardless, no matter your fav album or vocalist. I didnt know much of the drama going on between Craig and the band but i got to spend about 20 minutes hanging out with him at Warped Tour and the dude was so fuckin chill. I gave him props a bit about his set, which i had enjoyed thoroughly, and then we talked about some of the other bands on the tour and who he enjoyed listening to. What was cool was that he engaged me in this conversation it wasnt an interview of me just asking questions and him trying to dip, he asked me what songs i liked from Chiodos, he asked me about how i like warped tour and who my favorite bands were. It was a real conversation between two people, not a celebrity and a fan. And out of dozens of band members ive met in my concert going career, only a handful have been willing to just have a normal conversation with their fans. I have a picture with him we took at the end of this interaction, and i will always cherish that picture and the conversation i had with him.

Regarding Devil and Thomas Erak. I met the dude at a show and straight up asked him what was the deal with chiodos. He said all the crazy stuff he did on the record was muted or barely there due to craig owens. Im sure hes told others but i heard it in an angry drunken rage but I agree, he was underutilized.
"Looking For a Tornado" is one of the best songs Chiodos has put out and it just goes to show that if they'd taken their time with the record and really sat down and decided on an overall sound it could have been as good as BPB. It was tonally all over the place and parts of it are downright grating, musically and vocally.
Gotta say that the chaos added to the power of the album. It was an album of turbulence and emotional pain, and that song is the height of this concept...it hits like a nuke.
My cousins band A Second Too Late(Bullets Over Broadway) used to play shows with Chiodos and were cool with them. Never got to share a show with them myself but the scene was friggin amazing back then. Local shows and sweaty venues. Fordirelifesake used to play with Black Dahlia Murder back then. What a time.
One of the best bands of all time in the scene, no questions asked. Them, and Underoath are untouchable. Anyone else I'm missing? Those two are the reigning champs in my book.
Thanks so much for this video! It's nice to see someone talk about Chiodos seriously when it comes to their talent and their experimental music. It's truly amazing what they did and I wish they could have come back when they made Devil and done something much more amazing. I'm not mad about that album tho cuz they went on tour and came to my city and it's the only time I ever got to see them live. I also got a VIP ticket and there were 10 VIP people (small town) and we got an acoustic show and got to meet the band it was the best time of my life lol. But I truly admired their talents and still love listening to Alls Well That Ends Well and Bone Palace Ballet even tho all my friends laugh at me and call them "Cheetos".
I still have my pair of Chiodos shorts from warped tour circa ~2005 and wear them often. The signature “C” wore off in early years, but it still says “I’d hit that” on the back. Completely inappropriate for public lol. They are indoor shorts now
I barely got on my computer when I saw that you posted a new video, so I immediately pressed play. Great Video man, always love your content. Also you mentioned Dance Gavin Dance in the beginning, I hope you can make a video them someday, since them having a very interesting history as band would probably be an understatement.
This is so well researched! Great work. Please do more of these. Edit: just finished. I love that your stand-outs are mine. Looking for a Tornado my stand out for Devil. It’s wildly underrated
I see Illuminaudio without a doubt as their best album. I've always been a death metal guy and only discovered Chiodos in 2016 so i didnt have any nostalgia for them. So Illuminaudio and Devil is what got me into the band. To my ears it was completely new and something I never really thought I would like but it was something I couldn't stop listening too. I think it's a shame that's all I really got from them cause to me Illuminaudio and Devil are special... The older albums I've never really been able to get into besides a couple songs from Bone Palace. When I think about Chiodos I think of those two albums. So yeah... I think they had something really cool that feels ended way too soon.
bone palace is one of my favorite albums, i’ve given all their stuff a few fair shots but that one is head and shoulders above the rest to me. it’s just perfect front to back, also has one of the best album covers, i want that shit on my wall lol
Chiodos is my favorite band but honestly its only Alls Well That Ends Well. Thank you so much for making a video on this it brought back some of the best memories of my concert era 🫶
I’m glad you gave Illuminaudio some love here, it’s arguably their most solid album. One thing I wish you went in on more is how Craig got reintroduced into the band, I remember reading an interview with Bolmer and apparently the band didn’t even tell him that he was out. He learned Craig was back when the rest of us did.
