  • No sooner had Manchester United been relegated than they were back again in Division One, promoted as champions. And that meant an early trip to Maine Road in the 1975-76 season to renew old acquaintances. As you'll see, Jimmy Nicholl opened the scoring in this game with a quite brilliant own goal. Time for Gerald Sinstadt.

    England saw a lot of derbies on this day. Apart from this one there was the Merseyside derby, the Birmingham derby, Arsenal v Spurs and I think the Bristol derby as well.

    Wow this is only 2 seasons after Dennis Law sent United down sadly :( Yet the quality of the pitches and tv camera's etc... looks so much better :O

      I study technology and I don't think you are right. Pretty much the same equipment being used. TV's were the same and cameras basically the same. Depends on the quality of the recording tape and whether it had been re-used. To get better TV cameras had to have brains and deal with poor light conditions better. That came later. Also the grounds had to be better lit full-stop. We also don't know what colour correction/general correction was applied when this was transferred to digital media.

    The quality of the pitch was surprisingly good for the time. I saw Dalglish's VDOs of the same period when he played for Celtic and most pitches were basically mud.

    I'm a man utd fan and that was some own goal scored by Jimmy nicholl.Jimmy nic was a great defender who gave everything.I remember in 1980 he scored a 35yard screamer into the top corner against Sweden at windsor park,amazing accuracy for a defender.man utd v man city games are special.

      @mcfcbanno 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      80%... Don't talk crap. It was the same at Old Trafford anyway, I remember a huge section of The Streford End going up when Mike Doyle scored one derby.

    • @mcfcbanno
      @mcfcbanno 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You honestly believe it was 60-40 dominance of Utd, is that serious??? City are the real Manchester club as they're the only team to play there for over 110 years. Where have you got your 95-5 figure from? Your prepubescent imagination?

    • @Wolfington

      Kinkladze blue
      United always outnumbered city when we played at Maine Road. Your piffling little club still can't sell out your ground in what are the greatest glory days you could've ever have dreamt of.

      +79dougb It's not big or clever fighting over football, but Football hooliganism is about numbers and United had more numbers , City hardly ever came down Chester road mob handed, not enough of them. And when they ever got a result they did so, because they had more Hooligans at the time. Manchester is more Red than blue, I know City fans who admit that. There is probably a bigger percentage of Local people who actually watch city at Home than United, but that is because of success on the field. For decades all City had to brag about was "Local" support, a wide pitch and big floodlights. Now they are saying it is their turn and are trying to emulate United by appealing to out of town and foreign fans. Left to their own Devices they are a run of the mill club and their success and support have proved that.
