Hi all. Just a tip. I just did my passenger side glow plugs on my 2004 6.0 Powerstroke (later 04 model). The glow plug plastic heads were extremely brittle and broke on 3 out of 4 upon trying to use the tool that Ron uses even though it was seated all the way. Removing the tire and wheel well liner provided excellent access that allowed me to extract the broken plastic out of the glow plug well. If you run into trouble, it makes it much easier to change the glow plugs and see what you're doing. The liner on my truck was fairly simple to remove and replace (3 nuts on vacuum chamber, 6 bolts, and 3 plastic plugs)..

I got the snap-on tool. Reached through the wheel wells "tire off". I inserted the tool in the grove and lifted under the tool with a large blade screw driver. Simple. Same to remove the plugs with 3/8 ratchet and 10 deep. Easy job. New harnesses also as mine were brittle and broken. Nice job. Thanks Ron.

I only replace the failed glow plug. But I am in the desert and glow plugs are not used a lot out here. Also do not mix and match brands. The pcm looks for amp draws to verify that it is working. I've had brands pull different amounts of current and set codes. For the 7.3 I use needle nose pliers to align then a screw driver to push it on/down.

Early are a lot easier. Just pull it up. The passenger side may hit or contact the ac case if the body is too far over but bend the buss bar a little it will or should come out.

Hard side? I did and showed the hard side just so nobody could accuse me of choosing the easy one. It's even an excursion with rear air and heater. I guess I could have got a dual alternator ambulance. I don't know about cutting holes but trimming the skirt or just in bolting it helps. It comes off pretty easy.

hey Ron. I have a 2005, getting 3 codes for glow plugs. p0674, 676 and 678.... what i find interesting is there on the same side, in order. do you recommend a controller swap or change these 3 glow plugs... truck runs great, but has always had a mild rough start in the mornings or sets for long periods of time. I ran codes on it to make sure I didn't have any emission issues as there due this month and these codes popped up. truck is well maintained and has no performance mods, I keep it that way for a reason. your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Do the threads on the glow plug that go into the head need any sort or washer or sealant? I ordered new heads and will be swapping them over. I ordered a new harness already but didnt know what sealed them in the head? Is it just long threaded...ie. same idea as a spark plug?

I have a 2011 F250 with the 6.7L. Sometimes my exhaust systems starts popping and clanking and it's hotter than hell and my exhaust gases are at 600s at idle and the regeneration light is not on and my exhaust gases are normally at 300s at idle but when the exhaust gets hot and making those noises it jumps to the 600s. What's happening?I would like to talk to ya over the phone and I would send ya a check for your time just to answer a few questions.

Glow plugs aren't really needed unless it's under 50*. We would need more info to help you out. The best thing you can invest in is the scan gauge11 and program it. I have other videos showing different scenarios and what to look for.

if you take valve cover off, use a hooked pick and reach down inside cover and find the bottom of loom and pull up inside and out. WD40 everything to begin with or PB. Give it time to work before trying to pull.

Hey Ron, 2006 F350 6.0l * after my local Ford dealer service Tech ran diag, showed that #3 glow plug failed, I told Service advisor to change out all of the glow plugs while he was in there but he never passed that on to the Tech and unfortunately only#3 was installed. Two days later CEL came on showing #4 glow plug failed, (using a OBD hand tool) tried to clear but popped up after first start. (Ford has 2 year parts and labour warranty) This Shop has done me more harm than good over the years could it be possible to damage the loom or wires when he replaced #3?? I just find it odd that they didn't replace all of them in the first place and having #4 fail two days after.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

This way Takes way to long! and way more stuff to remove then it needs to be!
All you need to do is remove both inner fender wells. and it puts you right at the Glow plugs. and you are not trying to stand on your head! and busting your knuckles!
I am disappointed that Diesel Ron didn't know this.

    • @LynxStarAuto

Jesse Coslet he did. He didn't like doing it that way. Think he mentioned he hated dealing with the fender liners once due to the dirt and sand.
Honestly, I do it his way too. I hate jacking up the thing and removing the tire and fender liners.