Saw craig in philly a few months ago and got to ask some questions. He wishes to bring the band back but no one else wants to continue:/ that's okay though cause he's killing it now and he's back back so happy even though it's not my shit. I have a chiodos tattoo and they'll always be my favorite love them forever❤
Yo man, hoping you find this comment. Anyways I wanted to let you know about another concept album in case you’re curious. It’s an self release by Staind called Tormented. I won’t spoil anything, just check out the hidden track if you are curious. Also great vids, loving the content!
I think my favorite thing about being alive during the ever changing eras of band members was before Craig left there was the unreleased recorded song “Thermacare”. After Craig left, he took the lyrics to D.R.U.G.S. And they released “The only thing you talk about”, as he owned the rights to the lyrics. Chiodos would later release “Stratovolcano mouth”on Illuminaudio which was the same instrumentation/composition as “Thermacare”, with different lyrics. Insane time to witness.
I wish this video went into this more, the simultaneous release of Illuminaudio and D.R.U.G.S. was a very interesting time to be a fan. That story in particular would’ve been cool to hear more about.
THE BEST ERA IN MUSIC EVER. so many incredible legendary bands and musicians with unique sounds came from this time period and i dont think there has been anything like it since.
I actually never actually hard any of their music from what I remember, it's been a long time but I remember them being VERY popular back when I was in middle-school/high school. I remember a lot of the Emo kids wearing their shirts so even though I never actually heard their music, they still bring a sense of nostalgia for me remembering how popular they were amongst a lot of teens back in the early-mid 2000s. I didn't really immerse myself into Post-Hardcore when I was in high school outside of The Used, Thursday, Refused, and Underoath and that was only because I heard their singles on the FUSE channel way back in the day. I'm surprised that I never got around to hearing any of their music seeing how popular they were back in the 2000s. Though maybe I did but didn't realize it because admittedly, I wasn't all that into Post-Hardcore because I was one of the people who did feel that the whiny, somewhat nasally vocal style could get a bit grating on my ears lol But I actually was enjoying the more neoclassical influenced stuff from the snippets you shared so I'll definitely be giving that more of a look. Anyway, awesome retrospective!
Craig Owens basically had the voice of an angel in Alls Well That Ends Well, you could really feel his raw emotion when he sang. Bone Palace Buffet was nice also but much softer if I remember correctly. I will have to check out Devil soon because I had no idea it even existed till I watched this video. 😮
Got to see them live in grand rapids Michigan with Tony Danza tap dance extravaganza, and It Dies Today ❤️ the closest experience I can compare it to was when I was Sleep Token, also in Michigan 😌
What a great synopsis and history of Chiodos. I’ve been a fan since the first “All Nereids Beware” music video came out when Craig was wearing a shirt way too small. Growing up, I was also a fall of Troy fan. When Thomas joined Chiodos and Devil was produced, I was incredibly disappointed. They missed a chance to utilize some of the heavier tracks Thomas wrote (see: The Holloway Tape) and then guitar playing (see: I just got this symphony goin) I envisioned a world with them both singing, and that didn’t happen. What my head imagined they would write and what they wrote were two different things. Erak joining Chiodos should’ve been pivotal and it ended up being the exact opposite
"For 2010, this was brand new territory for the post-hardcore genre" - I have to strongly disagree there. While "Notes in Constellations" does have exactly the vibe you are describing, it had already been done by Circa Survive a whole 5 years earlier. Same two-guitar stereo delay sound, same half-tempo drum groove, same vocal style (high range, but semi-soft with steep interval jumps) and same lightly distorted bass sound - it's straight up the recipe for Circa Survive!
Haha i remember when sky eats airplane came out they added me on myspace and had 2 demo songs i was blown away because it sounded fresh to me with all the synths

Craig Owens voice is just my taste. Reminds me of Vic Fuentes from Pierce the Veil, high pitch voice that makes you feel emotion and killer screamo.
@@wiggy.el.chigon what song ?
@puccan479 oh shit replied to the wrong comment omg. I'm high my bad
@@wiggy.el.chigon 😂
This band captures the essence of that 04-10 emo feeling that can never be recaptured.
