Loved it great work
It looks great. You did an excellent job in restoring it and bringing it back to its original glory.
Just an FYI... I have the same chest, and the lock and seal on this chest has a recall for kids hiding in the chest and not surviving. I'm pretty sure you can actually still get the updated and safe Lane lock for this chest from the recall.
Nice my Grandparents had one just like this one. Great memories. Thank you
I actually have this exact chest with all the tags inside bottom of the lid. About the same looks inside but perfect inside. Thanks I wasn’t sure what to do to restore. It belonged to my Mother who passed away. She said she’d had since new, was almost 90
I’m glad you for the video useful. I started with 220 grit sandpaper and just slowly sanded it. The veneer is thicker then veneers of today so I felt comfortable using an electric sander on it. If you have any other questions let me know.
Dangerous lock like old refrigerators and freezers....a child can't get out! Recalled item.
We had one too!
I have this chest right now it needs to be refinished. It was my grandmothers it’s missing the tray inside but overall still functional.
That turned out great!
Beautiful,thank you
Beautiful!
Wow I love it!!
Could use more explanation/products used....
Looks great
She’s a beauty!
That turned out pretty dope.
Great job. I loved watching you do something that I apparently couldn’t do.
Thank you!!
Beautiful
Did you stain it, and if you did, what color and brand? I loved the video.
how much could refinished chest like that cost
aproximately
Beautiful. I just subscribed.
Thank you!!
I have nearly the same chest. Front design is slightly different. My grandmother's legacy to me.
It's a nice job you did. You could've probably used restoreafinish though.
My mom has the same chest from my grandparents. Lol
What grit sandpaper did you use initially?
220 on the entire thing. Did not want to use a lower grit and sand through the veneer
Did you do anything to the inside? Beautiful job.
I didn’t have to. It was virtually untouched, had a little dirt in it that I cleaned out but other then that it was very clean.
I would have used a little finishing butter and/or cedar oil to refresh the interior’s wood.
I recently was given one from 1950. Sanded the inside with ultra fine grit and wiped it down with a slightly damp cloth. The cedar scent got much stronger than it was.
What grit of sandpaper did you use?
I used 220 on the entire thing. I did not want to put any deep scratches in the veneer with lower grit sandpaper
I have a 1947 Lane chest and i would loe to know if there isa way to possibly scuff the interior to bring back the cedar smell ?
I’m not sure but that’s worth a try. Get at least a 220 grit sanding sponge and sand with the grain.
I just purchased one for my son and it needs some refinishing. As I'm not as adept with sanding could I just use paint stripper to strip the finish, barely sand, and then refinish?
Yes, in fact it may be better to strip than sand so you don't sand through the veneer.
What stain color did you use?????
I believe it was red chestnut from minwax
@@beerdedwoodworker Thanks! You did a great job!!!!
Dangerous chest. It locks when closed. If a child gets inside they can't get out ....simular to old refrigerators and freezers.
Contact Lane for a replacement lock mechanism. Recalled item.
I wish you had spoken more and told us what you’re doing, as well as less time lapse stuff. I have a cedar chest like this that needs restoration but I am sorry I haven’t learned anything here. I’ll look for another channel.
I’m going to continue watching this guy but I watch Flipping drawers. Chester. Dashner design. Among others. I think I have close to 20. Lol
Beautiful
Thank you!!
