    First I love your no-touch harness training, very helpful. I trained my conure 3 times, with the last time it took me months for her to be fully comfortable with each and every stage…but I got there. Then after week of taking her out for 10-15 minutes, I blew it by taking her for a long walk 40 mins and after that she didn’t want the harness on her again. Wish I’d taken it slower with the amount of time she went out as she didn’t really like the harness, but I’d got her to tolerate it for a while. Moral of the story…take each stage slow even the time out with them if you have a sensitive bird like mine. I don’t have it in me to teach her again lol. All the best

      Thank you so much! And props to you for thinking about your individual birbs needs, we all learn the hard way some times, but I’m glad you gave it a shot

    thank you so much for this video! my birds are also no-touchy, dont even like head scratches 😢 they only accept my company and take me for a great chair 😁 this is very helpful, lots of videos on the topic only cover already comfortable with touch birds

    Thank you Stella! Had not found a harness training video from the experience of a pionus owner, and am glad to finally have one! Going to try this on my white capped pionus baby. Wish me luck!

    Great tips. I am currently working on desensitizing my female eclectus to the harness. She has been with me for a couple months now and still doesn’t even like a head scratch. She loves hanging out with me she just doesn’t like touches. She called to me from a tree and asked me to get her down. I searched for her owners for a while but the vet felt she was abused due to her condition and requested I stop looking. She was not only clipped WAY to short her tail feat hers were also clipped! She can recall to me on strait intentional flights but any slight deviation and she will fail. She goes everywhere with me and want her harness trained so if spooked the wind won’t take her away since her flying is so bad. I can NOT wait until she molts and grows her flight feathers and tail back!!!

      What an awesome story, I'm glad to hear you found her and is keeping her, it sounds like she is in very good hands :D
      Great thing by the vet to suggest you keep her and I really hope she gets better after the molt. Good luck!

      From the minute she hopped down from the tree onto my hand she had my heart. My mom was with me and was cautioning me that she might bite but I was like no she won’t. She’s calling to me. I had only ever had a budgie as a child. Always wanted a bigger parrot but the cost in my area kept me from getting one but somehow I just knew she wanted me and wouldn’t bite me. She has bitten a cousin who didn’t listen to me and stuck his finger in her face but she has yet to bite my husband, me or my daughters because we don’t force her to do anything. We ask and we take no for an answer. She just got the all clear from the vet after being on a healthy diet for the last couple months so she can have a LONG life here on our farm ruling the house (our dogs and cats are scared of her and she knows it haha)

      Stella, personally I would be curious to know: 1) how you behave outside when the parrot is scared of something and 2) how you behave when the parrot at home (or outside) does something that you don't want it to do, avoiding falling into the trap of the wrong positive reinforcement 😊

    Great tutorial! I spotted a cute little papillon in the background. Could you make a video about living with a pionus and a dog? I have two old little dogs myself, and I am thinking about getting a pionus. I'd love to know more about the topic before I expand the family. Ps!I like the piano❤

      They are my mom's dogs, so Charlie actually don't have much interaction with them, but I would love to try and make it work for a video in the future

      Hey Leno!
      Sorry for the late answer I didn't get notified about your comment and just noticed :(
      To keep her busy for a while I like to use pumpkin seeds or maybe a bigger piece of walnut, but sometimes a sunflower can also do the work :)

    Hi! Thanks for the video! I was wondering at what I age could I start taking my blue-headed pionus outside with The harness and train flying. She is just 6 months old and I don't know if It is two young...

    • @stellaandcharlie
      @stellaandcharlie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The younger the better in my opinion :)
      When they are young they are more receptive to new things, so it can be a more relaxing experience for them if it's at a younger age.
      Charlie started a couple of weeks after I got her home as a baby, so if yours is comfortable with he harness I'd say go for it! Just be careful of course :)

    I am worring about the largeness of the head loop. Can't the parrot takes his head out of it?

    • @stellaandcharlie
      @stellaandcharlie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not at all!
      The way it's sitting around the wings makes it so that it's pretty much in place at the lower part of the neck when tightened, but without being too tight or choking the bird in any way :)

      Thank you very much for your answer.
      I have read x-small Aviator harness is convenient for Royal Parrots. Do you think it is alright for Alisterus Amboinesis though they may weight a little more than 190 g?

    • @stellaandcharlie
      @stellaandcharlie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@parisballetcom I would look on the Aviator harness website at their size recommendation for the different species: www.aviatorharness.com/aviator-bird-harness
      If you are still in doubt I would look at the contact information and write them an email, so that you are absolutely sure :)