Man I miss being 19/20 and playing shows every weekend.
I still have my pair of Chiodos shorts from warped tour circa ~2005 and wear them often. The signature “C” wore off in early years, but it still says “I’d hit that” on the back. Completely inappropriate for public lol. They are indoor shorts now
absolutely amazing live, so glad i got to see them as a teenager
saw them in 2014 as a teen. Blew my mind.
I barely got on my computer when I saw that you posted a new video, so I immediately pressed play. Great Video man, always love your content. Also you mentioned Dance Gavin Dance in the beginning, I hope you can make a video them someday, since them having a very interesting history as band would probably be an understatement.
Each singer era could honestly have their own video lol
This is so well researched! Great work. Please do more of these.
Edit: just finished. I love that your stand-outs are mine. Looking for a Tornado my stand out for Devil. It’s wildly underrated
More to come!
@@graymads color me subscribed 🙌🏼
I will not tolerate Devil slander
I’m glad you gave Illuminaudio some love here, it’s arguably their most solid album. One thing I wish you went in on more is how Craig got reintroduced into the band, I remember reading an interview with Bolmer and apparently the band didn’t even tell him that he was out. He learned Craig was back when the rest of us did.
What about a video of the history of Underoath I think it’s also a very important band for the genre
Plan on covering them at some point :)
illuminaudio is still my favorite album by them.
Saw craig in philly a few months ago and got to ask some questions. He wishes to bring the band back but no one else wants to continue:/ that's okay though cause he's killing it now and he's back back so happy even though it's not my shit. I have a chiodos tattoo and they'll always be my favorite love them forever❤
bone palace ballet my beloved 💖
absolutely my fav album start to finish from chiodos
These are so good! I'd love to see you do one on PMToday / Modeling
Illuminaudio is the only one of these I go back to. It’s aged the best and still slaps.
Oof I’m old enough to have been at that Taste of Chaos tour in the intro D;
Yo man, hoping you find this comment. Anyways I wanted to let you know about another concept album in case you’re curious. It’s an self release by Staind called Tormented. I won’t spoil anything, just check out the hidden track if you are curious. Also great vids, loving the content!
I saw Craig at the DRUG show. Dude was amazing, and it was amazing getting to chat with him for a moment.
THE BEST ERA IN MUSIC EVER.
so many incredible legendary bands and musicians with unique sounds came from this time period and i dont think there has been anything like it since.
holy shit i didnt even know chiodos made an album after craig left.
Loved this. Do you know the band Catherine? Dude, if you can, please do one of these for that band. They were so good and so underrated.
glad you liked it!, I'll look into them
sad I really loved Illuminaudio and Brandon. Devil didnt do it for me but I feel that DRUGS's Albums are a lot similar to Illum, than Devil?
BPB will probably always be in my top 3 fav albums
All nereids beware was my favorite song of theirs 😍
Got to see them live in grand rapids Michigan with Tony Danza tap dance extravaganza, and It Dies Today ❤️ the closest experience I can compare it to was when I was Sleep Token, also in Michigan 😌
And DEVIL is my favorite album 😤😤 and I’ve been a fan since 2005
The album actually changed people's lives. I'm from Michigan and this was so big, and defined a culture and an era.
They missed a chance to utilize some of the heavier tracks Thomas wrote (see: The Holloway Tape) and then guitar playing (see: I just got this symphony goin)
I envisioned a world with them both singing, and that didn’t happen.
I already know my ass is gonna be doing my eyeliner to half the fucking songs you put in here 💀
Emo
Illuminaudio is a great album and has aged really well.
Love these guys, such a big part of my teenage years
I had no clue who this band was until clicking on this video, but I enjoyed watching this.
Haha i remember when sky eats airplane came out they added me on myspace and had 2 demo songs i was blown away because it sounded fresh to me with all the synths
Illuminaudio best Chiodos record
Saw Chiodos, Coheed and Cambria, and Linkin Park in 2007. Love all three bands and it was great.
Not gonna lie Devil is fucking amazing. Ole fishlips and expensive conversions are brutal and beautiful
The Undertaker's Thirst for Revenge is Unquenchable 🔥
The music is ahead of it's time. More relevant today. The name of the band hard to remember and spell.
