Sorry I haven't responded sooner. That is something that I've become adamant about lately. To the point where I got the really big bottle from Amazon and it will probably last me 3 CJ7s. :) And we all know that we will probably have to take something back off sometime, just hopefully not for another decade.
I watched this guys video and then experimented with the process to get more refined in my technique: th-cam.com/video/CTMUEmQbniM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZYo55OCj_rbG6CFn
What about the clutch pedal/assembly stuff? I've got an 86 cj7, 258 automatic original. I'm looking (sorry, no model # yet) at an Isuzu 4 cyl turbo Diesel engine, with manual transmission and transfer case. But adding a clutch is the issue for me, where and what to get. Yes, of course can it fit, motor mounts, shafts, etc...? No luck finding a running 258 so I can rebuild old one.
@@coolguy_CJ7 I have an '81 258 T5 and planning to replace my clutch with the LUK kit you used. Thinking I will go ahead and just replace the flywheel while I am in there. What flywheel did you use?
You are correct in that I quoted the wrong torque spec. It should be 40ft lbs. I don’t know what FSM you’re using but between my 79 FSM and my 84-86 FSM, the number is exactly the same: 40lbs.
FSM. Only thing that I use when I can’t figure it out on my own. I mostly use it for insights that I wouldn’t know about, like marking your clutch plate and flywheel before you take it off or for torque specs.
EWWWW! a Chinese throwout bearing? Good luck. Shoulda used a 614038 Timken or a 614115 Federal Mogul.. You'll be yanking that off a few years from now. Cool vid though.
It came as part of the LUK clutch kit. I didn't know that LUK was cheap chinese parts. I thought they were German. But apparently you know more than LUK does.
Great Videos ! I would be lost without them. I've got a 1985 CJ7 frame-up, 100% everything needs attention.
Imagine how I felt when I started doing this 4 years ago with no knowledge and nothing on YT about how to do these things :) lots of trial and error.
I always anti-seize on my bolts! Really helps if you have to take something apart years down the road. Nice job!

Great vid! Will be doing mine soon.
Once again, thanks dude!
Just happy to help where I can.
Do you have the part number for the clutch fork spring? I have one but it looks larger than the one you used.
Why and how did you heat treat the bolts (4:40)?? Thank you

Where are you located? I know of 2 good 258 engines near SW Ohio.
Here’s a few videos about the pieces that you were talking about.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the 23 ft lbs for the pressure plate? My factory service manual says 100-110?

What manual did you use and where did you get it? Was it FSM?
